I think the DS will stay put until the next generation of consoles come out. It's still fairly new and companies are just beginning to hit the peak of their potential for DS games. It'll be around for awhile I imagine but they'll probably offer new colours, probably not a redesign but it's not impossible.
A successor system has yet to even be announced. It would be at least another year ~ year and half following such an announcement before the system was actually launched.
So unless they announced one in these last few months of 08, it'll be a few years.
It's going to be out on the market for a few more years. It's still getting high sales, Nintendo would be stupid to release an entirely new handheld in the next year or so.
I believe they will know in 2 years the direction they r headed with the new hand held...In 3 years it will b in production, and then around Christmas time of the 4th yr it will b released...That is my vision. I think they r going to just make the screen bigger so they can fit some more games in there. Bigger screen usually means better graphics. Other then that i don't know what else they can do.
I think it'll happen by the end of 2009 , after the release of the highly anticipated Dragon Quest IX. which will eventually give DS a final sales boost.
