My family and I have some friends (a Mother and a Son) that has recently come upon hard times. She has recently been divorced from her husband because of infidelity, and he doesn't want to have anything to do with not only her, but her son as well. Subsequently she has lost all of her income and is looking for a job. She and her son who is 12 years old are suffering financialy and emotionaly. This Easter, we invited them to our house for an Easter party and we all gathered around to play the Wii. It was a hit of course, and the 12 year old boy absolutely fell in love with it, and said he'd been wanting to play one for a long time. While we were sittng around playing his mother turned to me and asked, "how much are these and how can I find one"? Not thinking about their fanancial trouble I told her "it's only 250 bucks but good luck finding one". Later I realized that $250 is quite alot for them right now and I regreted what I had said. After they left I asked my family what they thought about all going in together and buying them a Wii, and they were overwhelmingly excited by the idea.  So we decided as a good gesture that we truly wanted to buy the son one. My question to you, my fellow gamespotters, is how can I find one at this point? I bought one at launch, so obviously haven't been keeping track of store deliveries as many of you probably have, so any advice is completely welcome. If you could see how much joy this young man was having while playing, even in this time of sorrow, you would see how much fun this somewhat trivial piece of equipment could bring to his and his mother's life.

Thanks for the help.

I'm not going to tell him to chill. Going through a divorce myself, I can tell you it is heartbreaking. Especially if the father doesn't want to have anything to do with you, and you're scraping for money.

I personally would guide that kid to a counceller, being kicked out of my dads house myself and being pretty much disowned but him I will say that a counceller will have by far a MUCH greater effect on the kid than a stupid wii.
I'm not a wii basher, but come on, a piece of hardware isn't going to patch a kids life up like nothing happenned.
Sure, video games did help me in a tiny way when it came to my dad, but it made me do nothing but nope around and get fat. Over the last 3 years I shaped up though so im not fat anymore, but still, back to the point. Its almost.....saddening in a way that kids these days can find comfort in something so insignificant in the big picture when it comes to the separation of parents and such heartbreak as that.
Anyways, if you're still set on buying the kid a piece of hardware to replace a parent, check out ebay or something. I'm not sure on where to buy one these days. But hey, instead of buying him one and helping him become a social outcast, why don't you be a friend and invite him over lots to play multiplayer games on your wii. I'm pretty sure this kid need a friend way more than he needs a wii, considering how much time it would consume. But hey, kudos to you for being such a cool friend. Your family sounds pretty cool for doing that for someone.

Good luck on finding one anyways, you'll probably need some luck finding one nowadays

A Wii won't solve all problems, but it's still something that will make him feel better. I think getting him one is a wonderful idea.

As for how to get it, I think you need to call every single store around you that sells video game consoles and ask them when their shipment is coming in. If you don't get answers, call again the next day. Desperate times call for desparate measures.

Good luck on your quest.

Are you a social outcast? Don't worry, we'll invite them over any chance we get. We want to do it as a good gesture, to let them know that there are people there for them, less to help a boy become a social recluse, but more to give them a boost of happiness and hope and let them know that human comradery is still in existance. If she would except money, we would give it, and the boy doesn't need a counselor, just some friends and help from his neighbors. Why is a shrink an answer for everything these days? Why can't you just do something nice for someone?

I don't mean to be callouse. But this is neither the forum/website, or good one at that to find help with problems like these. On the subject of getting a Wii though forget retailers, online buying is the best option at this point.i.e. Ebay or or Amazon.

Have you tried writing to charities like Red Cross and Cheap Ass Gamer?  They have departments specialized in providing discounted systems to families that need a break from reality.  Not to sound mean, but being 11 and knowing the meaning of being disowned by the man who fathered you is something that will scar a child.  The very least we can do is show him that Mario will always come to the rescue even in the most dire situation.  Thanks for writing.

I should be able to find help here. You should be able to find help anywhere. It's called humanity. I'm not trying to be smart, i'm just saying I don't mind helping anyone if I can, even with some of the mundane questions you usually get on these forums.

Thanks. Hopefully I won't have to go that far. LOL. I hope with the help of some of my fellow gamespotters I can figure it out for myself.

The wii is in incredible increasing demand. It's hard to find for everyone. Now certain stores will have the wii for sale on advertised days. Walmart stores often will sell the wii on a certain at a time time with the time/date being posted.

When one store chain sells the wii on that advertsied day other chains will also have it for sale that day. Best Buy/Targets/ Walmarts even Gamestops will have the wii for sale.

They will build up the stock for a week or two then sale. Usually in a large city this means tens of thousands of wiis will be on sale. Of course they will be all sold out prior to the stores opening.

If you become aware of a store date consider driving out to a small town nearby or even to another state with the same chain repeat all walmarts will sell their wiis on that advertised date. Then camp out three to four hours before opening.

If you think the wii is in short supply you need to learn about the DS in Japan. For well over a year every weekly DS shipment sells out within hours with lines out to several blocks. DSs are still being sold more for used then brand new and this is with the importing of huge numbers of DSs meant for the American and Europe markets.

Only online wiis you can get are bundles. Consider a bundle heck you were going to spend that amount of money any way for a wii and the additional stuff such as games anyway.

Kudos to you man, i cant beleive people are critisizing (i hope ur being honest bout all this). I think you are doing a GREAT thing... anyways back to your question, i think online stores are best if you dont mind shipping costs. I know this may kindof defeat the purpose, but why not try getting him something that will be cheaper in the long run like a ds or something. I mean its as fun as the wii and the games are cheaper, plus its easier to find and he can can take it around. Kids that age adore portable systems and play it all over the place.... thats just my 2 cents, but congrats and good luck.

I didn't mean to 'flame', I was just speaking out of personal experience. Of course, my scenerio was a little different (being kicked out of my dads house) it can be related to this.
When i moved here, my mom gave me money to mainly go out and buy video games. I bought them, was happy for a little bit, but still felt empty inside. It took a little bit of councelling but that fixed it. I'm sorry if I came off as a flamer, but speaking from a point in which something similar has happened to me, I now would rather have the choice of getting a counceller first than to get video games. I got absorbed in them and really kept all my issues inside and it slowly ate away at me.
Anyways, if I find a way to get a wii (or one for sale) I'll post a link to the site where i found my findings and let you examine it for yourself.

You should look at Costco, Sam's Club, EBgames, Target, Gamestop, Walmart or just give yours to him.

well i first thought it sounded like some cheap scam. which it does. and if its not, then there are many things besides a wii that would help them out. if you wanna help them out, offer to buy their groceries for a month, not to give them a 250 dollar system that requires an extra 50 bucks for every game you wanna get
