I think he's right. I mean this holiday season is kind of lacking on the Nintendo titles. There are good games coming out .. though I want to know where F-Zero, Star Fox, Kirby, etc are. SMG2 and Metroid: Other M are good and all .. but those are a bit far off.

Should get back to supporting software for their hardware. If their exclusives are a way off they could push for some off third parties.

I was referring to this holiday season, where the only two big games from Nintendo were Wii Fit Plus (for the mainstream gamer) and New Super Mario Bros Wii (for the core and mainstream gamer.) And as for those, those will likely be good games, don't get me wrong. I love that they're doing more with Metroid and I like that there is more Galaxy on the way. My point was we've already had Galaxy in 2007 and a Metroid title in 2007 (though Other M is being made by a different team, so I guess its okay) -- I still want to see other Nintendo IPs make their way to the Wii. Honestly we need another F-Zero game -- F-Zero GX was amazing and I really want to see it come to the WIi -- as do i want to see Kirby, Donkey Kong and Star Fox come to the Wii. My point is that Nintendo has a lot of IPs, I don't want them to stick to three main ones.

I disagree. The Wii has been in a huge dry spell after the release of Mario Kart Wii. IMO there hasn't been a game worth buying for a year on this system. Nintendo blew it, they tried to give third party a chance and they released nothing.

It's the same thing on the other side. I'd like to want something that is not a shooter or a sandbox game on the 360 or the PS3. Guess what will be the best-sellers on these consoles this holiday: Modern Warfare 2 a FPS. As for the NIntendo side, of course, it's Mario or Zelda. Nintendo released Punch-Out earlier this year and they'll release Excitebike (not ExciteTruck or Excitebots) on Wiiware. Nintendo knows their old franchises.

The 360 also had stalled. BTW.

The Wii is still the best selling console on a global level.

I think stalling for them is not doing quadruple what the competition is doing.

Can we refrain from mentioning other consoles in the Wii forum? This is not System Wars.

Yeah, this will be a bit of a dry winter season since NSMBW will be the only big game out.

But at least it's better than last year, when Wii Music was the only big game out.

Third parties were supposed to fill in the gap while Nintendo developed their heavy hitters. Unfortunately, the third parties that did step up to the plate took some major chances and the Wii gamers didn't support them.

I didn't support those games because I'm a cheap gamer and am unwilling to pay $60 for a game. If software prices were priced at around $30-$40 I'd be more willing to drop some cash to support third-parties. Until then, I'm going to wait for those games to show up in the clearance bin or I'm lucky enough to win them at decent price on Ebay.

Most of those games are bad. Its great that some people like you can enjoy all of those, but the majority doesnt. Thats why the Wii is declining.

Most people, like myself, picked up their Wii, got a couple great games, then haven't touched it since. The next time I turn my Wii on for the next Zelda game, I'm going to be thinking to myself.. "geeze I hope this thing still works."

Not to mention, there is no reason to get multiplats on Wii over PS3 or Xbox. Self explanatory reason.

Id buy a system just for a Zelda game, so im covered there. Only wish there were more games that I wanted... I recall having 40+ Gamecube games and I have about 5 Wii games atm. With superior online and achievements, I would just rather purchase an xbox game over a wii game anyday. Lets not even get into the whole controller vs wiimote thing. There are about 2-3 games im interested in on that list, but most of them are pretty mediocre and wont take precedence over the multitude of strong releases the xbox is having right now.

I'm curious which one of those games are bad? Let alone most. And all the games listed were exclusives(minus that reflex nonsense) so I don't really get your comment. Anyway what the Wii has lacked since Mario Kart dropped is a "killer app" they will be rectifying that next year but to be honest no console has had a killer app this year. Also for the people who are saying the Wii has nothing this holiday season, well yeah there has been alot of delays, but still there are solid games coming this quarter that doesn't have Nintendo's name on the box. People often ignore those games and then say there is nothing coming out, but none of those games are killer apps.

I think two things should be noted here:

1. "The Wii has stalled" is not equivalent to "The Wii is screwed". Even with the PS3's price cut, it still only barely outsold the Wii in September, and the Wii outsold it in August.

2. Iwata expresses, later in the article, optimism regarding their ability to turn things around in the future.

People who want to say "lol gg nintendo" are basically working against every single shred of historical precedent that exists. No console that got as far in the lead as the Wii is in the third year of a generation ended up losing in the end.

Exactly Sepewrath. Nintendo needs a killer app right now and it just doesn't look like its happening this holiday season. It didn't happen last holiday season either though. I think we all know what this means: Nintendo hates Christmas.

It takes time my friend, we got what 5 of them in the first year and a half, including one mainstream one in Wii Fit. You couldn't really expect them to keep up that pace, its impossible, and people should stop acting like they expect Nintendo and only Nintendo to support the console. Yes 3rd party support isn't exactly the greatest, but there are quality 3rd party titles out there. If you choose to ignore them in favor of only NIntendo titles, then you cant complain about not having any games. Nintendo cant release Zelda every week after all.(Arc not talking to you, just making a general statement) [QUOTE="GabuEx"]

And pretty much this, like I said in another topic, people aren't waiting the PS3 to drop to $200 or the Wii to drop to $99 to go on a buying spree. Software will cause hardware spikes, they know when they release things like Galaxy 2, Zelda and Pikmin they will see a hardware spike and they know no game will cause a hardware spike that will evaporate a 30 million console lead that will land them in last place. With the way 3rd party's support the Wii of course sales would have periods of stalling, because like I said Nintendo cant produce Zelda every week.

Nintendo made a gamble that the thrid parties would step up this holiday season. Unfortunatly they have not really steped up to the plate. Besides NSMBW they counted on Metroid Prime Trilogy and Wii Sports Resort to help get them through. Next yeat looks outstanding for Nintendo and Third Parties. Not to mention they are releasing a DS Zelda in December. Now sure they are slowing down a bit becasue the PS3 steped it up a bit, but no need to push the panic button. There doing fine and they're still miles ahead of M$ and Sony in profits and very compitive in sales. Calm down folks

And on a side note to the people saying Ninty hates Christmas it could be the fact that Christmas is not quite as prominent in Japan.

see my second post. I do agree that the future is looking brighter for the wii in terms of game releases, but its been pretty stagnant the past year.. just not up to the standards of the other consoles.

Not everyone is interested in playing light gun games or sports games for the tenth billion time. Punch out was cool but not worth $50. Muramasa seems cool but also a bit repetitive. Some of those games might be great, but they are only great for a short amount of time. 2010 does look good for the system with Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid other M, and supposedly Zelda, but what happened to F-Zero, Star Fox, Pilotwings, and Wave Race>

People bought the sytem because they thought a lot of the known IP's would come to Wii at some point. Aside from the biggest ones of all time, Nintendo has not delivered. Most of the games are fun for a rental but nothing worth owning. The only game I regret giving up is Warioware.

I think the biggest problem comes from Nintendo expecting too much from 3rd party devs. Nintendo seems to pump out way more software on the DS (because it prints money), but all the DS focus seems to have taken it's toll on the Wii. Dump some more resources into software development for the Wii, Nintendo! Where's the Zelda/Donkey Kong/Pikmin/Starfox/Earthbound/Kirby/F-Zero/etc love? Sure "It's in development", but no screen shots = it's still a long ways off = interest in the Wii takes a dive. Get on it! lol

GabuEx

^This and Nintendo's meaning by the phrase "The Wii has stalled" mostly, if not totally, applies to the expectations that have been set for the system due to the success it has achieved thus far; by comparison, any other system, PS2 included, would be considered in good shape with the hardware numbers this year, seeing as how the Wii is still selling at a PS2-like pace, despite being the fastest selling console ever. Right now, however, this doesn't measure up to what Nintendo wanted to see, hence why we see remarks like this, despite the fact that the Wii is still holding its own against the HD counterparts, despite those systems having to cut their prices in half since the start of the gen. Nintendo aimed pretty high this coming year (Iwata even predicted record software sales for the system, in fact), but the content simply wasn't enough to meet Nintendo's newfound expectations for the system. Period.

That said, I expect Nintendo's holiday lineup to be the beginning of the end of Nintendo's worries, and by this time next year, the Wii should be back in a great enough shape for Nintendo to be happy, thanks in large part to some actual system-selling software that isn't over a year old (ala Wii Fit being the best system selling game for the Wii the first half of the year). Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M are already bigger games than anything we saw this year, and with MotionPlus hopefully starting to hit its stride and a more diverse lineup of games in various genres, there should be far more appealing and quality titles for everyone in the next year.

Sadly, have zero chance of seeing great series such as F-Zero, Donkey Kong, Starfox and Earthbound on Wii. This generation Nintendo has pulled support from these 4 franchises (they've never supported Earthbound) because they wanted to use the teams to make the Wii sports/music/crap titles. It's not so much that Nintendo is screwed, it's that we the gamer are. And sadly because this will be Nintendo's most profitable system, we'll see the same thing on Wii 2. Don't buy into the PR response that Iwata is giving, there just gonna send us Wii Music 2 and another Wii sports.

The Wii isn't three years old yet. How can one come to the conclusion that Nintendo has pulled support from certain franchises when the gen isn't close to over? Because the Wii is still doing as well as it is, it still have plenty of time to get titles from the franchises you mentioned. I will agree that Nintendo has appeared to focus more on the Wii brand than its B-rate franchises, but I can't say I blame them for that. Look at how successful Wii Fit has been with one game and compare that to a series, like StarFox, with *counts* five games (not counting StarFox2). Those Wii games have defined what it is to be a system-selling game this gen, which is something that F-Zero, StarFox, Pilotwings, or even Donkey Kong in this day and age could never hope to do. It would be foolish to set aside something that's guarnteed to sell by the millions over something that MIGHT reach a million, if it's lucky.

That said, I don't think Nintendo has forgotten about these franchises at all. The same way Nintendo has given us a new Punch-Out, brought back the Excitebike series and reinvented it, and even brought 2D Mario and Wario games into the fold, they can be working on a few other established IPs as well. Just because we haven't heard from them doesn't mean that we won't.

^ You bring up a good argument however you've overlooked one thing. Yes the Wii has only been out for roughly half of it's expect lifetime (about three years, most see it as 6 years top lifetime) however games take time to make. We are half way done already and Nintendo has not yet hinted at or announced any of these franchises. The average game time to make a game is roughly 2 to 3 years, so even if something is announced tomorrow, we won't see it for a while. So if they did announce Star Fox Wii it would not be ready for two or three years, which would put it dangerously close to being pushed to the Wii 2.

A good point. However, what you thought I missed is something I really didn't. :P Just because Nintendo hasn't announced anything doesn't mean that they haven't been working on these games. Just look at Excitebots and Punch-Out; this time last year, we had just found out about these games, and they came out the first half of this year. A publisher/developer isn't obligated to tell us how long something is being worked on, so while we're all here speculating when Nintendo's going to go to work on these games, they could very well be in progress as we speak. At this point, if it isn't Mario, Zelda, or a Wii-type game, I don't expect Nintendo to reveal their games until they're well in-progress. What's more, as long at these games come out for the Wii, who's really to complain about WHEN they come? Better late than never, right?

Use to be every store I went to over here I could not find a wii ANYWHERE, but now every store I go to has a boat load of them in stock, that's the problem with most of Nintendo's newest systems, there is only a hand full of good games, the rest are third party games that were made for a quick cash in. And that's not great at all, I believe it's the Wii's gimmick that is preventing it from having good games.

The only game I regret giving up is Warioware.

this poast is correct

Whats correct about it? There is zero indication that those franchises wont come, just because they haven't come in the first 3 years doesn't mean they wont come. Like mmg said no one expected the Excite games or Punch Out a non Prime series Metroid or a 2D Mario when they first decided to get a Wii. Yet here all those games are, you don't put all your eggs in one basket, with the them keeping the big fish in the news, there's little reason to say "oh and were also doing F-Zero too" because its not going to hang in the news for a year before its released like a Mario or Zelda. Like they could have announced it at E3 but what would have been the point, all the news would have been about the 2 Mario games and a piece of Zelda artwork.

I dont care who posts a list of anything and tells me that they think its the best years list of games ever for me the Wii has been the most disappointing console I have ever owned. I still keep my Wii because I love the first year or so of games but I haven't touched the console in months now, there has been none of the high quality software the company I grew up on are known for giving us in over a year now and only a couple of game in the near future.

Even though the Wii has "stalled" this year does not mean that it will be permanent. The main reason for the drop in Wii sales in 2009 include the lack of "must buy" games that sell consoles like Mario Kart Wii (sold 18.36 million worldwide) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The growth of the video game industry last year was due to best-sellers like these games that sold millions worldwide.

Will The New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Super Mario Galaxy 2 sell consoles like the aforementioned games that were released in the first half of 2008? We do not know yet, but if they do, then the Wii will return to the sales pace it was before it stalled.

For Mr. Iwata to say that it would be hard to match 2008, I would agree. It was a year where the industry grew by leaps and bound, much to due with games that sold in the millions, but also sold systems.

-The Conduit
-Madworld
-Dead Space Extraction
-House of the Dead: Overkill
-Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
-Deadly Creatures
-A Boy and His Blob

Upcoming Wii games to look forward to:

-Silent Hill: Homecoming

-Sin & Punishment 2
-Arc Rise Fantasia
-Pikmin 3
-Legend of Zelda
-Metroid Other M
-Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

-The Grinder
-Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage
-Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex
-New Super Mario Bros. Wii
-Super Mario Galaxy 2

Okay then. Well....I feel as if my job is done here ;)

Darth-Samus

Most of those games are bad. Its great that some people like you can enjoy all of those, but the majority doesnt. Thats why the Wii is declining.

Most people, like myself, picked up their Wii, got a couple great games, then haven't touched it since. The next time I turn my Wii on for the next Zelda game, I'm going to be thinking to myself.. "geeze I hope this thing still works."

Not to mention, there is no reason to get multiplats on Wii over PS3 or Xbox. Self explanatory reason.

Whoa whoa whoa

What?? I mean

Like really?

Okay...I think all logic has left the room and I am unable to communicate with the likes of this company :P I believe my point has already been made ^^^^^lol.

Buh...buh... buh... but... uh... Pikmin... Mario... Metroid... Zelda... buh... buh... bad? BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I disagree. The Wii has been in a huge dry spell after the release of Mario Kart Wii. IMO there hasn't been a game worth buying for a year on this system. Nintendo blew it, they tried to give third party a chance and they released nothing.HelloJon
MY SIGNATURE WOULD LIKE TO SAY HELLO!!!!!! Get it. Play it. Love it. Or don't, but until you do you have no right to say there hasn't been a game worth buying. Even if you do and you don't like it you still need to play Muramasa: The Demon Blade, LostWinds 2, Dead Space Extraction, and MadWorld before you can even say "There were no games worth buying this year," but I'm betting you'll like at least one.

^ Your 100% correct. I really do need to play Little King's Story. However I've rented all the other games you've mentioned (minus lost winds 2) and none of them really stuck much with me. (I have Dead Space on PS3 so I felt no need to play this one)

Too bad none of those games are out. Like I said before, future releases look to be picking up, but atm its completely dry. Not everyone cares for Little King's Story, sorry.
