If you dont have a ps3 or a 360 allrady then dont buy the wii first coz thers not much on it to pin you down for few houres it's a rather bitter tast in your mouth after you finish galaxy, prime and etc and you have to go in the leftovers zone wich is 90% of wii's tittles unfortunently, so think about it.
And its true only few games impliment the wii mote movement in a good way and yes i know in the wii comercials its seams so fun when they throw them selfs around with the wii mote and smille like theyr all on ecstasy but its not that much of throwing around reall.
I've bought 2 Wiis, one for my self and one as a gift. I got both at Toys R Us. I called around to several different retailers but TRU always seemed to get the biggest shipments. They were also the most helpful. Anyway I talked to the electronics manager who told me how they got their supply. At the time (this was Dec. 06 and Feb. 07) they would get shipments in via DHL or FedEx every other Sunday around 11 in the morning. ONce I figured out the pattern I'd call around 10:30 to 11:00. They ususally got 20-60 in at a time so it was fairly easy to pick one up after that. Since then I've only seen them on the shelves once, at my local Wal-Mart.
Game wise I'd recommend Galaxy, Prime 3, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 (the IR and motion controls are great), Godfather (maybe the best motion control and IR experience for the system) and Zack and Wiki (if you have kids and want something to play with them). I'm also a big fan of Madden '07. I love the controls for that game. ONce you get use to them you might find it hard to play a football game with a traditional controller. '08 has been a little disappointing but definitely give them a look. And of course Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out in a couple of weeks and it looks like they did a tremendous job on it. I understand No More Heroes is good and Super Paper Mario and Mario STrikers Charged have all been hits but I haven't played them. I also hear good things about Battalion Wars 2 and Fire Emblem but again I haven't played either. FYI, I found Wario Ware and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics boring and frankly stupid.
It also depends on what types of games you want to purchase. If you like mingames where you look like an idiot, doing stupid motions and stuff, get a Wii. But if you are not into that sort of stuff, I'd advise you against it.The reason why is that there are not a lot of good, not minigames games. Sure there is zelda, metroid, mario, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl but there are not a lot of other titles besides those. Many of the other games are just dumbed down ports inferior to other versions with worse graphics and often gimmicky controls, and with none or a very small versions of other consoles multiplayer. If you like old games, for the Nes and other systems such as those, I would advise you to get the wii, as they have many past games.

I'd say get Zack & Wiki if you are a carbon-based life form. Children optional.
i have to disagree here.. i`m 27 yo... consider myself a "hardcore" gamer (see my collection) and that game is pretty fun... nice, fun puzzle and some collectable features whic i have alwasy loved :P
1) If I were you I would get one of the Wii bundles on gamestop.com. They cost a lot, but include a lot too.
2) There are 2 must have games no matter what- Zelda TP and Galaxy. After those I would reccomend Metroid Prime 3, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4 if you haven't played it another system (its the best version), Godfather, No More Heroes, and Zack and Wiki. Super Smash will be out in a couple of weeks and Mario Kart Wii will be out in May.
3) Most of the best games on the Wii implement the controls well. The best games don't tack on the controls or use them too much. They are usually integrated subtley, making the game fresh and fun. The best examples of this are Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, Galaxy, and RE 4.
