After I found out that Resident Evil 4 and Umbrella Chronicles will be released on Wii I'm compelled to buy the console. This will be the first Nintendo console I will ever own (have had the ps1, ps2, xbox, and currently the xbox360 consoles). The fact that I am a big rpg fan, tough never had I played the Zelda games is a additional factor that attracts me to Nintendo Wii.

If the games mentioned above are the first reason I want to have a Wii then the second and more important reason is simply that I want to get my girlfriend more involved in my great hobby. Currently she rarely plays with me because the games I have for my 360 dont fit her  taste (the only games she plays are Dead or Alive and Guitar hero 2).

The only thing that holds me back from buing the console is that I'm sceptical about how fun it is to play with its controll scheme. I know that it's kind of ground breaking, but am wondering if its worth to get a console that has outdated graphics just so I could controll the game in a more interactive way. I also wonder if this controll inteactivity is fun in the long run, thus worth of sacrificing the pleasure of better graphics for more controll in games.

I also should mention that I like to have good graphics in games, and have grown into the standart that my x360 games provide. But since I bought the Guitar Hero 2 (which is the only game I play since its release date by the way) I realised that gameplay is way more important than I ever thought.

Also I dont know if the kind of games that are on Wii interest me. I dont like mario games and am not a big fan of sports games (atleast when playing with the old school controlls).

So what do you guys think? Should or shouldn't I buy the Wii? Especially You who own multiple different consoles, how do you compare your Wii to ohter consoles? I just dont want to have my Wii collecting dust after a couple of months.

PS: Sorry for making this post so long, and I appreciate the time you have spent on reading it and giving me your opinion.

EDIT: I'm a middle class working citizen, and even tough I could afford buying a second console, I'm afraid that it will be a waste of money that could be used for other things.

I think the Wii will continue to push out good games. The fact that with the Wii you can play all the GC games also is very nice. GC has some good RPG games and you can bet the Wii will have some as well. I was a little leary on the Wiimote at first but after getting my Wii and playing the games it is like second nature to me. So in a nutshell it would be a good things to pick up and your GF will prob get into it as well.

She's like Jill Valentine or Rebecca Chambers or even Claire Redfield.

It's a well known fact that women are naturally good zombie killers.

Yes, buy one.  Unless of course you can con some one into buying one for you.  i love mine.  I concider myself a PC gamer, but i love my Wii.  The control is exceptional.  i am truely amazed at how well it works.  all of my gamer friends are hooked on it as well.  they cant wait to get one, but they are still hard to find around here.  i have seen them in a store once.  ever.  my aunt werks at a wal*mart and people still line up hours before they open on days Wiis come in.  as to the graphics...  no, they are not as good as high end PC graphics or even the other newer consoles.  but they are really good.  dont let screenshots fool you, they look much better.  especially games designed for the Wii (Sonic for instance).  all of the games with poor graphics are due to porting from inferior systems (PS2, GC).  I was ready to call it quits on console gaming after the last gen.  my old machines have been sitting in the closet for nearly a year.  but the Wii has revitalized my interest in them.  it is something DIFFERENT!!!  a truely unique experience that pulls you into the game like nothing else.  it makes games accessible to about anybody, but keeps it fun.  the games like Wii Sports and WarioWare will appeal to anyone, while games like Sonic or the FPS games will keep "gamers" happy.  FPS are great on the Wii.  As a PC gamer, i couldnt enjoy the limitations of FPS games on consoles due to the awkward dual stick controls.  Now i can enjoy them on a console.

Well, i guess a long question deserved a long answer.  a huge spider just crawled across my keyboard.  im going to catch it, stick it in the microwave, and let it bite me.  maybe i will turn into spiderman?

Dang, I didn't even know that GC games can be played on Wii :D Can they be played with the Wiimote?

Yes I do realise that's the Wii forum. Therefore I ask here so I can get opinion from actual Wii-owners that have some experience with the console. If I would post on system Wars it would probably turn out into a discussion of which system is best.

All I expect from the Wii owners is a sincere opinion if they are satysfied with their Wii even tough they own other consoles too.

Well, coming from a person who owns both a Wii and an Xbox 360, I say yes, you should definitely get a Wii. You can have the best of both worlds, might as well take advantage of it. On the 360 you have great graphics and killer online play. On the Wii you get innovative gameplay and way more immersing games, with games like the upcoming two RE titles. Using the pointer to aim in games feels oh so good, should be awesome in Umbrella Chronicles. Go for it.

You may even find current titles out right now really fun, like Godfather. I never played the other versions, but being able to gesture the controllers like your strangling someone, throwing them off a bridge, or beating them with a bat makes the Wii version so much more appealing. Screw graphics when you can do things like that!

Thanx for your insights. I am too a pc gamer although I dont have a high end pc so the games doesnt look that great on my pc. Mostly I play Neverwinter Nights 2 and Baldurs Gate 2 at work, but some RTS games too. Another thing that concernes me with the console is  that there's not such a big game library for mature gamers, except for the  coming RE and Manhunt 2. And considering Fps games, I do enjoy playing them with my xbox360 controller therefore if a multiplatform Fps comes out I probably would buy it on xbox360 instead for the enchanted graphics.

If you're not a mario fan you're just not a real gamer IMO :( ;) So I'm going to have to say no, don't get it. I have a 360, PC, Wii, and a ton of other consoles myself, and it has it's own special place in my collection. It's never going to be turned off once smash is released, either. The controls rock, the price is right, and it's the most innovative console to date. But I just don't know if there will be enough of the games you like to keep your interest.

I'll tell you the same thing I'd tell anyone of my friends if they asked. If you have patience, buy one. If not, wait. Finding one now is going to be tough, and its going to probably frustrate you, and then when you get it, what do you have to play? A handful of good games, but not much. I love my Wii, and I got it at launch. But there are certain people who can handle it and some who can't. I was on board for the gamecube so I understand how launches are and I've dealt with the droughts before. My opinion is, if you can find one, buy it. But if you bust your butt trying to find one for months and then only have Zelda and SPM and a few other games to play, you may not feel like what you got meets the effort you put into it. I think you might be disappointed. However, I'm confident that come Nov this year the Wii will have a pretty good library starting and a few AAA titles.

Ermm yes you should but i would make sure you have enough cash to get a few games because some of the games out now are a bit, lets say shallow.  Excite truck and Wario Smooth moves for example are great games but there longevity is not very good.  Then again I would say one thing when you buy any console after launch, try to get a bundle to save some cash :).

The Wii is escellent for a fresh way to control games.  Non-gamers really seem to love the control scheme because it is easier to use than the dual analog sticks.

Considering getting hold of a Wii is not a big deal since I'm not in a hurry. I was planning of getting one in 2 or 3 months. Besides I have a friend working at Ebgames that could supply me with one. Until then theres lots of games I'm waiting to be released (C&C Tiberium Wars, Forza 2, Mass Effect, The Darkness, Twho Worlds). As long as I have a Wii when RE 4 is being released then I'm happy

YES! there alot of very good games out right now and there WILL be even better ones that are comming out later. if you are concerned about graphics, then you should know that the graphics will get better because most of the games out now arent using the power of the wii to the fullest. once you start playing, you will forget about graphics and realize that gameplay is very important also
