will the 3ds version be any good? from the looks of it it looks like it's rushed. Will the game be mostly 2d gameplay? Console versions have 3d gameplay for modern sonic but there seems to be no screenshot or video that indicates that there will be 3d gameplay for 3ds.

SEGA is trying to deliver a more portable Sonic experience (Sonic Advance, Rush, etc..).

Rushed? No,besides Green Hill Zone, all the stages on the Nintendo 3DS version will be different from the stages that are seen in the PS3 and 360.

The question is are all of them just 2d gameplay? If so, then they're going against their philosophy of "generations" because it doesn't include 3d gameplay with modern sonic.

It would be odd to call it Generations and strictly have 2D gameplay. I suspect a lot of the game is not yet in a playable form and so there wont be any 3D style gameplay on show for a while.

That doesn't matter if all we'll have from the 3ds versions is 2d gameplay. If so it might as well be called "Sonic 2d Generations".

get the console version for a console experience and the handheld version for a slightly different experience... the 2d courses will all be different from the console versions on 3DS.

but i only have a wii for console gaming. With HD gaming i leave it to my superior gaming PC. anyway, isn't the 3ds capable of 3d gameplay? I wouldn't understand if Dimps wouldn't put 3d gameplay on the 3ds version. It just defies the philosophy and design of the game and gimps it instead. Dimps the developer that gimps the game. :(

This is lame. In the video Sonic uses his homing attack and I'm sure I heard the developers saying that homing attack won't be available in classic 2d levels. So what does this mean? Is 3ds game a mix of modern and classic sonic in 2d? If so what is the point of calling it generations?

I hope they don't mess this up. I watched the game on xbox360 and ps3 it looks awesome, it's the first sonic game I'm excited about since the Genesis days. I want to play it on 3ds.

That does have 3D. The part with the todem pole is awesome. The 3d gameplay could've been done better but I'd still buy it.

Maybe, but if they're able to downsize assets from the console versions of the game and port them across, they might be able to put it all together quite quickly.

Maybe... but that would leave us with less content on the handheld version.

Consider that the modern 2D sonic handheld games also have a different playstyle to the original 2D ones anyway, so it can still be putting together old and new.

Well its not all bad news. Suspect it wont be as big a game as the console versions though.

In my opinion the 3ds version will be so much better. The 2d gameplay is perfect for the 3ds with a mixture of sonic rush/colours and sonic 2 this game will be a gem. All current ds sonic games are good so why wouldn't this one. The 3d sonic games have never been as good since the good old sonic adventure 1 & 2 on the dreamcast.

I don't even rate the Sonic Adventure games. Needless overworlds, annoying characters, annoying script, overly sensetive controls. I remember being amazed by the opening level and then being majorly disapointed with the rest of it. Sonic Colours was a much, much better game. Little to complain about, besides the needless colour gimmick stuff.

It has a low budget. MGS3D was supposed to be a remake, but now they are porting the PS2 version to save some cash.

In the 3DS version, Retro Sonic plays like the Genesis games and Modern Sonic plays like Sonic Rush/Colors DS.

Hmm.. .I'm almost tempted to get this version if they can make it as good as the Sonic Advances..
