Here's something I just thought of after watching an infomercial on the Ipad. The odds are high after Iwata making his comment about the next gameboy (hey, a guy can hope) that it may well be just as powerful as something like that. So I would think that if Nintendo were to make a pokemon MMO with the same graphical style as the ds games (just being much more detailed and the environment being brought to a bigger scale), an MMO would be perfectly feasable to be pulled off on a system like that. Including each of the continents so far, possiblywhatever is introduced in this upcoming version as well, and having perhaps a thousand or more people playing on a server with each continent accessible I'm thinking they would have an absolute gold mine in that. I can't say if they'd charge a monthly fee but I know I'd pay it. Sure I want an MMO pokemon that reminds me of Oblivion but I also think it would be great to experience an MMO with a pokemon game much like the ones I enjoyedfrom my childhood (red/blue) all the way to present day (pearl/diamond).

Few things I'd want. Gyms run by real people, perhaps on a special server. Battles still being 2d but the pokemon fully animated. Hoping for a sensitivemicrophone on the handheld to have actual conversations. To be able to trade anywhere, at least after obtaining a key item. With permission, beingable to join someone mid-battle.

Feel free to post some things you think would benefit a pokemon MMO like this.

i like the idea of being able to travel to every continent but if there was a monthly fee i wouldnt pay it and i dont think this is likely to happen anyway...... what they should do though is take that multiple continent idea and put it in this awesome game on the ds that would be EPIC and it could be called pokemon BLACK cuz blacks a epic color

Yeah, i would much sooner just see the usual 1 player pokemon game but containing better Wi-Fi features and based on all of the continents. I dont really think pokemon would work to well as an MMO.

But then again, i could be wrong.

I've had an idea for a Pokemon MMO too. But for the computer.

Make the UI and graphics pretty much like World of Warcraft's. Doesn't need crazy graphics, so people with low end PC's could play.

You play as a trainer, you can design him/her and everything. You would be able to go to every Pokemon region from the handheld games.

You fight with your Pokemon, and have talent points for different stuff, just like WoW. You can only have one Pokemon out at a time though, and could have 6 on you at a time, but cannot switch your Pokemon in combat.

Certain Pokemon with higher defense would act as tanks, then DPS Pokemon, and then healers.

Basically, it would be World of Warcraft in the Pokemon universe.

one idea is the concept of having batles over wild pokemon. The rarity of the pokemon could be determined just like the rarity of the cards in TCG, with weaker pokemon being more common.

It would definitely be an awesome idea, especially if it's made for the DS. If it's ever made, the DS and the Pokemon franchise would go to a whole new level, if the game goes well.

I'll keep dreaming!

It wouldn't work, because if you wanted it to be on a handheld, you'd have to deal with people using action replay, cheats, etc. Therefore if it were to happen, a Pokemon MMO would have to be on a console like the PS3/Wii/X Box 360, or even a PC.

It could work, in theory, but I don't see it happening. The business reason pokemon works is because there are always at least 2 versions of the game, then as soon as you finish that version, a new one comes out with enhanced features. A single game that combines everything together would kill the series as we know it.

If there was some multiplayer instances, and an option to battle people anyway you wished (without friend codes) and at least 2 versions of the game, that might work out better and actually be pretty good.

Yea, I looked into that abouta year ago but never had a chance to try it out. I might have to if it's actually fairly good. I still think my idea would work and even though it would destroy the series as we know it, that fact wouldn't be enough to stop Nintendo from releasing more games along the lines of the originals. In that regard, you could say those abominous Colosseum and Gale of Darkness games were enough to destroy the series as we know it, but of course that wasn't the scenario. Btw, I like the idea of battling for rare pokemon, but I think they would still do random fights. I just imagine what the other players would see to be your sprite standing there with the pokemon they are battling appearing in front of them. The player sends out their pokemon and you see as much battleanimation on the roaming screen as Nintendo decides to implement, but that's just my guess.

Another point I would like to reiterate is that this idea is not for the DS but Nintendo's next handheld generation. That should be more than powerful enough to run a 1000 person server MMO in the graphical style of the old gamesand with Nintendo having methods of stopping those damn action replay users (based onwhat Iwata himself exemplified).

There's been some good ideas here. Keep 'em coming.

Btw, has anyone else been having this problem with the gamespot servers taking spaces out of some of their words in their posts? It's getting kinda annoying.

I have actually mentioned this to my siblings before, how I wish there was a Pokemon MMO. Though I was looking more at 'never going to happen virtual reality game'.

I think it would be exciting if you could make it like lots of 3D MMORPGs out there.

Give a wider variety of Pokemon to start off with so you don't have a jillion people with Pikachus, Bulbasaurs, and Squirtles. You could make it so you can actually see Pokemon instead of having 'RANDOM BATTLES', though the rarity of the Pokemon would be a little higher so you don't see like a billion Pokemon everywhere.
And similar to the HG/SS games you could pick ANY one of your Pokemon to follow you around. [I'm actually just saying this because I love Poochyena's and would love to be able to have at least a 3D one follow me around]. And you could even ride Pokemon like Rapidash over land, and Blastoise over water!
You could talk to NPCs and have battles with them...better to have it in real time if it's an MMO, and more thrilling than turn-based.
I'd love to see OUTSTANDING characterization as well. And you could buy more clothing items with money you get from battles with NPCs or 'quests' you do with other characters. Cause no MMORPG is complete without quests.
Speaking of quests, it'd be cool to be able to win things like Pokemon eggs, items, and other stuff from them.

/endhopelessdreamrant

I could go on and on with things I would LOVE for a Pokemon MMO to be like, but I think I've already said enough XD Plus I doubt any of this could actually happen. >>

SO many things that could be done.
I'd like to see battles in real time, personally.

Each individual move could be set to a certain directioN + button sort of like Super Smash Brothers.
Moves like agility wouldn't be CRAP but would actually make you MOVE FASTER.
Or moves like double team would actually create fake pokemon on the screen!
That would be BEYOND awesome.

Or venturing into dungeons, fighting wild pokemon and trainers to level up and then a super rare MVP pokemon (e,g, Blastoise, Charizard, etc) in the dungeons you can all throw balls at.

Or do mega big quests in order to do battle against beasts like Zapdos or Entei. Of course, the rate of them being captured being super low.

Idk.. I dream about this all the time haha.

Agility isn't crap. You just don't use it properly. Guaranteeing that you'll move first can be deadly. It's the whole comcept behind Trick Room and why Scizor's so commonly used (priority always goes first). Also, for goodness sake, don't change the formula. The current formula allows for strategy, rather than good physical dexterity to make a win. Also @ the whole idea, it's honestly kind of weird to me. I just would find it weird if someone else is in the game while you are. Maybe I'm nostalgic, but I don't want people stealing my Pokemon in battle (obviously going to happen, it's like Kill Stealing in many MMOs) or people spamming up my window. I do like MMOs myself, I just don't really feel Pokemon mixes well with them.

I think I played a game once where nobody could see the monsters that you could see so they couldn't killsteal. But that's no fun.

This wouldn't be bad on Wii (could use WiiSpeak for choosing Pokemon and talking to other trainers), but the online would have to be very solid. Odds are that it would be pretty laggy...
