I thought it might be fun to pick a graphics engine from another game (non Nintendo) this gen on the PC, 360, or PS3 for each Nintendo series. I mean if you had to pick one, what game would you want Zelda, Mario, Metroid, ect to look like on the WiiU?

Zelda - The Witcher 2

Mario - Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (unless the WiiU can run the Heaven tech demo :P)

Metroid - Metro 2033

I think each of these are very beautiful games with great sty1es that fit the series I attached them to. What about you guys?

Zelda - Wind Waker. Wont happen, and if it does, it'll be for 3DS, but damn. Wind Waker is still one of the best looking games ever. I'd love to see that style again.

Mario - Like it has been in the past, except better. Realism has no place in a Mario.

Metroid - I'd love to see how a Cryengine Metroid would look like.

Did you just ignore my post? :P

lol, is there any PC, 360, PS3 game that you can think of for Zelda and Mario? I respect your opinion though, I was just thinking of visuals we know it will be able to produce, since it will be at least as powerful as 360 and PS3. I think Nuts and BOlts is beautiful and sort of has that Galaxy look. As for this gen having a Wind Waker looking game...I dont think any game looks like Wind Waker :P. I wonder how much visuals like WW would benefit from more powerful tech. I can't picture what it would like.

Oh sh*t sorry. I basically never post without reading, but now I did and look what happened. :P

Hmm. Then I would agree, Witcher 2 for Zelda. But Mario? No idea. I don't think any 360/PC/PS3 game has a visual stile (obviously misspelled because of weirdspot) I think would fit for Mario. At least not that I can think of. Kameo perhaps?

Haha no problem. Not nuts and Bolts?

Or better yet, the DX 11 Heaven tech demo on PC :P

Heaven would work for either mario or Zelda as it looks somewhat cartoony :P. I don't know if any of the consoles next gen will be able to run games like this though.

i could honestly not pick a non zelda game and say "i want the next zelda to look like that" because the graphics in the zelda games are at their best when they tie into the gameplay.

i do think that fire emblem is in need of a visual update (and a new gameplay tweak, but thats another thread). the shogun 2 engine is sturdy enough to support plenty of different types of npc's on a map and give a tactical view. id have to imagine that it would allow them to do all the animations without breaking to a battle screen. eliminating sprites would be a bonus too.

I know what you mean about Zelda, but I do think The Witcher 2 is a pretty good pick for a realisticish (OoT, MM, TP) Zelda. It is beautiful and has that immersive realistic feel, while being a bit exaggerated and heavily saturated. I thought the WiiU tech demo of Zelda was nice, but Link looked pretty awful in it.

i didnt like the tech demo from an artistic standpoint either. there were some really nice effects (moreso the point of the tech demo), but link looked too plastic-like.

in terms of technical feats, i have a lot of respect for what red dead redemption pulled off. the big thing was that there werent any loading screens in that huge world to explore. id really like to wander into a dungeon from the overworld or browse a shop with no loading or camera cuts. besides that, rdr had really good weather effects and a nice gradual transition from day to night. i could see those things potnetially translating to a zelda game.

Definitely! Those are all great points. THey seem like small things, but they add up to make a big difference in the experience.

What? Yeah, and Skyward Sword was the first game to fully utilize Motion controls in a meaningful way, and the PS3 and 360 are stuck using 1997 controllers. And games like LBP/2 and Rayman Origins using the sidescrolling mechanism of gameplay, they must be stuck in the past to right? Not to mention, evry driving game in existence has been the same. press a button to accelerate, turn with the analog. Dumbass. I guess MGS has stayed the same simce the PS1, same with GT.

You're probably just one of those dumbass gamers who see HD graphics and, "ZOMG INNOVATION" even if the game is exactly what you played 15 years ago, just with a new coat of paint.

Atleast think before you post. Anyway, you're not even supposed to be here.

People just don't read these days... :?

Art style wise, what was shown in the Zelda tech demo looks great...if they can get anything close to that "look" it would be awesome. As for Mario, Galaxy looks pretty awesome already - it tends to be cartoony (not cell shaded cartoony)...so dunno.

I would prefer Zelda be more colorful and vibrant. Mario, I'm sure will look the same as it always has. Metroid, I think the worlds of Mass Effect are comparable to those in the Prime trilogy in terms of art design. I'd like Kirby to go back to the yarn style, if only for one more game.

the witcher 2 engine is, in a lot of ways, ideal for zelda. not just from a graphics standpoint but also from a resource management standpoint. its much much better than nintys engine when it comes to loading for example. in zelda now there are loading bits when going from indoors to outdoors and when going into dungeons (the whole door opening thing where the screen doesnt go black is not loading..thats just an old zelda tradition). these can be quite frequesnt. the witcher 2 engine is designed to remove these problems. itll be interesting to see if that remains true on the 360 but on the PC i can go from outdoors into a pub, back out and into a dungeon without seeing one loading screen. witcher 2 is also very pretty. but in terms of art style id like to see a real attempt at making zelda concept art come to life. like the concept art for SS or TP. make it look like a moving drawing..as if its been hand drawn at 30 or 60 FPS.

Hmmm....I don't think the Witcher 2 Art style would mix well with zelda. Like how the characters look wouldn't seem right to put in a zelda game. The buildings and scenery look incredible in Witcher 2 but I think zelda deserves a more cartoony style over the uberly realistic style.

I hear ya in that regard. I mean TW2 is very colorful and I think it is close to being good for a good Zelda visual, but a bit too realistic maybe in terms of characters and their expressions and such. Hmm, its hard to say really. I think the Heaven tech demo (screenshot in this thread earlier) would be a good fit, although maybe better for Mario.

1- this is not system wars. the rules of SW (including the lingo) do not apply here. 2- you don't have to idolize nintendo and praise everything they do to talk about them. this isn't "ninty fanboy forum", this is the wii board. he is talking about the wii. you should really give system wars a break, it's getting the best of you.

i would call him more of an acquaintance since i only ever talk to him through the main boards, but that doesn't really mean anything. you're acting as if he's "not worthy" of posting on the wii board because he's "not sheep enough". he has all the right to enjoy and to dislike nintendo and to voice his opinion here, positive or not, and you're free to show him why he's wrong, but keep the personal accusations and the "you're not worthy" talk to a minimum.

I like being random, so i would say...
Zelda with animal crossing, Metroid with okami, Mario with kingdom hearts stile.
Of course they wouldnt be natural in these art stiles, but its nice to think of the possibilities.
Whats with stile being forbidden ?

I made a thread a couple years ago saying metroid with an Okami art ****would be amazing and everyone thought I was crazy. A zelda game with an animal crossing art ****would be extremely weird, but I could dig it. I also want to see a Zelda in a steampunk world that could be pretty cool and something new for the series which would be a more realistic approach, Final Fantasy XIII like. Mario I'm not really sure what they could do for it. I think they could make the art ****like B&K Nutz and bolts becuase that was a beautiful game; however, I also hated the gameplay.

I'm sure the games they have planned will look great in HD I don't really have any ideas because a lot of their games have unique art directions and graphical presentations for me to think of a graphics engine from another game and another console, After Metroid: Other M, Skyward Sword and the Galaxy duology I am more than content with games looking like that in the future

With that said, the guy who said he wanted to see Metroid w/ CryEngine 3...man that would look nice

Definitely, though I think the PC graphics of Metro 2033 look so great for a game like MEtroid. When playing the demo (have the game, but have not played it yet) I was just thinking, "man these graphics would be amazing for Metroid!"

I like being random, so i would say...
Zelda with animal crossing, Metroid with okami, Mario with kingdom hearts stile.
Of course they wouldnt be natural in these art stiles, but its nice to think of the possibilities.
Whats with stile being forbidden ?

Okami art type for metroid? That sounds like it would be awesome! Hard to imagine what it would look like but I love okami's art type That would be sweet! I think that zelda could possibly work with a okami art type

I had to keep saying type because supposedly the correct word for it is a forbidden word :P oh well

While I don't think the Okami design would fit Metroid, I am intrigued by the idea of cell shaded visuals in a Metroid game. Animal Crossing ****would be interesting for some sort of quirky take on the 4 player co op from 4 Swords.
