[QUOTE="PS3Compass"]Hasn't Sega already been bought out by a company called 'Sammy'? Cyber-

aye they have. however last i heard, sammy is hemmoraging money. so a sega sale wouldnt be complty impossible.

anywho no for 2 reasons.

1) a merger is a bad idea as it would mean that high end sega execs would gain power at ninty. a complete buyout would be better.

2) sega owns the creative assembly, the best strategy developer in the world. it would be a terrible tragedy to see the total war series go to pot. the series is one of those that actually uses the advancement of technology to better the gameplay. i dont mean to bash the wii here (i love it to bits) but, frankly, the console just wouldnt be able to do the series any justice at all. it just doesent have the grunt to pull it off (no console does). high powered PCs are essential for it. the chances of nintendo pubishing anything on the PC are slim to nill.

they would probabaly retain that PC status if nintendo bought Sega.

very unlikely. nintendo is a very stuborn company....as long as they have a console or handheld, they will never ever release anything or support anything that is not a nintendo platform. if ninty were to go 3rd party (fat chance) then total war wouldnt be affected. but thats not going to happen for a very long time, if ever. the CA wouldnt have a say in the matter. the staff could jump ship but the IP would remain the property of nintendo.

however if the total war series wasnt a factor, then i think it could lead to great things. lets not forget fzero-GX here. the best fzero in the series and an absolutely stonkingly good racer. published and funded by nintendo, but GX was developed by sega. theres clearly talent and passion in sega....its jsut seems to be a badly run company. a take over by ninty could mean far better management of sega and, since ninty would be at the helm, they would be in control of giving a project the green light and giving it to the right people. if a sonic game is not up to mustard then ninty can just cancel it. theyve done it before with many of their own projects. a merger would lead to a "lowest common denominator" type situation but a take over would mean that sega could be whipped into shape again.

Think about all the dormant Sega frachises Nintendo could bring back and revitalise....... They already brought Kid Icarus back from the 80s, think of what could happen to ALEX Kidd. Alex Kidd won't probably ever come back but I had to mention one wild possibility.

It would only take ONE good Sonic title to regain my respect for SEGA.

Someone at Sonic Team needs to realize that Sonic in a 3D environment isn't working. Mario 64 works in 3D because Mario is slower and can climb, swim, and do backflips for high to reach places. Sonic runs fast, resulting in bumping into every wall in a blur of 3D, poorly designed levels.

Sonic Team needs to take a risk and create a new game based on older games like Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, and Sonic CD.

New Super Mario Bros. DS sold so well because people love nostalgia. Mix that with updated 3D-2D graphics and game play and Sonic might sell a few copies, for a change.

nintendo has let some games be on the pc very early on. it could also be in the contract of buying sega that they must retain a certain status with certain series.

Nintendo owning the rights to another iconic character as well as all rights and operations of Sammy, an arcade company?

Sounds like a winner.

Woudln't mind it all, in fact it seems like a good idea. THough it benefits nintendo more, i don't see it likely to occur.

Cyber-

has it? i dont mean to sound rude (im curious now) but have u got a link or title name? and im assuming were talking legally on PC. i know there were some ninty IPs that were allowed to be developed and published on a philips platform or something like that. but it wasnt a PC. money was exchanged between philips and ninty.

i also doubt that ninty would ever agree to such a term. ninty would want an IP like total war to be on the wii exclusively. every game in the series has sold well over a million worldwide.

heres one and there were more mario games that came on the PC mostly educational.

Not to mention that Sega could sign a contract making them retain its PC status, also Nintendo is not as stubborn enough to jepordize a big franchise.

it would be very smart of sega to give nintendo sonic and other characters because sonic made by nintendo would be like almost as good as mario and zelda, i think that would be a great idea

Dude, Nintendo would make a smart move merging, what has SEGA done in it's past? well, it's made the first console based MMORPG, AND made many arcade games AND made Sonic, Dinosaur King, NiGHTS, etc. besides, you guys are too late, have you noticed what has been happening? how many more games have been made for Nintendo than any other console company. in 5 years, ninty and SEGA will have merged.

------------------------------------------------

Nintendo is (mostly) my life. I will play anything Nintendo. have NES, 64, GC, GBA, Wii, DS. have played SNES, GBC.

Sega sucks by itself (except for some games) and Nintendo is like my life, so if they join together, that might turn out good, coz I liked Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games so maybe it might be good.

Hypothetically it would be great, as SEGA could fill in the holes of some genres Nintendo lacks. Also SEGA would be able to put more concentration in making titles good and with Nintendo's managment games would probably be held back if they didn't make it up to standard.

I don't think Nintendo would go for it though, SEGA's too big. Nintendo has said they are only interested in purchasing small development teams. Though that was quite sometime ago.

Sega should not "merge" they should be bought out.

I like putting stuff in bullet form so here we go...

1.) Sega still makes good games even if the Sonic games aren't that great.

2.) "Sammy" the company that owns Sega aren't in the best financial situation, a Sega sell is viable.

3.) Nintendo, arguably the greatest first party devs, could reinvent so many series. Hell, look how good Sonic handled in SSBB.

But if Sega got bought out, would some of their franchises suffer? They might... I'll conclude that a Nintendo buyout would only benefit Sega.

Sega has been making more money off Nintendo/Sega releases than any other game on any other console. It would be a good investment, and Nintendo is a financially stable company. It would be a good move for both.

I want to make one more point. A lot of people in this thread keep talking about the Wii.

If this buyout ever happened it would not affect the Wii, it would affect the next system. So all these arguments about Sega's games requiring next-gen hardware, is nonsense. The next system has been confirmed to be an hd ready system, so Sega will have those resources.

I personally don't want to see Sega merge with Nintendo. Yes Nintendo makes great games and Sega used to make great games, but I think Sega just needs to start taking their time with their games. I think they are trying to be more like EA where they just want to get out as many games as possible. Instead of making two sonic games a year, they should put both of those teams together and make one sonic game every two to three years. Sega can start to return my trust if they give me Shenmue III and take their time with it.
