I bought this with expectations, but not silly expectations. Even withstanding that, i was disappointed!

It is simply awful.

1) Graphics poor

2) Playability terrible.

3) Tackling impossible.

4) Players response time very poor. They end up standing there as you frantically press buttons.

5) Shots with nunchuck don't make any sense. It is purely random how you toggle the nunchuck, and it might not always work.

6) Headers unresponsive.

7) Very hard to sprint, can do it, but very robotic and limiting.

My advice, do not buy this if you have played something better, like xbox360 fifa, you will be dissapointed.

Your rant was actually decent enough to discuss...however you cannot recommend Wii owners to play a 360 game. I don't own one, so I can't get that better experience.

Take this to system wars, if you will.

I have the PC version of PES2008 and I'm thinking about picking up the Wii game as it is considered better than all other versions. Even with your rant, I'm still considering it as the control mechanics look great and I'm sure I can get use to them. I have heard from a lot of people who have played the game as well as a lot of reviewers and they all say it is a great soccer game.

I think the fault is either yours, or a problem with your nunchuck. The games controls are amazingly smooth for me. Headers/shooting is so easy.

The graphics ? You can't complain about that here. This game lets you draw your plays out on screen on the fly. So take that argument for a Multiplatform game that Wii doesn't completely revolutionize.

The ONLY!!! I repeat ONLY bad thing about this game is your options on Defense. Everything else makes it my favorite Soccer game ever. I own a 360 ...Fifa blows, PES08 was better than Fifa on 360. But in my opinion the Wii version is still superior.

I don't care how bad the graphics are, if they ever made a hockey game with this kind of control, I would announce my Undying love for Nintendo, and lately besides Okami (Capcom comes through, AGAIN) I haven't been too impressed so that's saying a lot.

Give it a fair try. Go through Champions Road.

All fair points. You might mistake me for being anti-wii? I am not! I love the Wii.

There is an initial buzz about this game off the back of good marketing, etc, but i am convinced that most people, especially young kids will get bored of this game very, very quickly!

It was an interesting idea, but it failed.

Also, the disconnection availabilty during an online game is perhaps the most idiotic feature of this game. On the xbox you get punished via points for disconnecting! Here, you practically get rewarded, therefore nobody is afraid to disconnect, so you rarely get a complete game with someone.

Poor, poor, poor!

People who buy the game love it

Your taste is your own but you are in a microscopic minority as far as thinking this game is bad in any way

Good luck on your next purchase

Ha. Since when did public opinion count via online ratings? Never!

Trust me, everyone will soon forget about this over-hyped game.

Far from it...It's not that the game is over hyped...it brought something new and innovative. And it's obvious that tons of people loved it. You honestly think they will just forget about it? I almost gaurantee you will now see this more and more in sports games.

You think accepted Innovation will disappear? Have you ever heard of Apple?

You will definitely see another PES like it as the game sold really well on Wii.

I agree, PES 08 for Wii is bad. The praise is coming from casual American fans who doesnt have that much experience in the genre.

That's a pretty rough statement. If you can't admit that it's a big/interesting step, then you must not like change. Or you just don't own a Wii.

hannam2929

For someone who isn't a young kid ... I'm happy at the complexity and value having something more complex than a young kid can handle.

Personally, I find this game a lot of fun. The controls aren't simple, but have worked without issue for me. The only thing I've found difficult is slide-tackles ... beyond that [and once past the learning curve of 45 minutes or so], I've found it an enjoyable game.

It wasn't as quick to get down as some games, but I really like the control scheme and prefer it as it is.

1) Graphics poor

On a par with PS2 IMO. Described as "ps2.5" in reviews (Gamespot?) which is a touch flattering. However the camera pulls out further than other versions available so all in all it does a reasonable job. Certainly not "poor", average I'll give you.

2) Playability terrible.

100% Wrong. End of. You can lose to a crap goal and still come back for more.

3) Tackling impossible.

Its "different". I've gone from hating the new method (which is still a bit ropey IMO) to thinking they couldn't have done much else - when the attack are manouvering 4 players at once theres a limit to what you can do with the old type of defending, before you were after the ball, now you are after the ball, AND trying to block 4 runners. You need to "mark up"(read the instruction booklet, or try a few more of the tutorials besides the "opening camp")

4) Players response time very poor. They end up standing there as you frantically press buttons.

Your trying to play it the old way. Check your remote is synced and the nunchuck is properly connected to it (connects via the small hole in the bottom of the remote, you really can't miss it). Read the instruction booklet, or try a few more tutorials besides the "opening camp"

5) Shots with nunchuck don't make any sense. It is purely random how you toggle the nunchuck, and it might not always work.

It works - you have a point that its a bit random, in thats its a bit random where it ends up - but if you waggle, the shot does fire off 100%

*EDIT* you are waving the nunchuck, not waggling the analogue stick on the nunchuck??

6) Headers unresponsive.

Absolutely the opposite

7) Very hard to sprint, can do it, but very robotic and limiting.

Very easy to sprint, you just drag the cursor further away from the player when dribbling. Have you completed the opening camp, or played any matches at all?

My advice, do not buy this if you have played something better.....

.......Or if you are the type who won't read the instrcutions

Of course, THAT has to be it, it's not that it's a good game it's that Americans rate it too high

Oh no, what's that I hear? Is it.....it is!

It's the scoreboard that shows the UK score as well. (right there at the bottom)

Well would you look at that, IGN UK rated the game HIGHER then it's US counterpart.

I know I know, it's also what the buyers think

Geez, I guess they're loving it too

So I guess we can't use that argument anymore

lol well anyway my point is scores don't usually tell the whole story, i would use it to convince someone to play a game or for bragging reasons, but i don't think it's a good enough reason to tell someone "this game is better than this" and the like you know?

I thought your response second time was appropriate , not the first time though.

I understand, that's why I listed reviews and retail

Reviewers are a good way to see if a game is broken. That a game said it was going to do something and because it's broken it isn't able to work right. That's how I use reviews, they can't really tell you if a game is good or bad.

Retail on the other hand is a firsthand look at people who are actually out the money for the game. So if they don't feel they have their money's worth they let you know.

Yeah! Just because I dont agree with you guys must mean that I dont have a Wii. I am not a fanboy, I am not afraid to critisize bad games. I have been playing the PES series since the first game on PSX so I have alot of knowledge and experience about the series. Even if PES 08 brought something new to the table, the game has fatal flaws, the defence system isnt working that well, specially not against good players, there are small delays after each passing and the shooting power and player stats has been reduced. Like I said, this game only gets praised by casuals that dont know much about soccer/PES.

Double standard. You're asking us not to form baseless opinions about you for not liking the game, but you go on to form your own baseless opinions about people that do like the game.

TC, I have to completely disagree with you. The controls are what makes the game great and separates it from all the other soccer sims out there. I've never noticed a problem with responsiveness, sprinting, heading, or tackling controls. Perhaps you're not using them correctly. Have you done the training camp?

The graphics seem fine to me for a Wii game. Certainly nothing special, but I don't really see much to complain about either.

I have experience with both Fifa and previous Winning Eleven games, and this is by far the best soccer sim I've ever played. Soccer is all about team movement and opening up space, not just taking one guy and dribbling down the field for a shot. This game makes it possible to control your entire team in a way that the others can't come close to. It's just a more realistic and rewarding soccer experience, imo.

I haven't played the Wii version yet, but the PC version was the new frontier of disgust. I never felt so insulted by a non-fifa football game in my 20+ years of gaming.

Agree GameOverKayo.

It is bad. I have had a lot of friends over, and in the end, all bar one couldn't stand it anymore.

I love the Wii, and a lot of games get this over-hype, but eventually it dies down and everyone thinks, "Wow, this is really crap" and move onto something better.

its an amazing game.....i needed a fresh start from the master league which was played over and over again....

also the controls are pretty responsive and players respond to every single thing i tell them to do.....and this is the first pro evo in which i can play defensive and on the counter....also the xbox360 and ps3 versions are the same as the ps2 version and the game lags 2....

The offensive controls are some of the most innovative a sports game has seen in years, and it must be experienced(at least by the more hardcore types). Your friends probably just didn't give it enough of a chance.

This is a great game if you spend a proper amount of time with it. It DOES take time to get used to, but in the end you'll be glad you did. Kinda like Blur.

I do wish the graphics were better. They kind of jipped us there(they could have done better). As an ex soccer player, and fan of watching on TV, I wish the atmosphere was better, but you really can't deny the great offencive gameplay.

Yeah, I think that people well versed with the Wiimote should pick up the offensive controls pretty fast. The drag and draw method means that even users with a shaky hand can still have pinpoint control.

Everyone who I've told about the game I've warned that they need to get a firmer hold of the controls when it comes to defense. Once you get about 6 games under your belt you start to be able to pull off moves on D that make both sides even.

It's really a gem, it plays great and looks great on the first try. Just imagine what a second pass will do for the game next season.

I totally agree. The defence is not near as bad as some make out. It's all about planning, very strategic if you ask me. Yes, the next itteration should iron out any issues, shooting should feel a little less random.

But yeah, I can defend perfectly. Again, it all comes down to people actually taking enough time to learn the game. This is one of the things I love about the Wii this gen, we actually have to learn how to play games again.....A good thing in my book.
