For people not willing to read the entire article here is the quote from it,

"We have a Rival system that allows you play with people who aren't just your friends," says Nofsinger, and it will be chat-enabled using the upcoming Headbanger headset. "Not the greatest name," he admits, "but it's actually a pretty good device. Nintendo told us to not use Wii Speak."

So first Nintendo barelly supports this peripheral at all and now their kinda going out of their to tell 3rd parties not to support it as well? Thats what it sounds like imo.... :|

I wonder why they told them not to use Wii Speak for it. I suppose it might be that it's a game for more of the 'core' so they probably suppose it's better to use something like a headset .. where as Wii Speak might be better suited for games like Animal Crossing: City Folk.

I'm guessing it's due to Wii Speak using lots of bandwidth (which I did not know it did until the COD rep stated that that was the reason they came out with the headset).

I'm not quiet sure if I believe that. Regardless of what device you use, VoIP is bandwidth intensive.

I don't get it... The more games that support Wii Speak, the more reason there is for people to get one, which means more money for Nintendo.

I don't know why. It woudld've been nice if HVS explained why Nintendo suggested not to use Wii Speak. However, the developer for Black Ops says that WiiSpeak uses more bandwidth than most typical VoIP devices. Don't know if that's true or not, but who are we to say it's not true.

The Zapper is a piece of plastic that doesnt do anything, you could put a Wiimote in one and actually try to play alot of games. The other 3 actually are electronics that can do something, youre right about these not being supported much.

That is certainly odd. I have WiiSpeak and I think it is far from the best device in the world. Maybe Nintendo also thinks so.

i don't believe the Conduit 2 team that make no since why nintendo would tell dev not to use it hell they gave it away free when people bought blue ocean, and was discounted with animal crossing, and been used a bit in games so for nintendo to tell people not to use it seems like bull s****

Maybe because wiispeak needs noise cancellation and headphones don't?

All I know is MH3 would of been cooler to me if I could of had no wiispeak and more people in the MP rooms.

This is Nintendo we're talking about. Not only are they classically xenophobic, they are still anal-retentive about supporting anything in any form of progressive manner. We're talking about the same company that at one point tells us that they've been "experimenting with" and making products online since the 8-bit NES, but the first actual product to leave Japan to even TRY to do so, was the modem/broadband adapters for the Nintendo GameCube, which were supported in all of TWO games for the console's entire lifespan. Many third parties begged, pleaded and tried to get access to the software code to interface with these adapters, but were furiously denied by these **** including Free Radical (which created Timesplitters). It was well known in the dev blogs and post-mortems that FR was DESPERATE in trying to get the netcode necessary to make the GC version of Future Perfect online... and who got in their way more than anyone else? Nintendo. Nintendo is also who we have to thank for this stupid friend code **** when third parties then basically had to make their own setups in order to dodge around it. EA at least tried to get around this for their games on Wii, and were subsequently banned from using it again. So if you're wondering why Madden on Wii can't enjoy updated rosters like the other consoles do, you have only Nintendo to blame for that debacle. I'm not surprised that Nintendo is so antagonistic about supporting the Wii speak. Appalled? Absolutely. Surprised? No.

Let's not forget how now we all have to throw away our existing wii remotes and motion plus dongles for the new Remote Plus, which has these two bits integrated together, and finally allowing motion plus functionality to fit into other peripherals and shells.

It's more fit for quiet games. I'm glad they're using the headbanger instead. It doesn't pick up speaker sound.

That's most likely it. From what I've heard, WiiSpeak caused quite a few issues with lag in games like The Conduit and probably Monster Hunter Tri. It was made with slower-paced community games like Animal Crossing and the WiiSpeak channel in mind to begin with. At least High Voltage and Treyarch have access to better alternatives now.

Yes, but they find more important to protect their "image" of a safe console, where you can't talk to strangers. Note that the guy from HVS was talking about non-friends voice chat. For friends it will probably use the wii speak, which I think it's a great accessory. What a pity the lack of support. And events like this don't help; I dont want to buy the headbanger if I already have a wii speak.

I read somewhere that Conduit 2 will support boh--the headset and Wii Speak. Perhaps Wii Speak can only be used for friends and the headset could be used for friends and strangers. Then again that doesn't make sense...so let me not speculate. However, from the way that interview went, it's seems as if Wii Speak will not be supported as all, but I swear read somewhere that it was--maybe I was seeing things.

Unless I'm missing something, what Nintendo told them was to not use Wii Speak specifically for the Rival system - i.e., Nintendo wanted them to only enable voice communication between friends, not between random people on the internet.

Yeah, this is pretty beat... It would be better if they just stuck with ONE peripheral and made it good, and made a lot of games based around it.

The balance board has actually been supported by tons of games. I've seen many exercise games with the balance board logo on it. Of course Nintendo has barely used it and few non exercise games have (You can use it for Tetris at least), but it still gets use. You're right about everything else, although I wouldn't call the zapper a real peripheral, as its really only a shell and doesn't add any real functions. They better start doing more with Motion Plus now that it's a pack-in with the system and is in every new remote.

Yes thats why i always have 11 > 17 year olds always being abusive on the mic when playing games which are classed as for Adults only. Oh wait im not on the PS3 / 360 boards.

I beleive your immature enough onlyto be playingjust FPS and TPS which are aimed towards adults which clearly you arent.

Motion plus is also used, and by big sellers like WSR and sport games, Conduit 2 and Zelda .Not that weak. The only offender was Wii speak because its quality is garbage mostly.

I was actually told this by a Gamestop employee when pre-ordering MHTri months ago when asking about it.

I didn't really take his word all that seriously but looks like he may have been right!

nintendo has always made peripherals that one work for 2-3 games. wii speak may be a good idea, but wii needs a headset. the zapper is fun, but the nyko perfect shot is better. the balance board has a bunch of uses, but i have no reason to get one. M+ should have been there from launch, and now it is too late for devs to really use it. im sure zelda will be better though...and redsteel 2 is a great game(aside from no replay value). Nintendo has tons of great ideas, the zapper worked for like 2 games, the power pad for 2 games. super scope 6 had 1 game that i ever knew about. this is nintendo.

That don't suprise me at all Nintendo has been releasing products for there system from the NES days and never supports them. The only thing that would surprise me is if they actually support something like the new zelda game supporting Wii motion plus. Zelda is more for video game players so its targeting there audience as video gamers would go out to buy motion plus for more accurate gaming controls.
