I'm not a big gamer, but the wii has reintroduced me to gaming and got me excited for them once again. So I pop in RE4 on Day One, and within minutes those villagers don't. stop. coming. Level One Chapter One, about freaking 5 minutes into the game. I kill the first four and like eight more come at me. I can pick off a few, but there's always one or two that creep in, or rise from the dead.I tried going down the side path, killing the hay woman and ducking into the house. Even then, they won't. freaking. die. Is this game really that hard so early on? Am I going to be helpless for the entire time? Am I missing something that should make this at least a wee bit easiery? [notice I avoided the obvs. pun].

It's definitely tough at first as you adjust to what it takes to kill them. Shooting in the foot to knock them down, then in the head seems most effective with the pistol. In the first village, the safest place is to go immediately right, kill the two or three there and you have a nice camping spot where everyone has to come directly do you. EDIT: Reread, seems you did that, but going into the little cabin wouldn't be very effective, I don't think, not enough distance to see them.

Yeah that part aint easy when you aren't use to the controls. Just keep trying.

There are much harder parts in the game. It isn't easy.

Did you choose the difficulty level easy?

I know it's a rather hard game. Even more so if you don't know what to do. Just a tip: head into the house that has the open door to the left of the fire when you head into the village...it'll trigger a cutscene and you might find something that helps you out up the stairs. Have a blast...It's a great game!

Also, don't feel bad. My bro can beat most of us in all FPS's, although I can beat him if I really get into the game...yet he had a real tough time with RE4...the village fight. It's all about the types of games you play and how you play them. We played Gears on Xbox live, and for some reason, I was doing way better than he was...Just the way I was playing.

I think that spot is meant to be a rude awakening into the game. You won't have moments that difficult for quite a while longer after you beat it. Definitely go to the right and up that trail right at the beginning of the village. The trick is not to focus on one enemy, but to pop the heads of the closest one since it makes them stagger and gives youa bit more distance. A grenade when they gather doesn't hurt either.

Good luck.

well for the first time yeah it is quite tough, i am a seasoned resident evil player and i cant wait to play the wii version but i can still help as i played the GC version. first, your in the village right? go to the second house on the left, double story house, go upstairs grab the items and the shotgun (h3ll yeah :) ) jump out window with ladder, go into house right on front of you, chokepoint baby. defend yourself and feel free to use nades. if your heart is going crazy and your hands are shaking from excitement just calm down and remember that there really isn't a chainsaw weilding freak trying to kill you.

You need to have some strategies when your shooting the zombies. Shoot them in the leg, and then kick them. Shoot them in the head, and when their on the ground knife slash them.

Also, you can just go straight and near the church tower to your left is a building - go inside that to proceed farther in the chapter.. it will be easier instead of killing all those zombies.

it took me a while to get used to it as well. maybe not as long as you are..lol. but i died several times before i got the hang of the controls. that last time i thought i was doing pretty well..i turned around and there was a chainsaw in my face. so keep trying. aim for the center of the head. if you stun one, you can kick it away to buy time. if you knock over a ladder with people on it, it is possible to blow off their heads before they can even get up. or, better yet, just pull out a shotgun and let them climb the ladder. it's like shooting fish in a barrel. there are all sorts of strategies like that that you will pick up on as you progress. good luck

yeah re4 is just practice and experience, but generally when facing less than 5 guys, it should take you about one clip from your pistol to kill them if you have smart hit placement and use meee and knife wisely, later one killing 2 guys with just your knife wil get easy.

The game is quite challenging at the beginning. One major thing throughout most of the game is that you have to do more than shoot, you must use your head. There are so many strategies you can use against the enemies. And they get smarter too. When you have your gun pointed at their head a few seconds, they may shift their head and you'll miss. Enemies actually are pretty smart and work together as a group which is something I'm not used to seeing.

Don't get discouraged though. The game is definetly worth beating even though it is a challenge. I got a players guide free when I got RE4 on GC and it's very helpful in sticky situations. Plus sometimes there is an easy way to deal with a tough situation. Like what people have mentioned above for the village scene. The game can be tough, but you'll learn to cope with the intelligent AI as you go about the game.

What I always do is go into the house on the far left from the fire where it will trigger a cutscene, and then you go up to the top, pick up the shotgun, jump out the window, and then run toward the Lighthouse. From there, climb the ladder up to the top of the lighthouse, and just shoot off as many ganados as you can with your pistol. Go down to the bottom once you're either out of pistol ammo, or you're satisfied with the amount of kills you got. Stay to the corner of the top when you're shooting to avoid the molotvs. But anyways, once at the bottom, pull out your shotgun, and when the enemies get close to you, fire at them, prefferably in bunches. The chainsaw guy will also be knocked down this way, and will eventually die.

Hope that helped.

Ah, the good 'ol beginning village sequence. I had to play through that a few times before I could beat it, too. It sure does help a lot when you firstget the shotgun in the game, though.

You probably don't really suck, your just not used to the game. Once you play the gaem more things like that get easier. I had a hard time in the village also the first time I played it. There are other parts harder than that in the game, but once you get there you will be more prepared. They throw that hard spot in at the beginning of the game so that you can adjust I guess.

luckily, you have guys telling you about the shotgun though, I tried that part like 50 times before I got it, and it was mostly that hard because I didn't get the shotgun.

Its all about the ammo. The more you conserve the better you'll be, try the shoot once then kick them. Use the knife as much as possible like when you kick them over and theyre not dead yet stab a few times and move on. This game kicks ass.

Well, u could always do this . . .

Rush into the village, and go into the house that has a hence. (this should be the second house) Once u're in, the cut scene will trigger (Oh Crap CHAINSAW). Go around the stairs, there will be barrels, knife those, and get some gold or ammo.

Walk upstairs, take the shotgun mounted on the wall. To the left is a cabinet, knife it to break the glass. Take the grenade. At this point in the game, there will be a villager climbing through the window, if u're quick, u can run to the window and push the ladder down, if not, shoot some rounds so he falls off the ladder, then push ladder to the ground.

On the bed in the same room will be some shot gun shells, grab those. Now, u're all set, just jump out the window to the left of the cabinet where u got the grenade. Jump off the rooftop and proceed towards the hill. Now that u're in high ground, just pistol anyone who comes close. Save the grenade for mobs, or chainsaw guy. Save ur shot gun for the chainsaw guy (make sure u shoot him in the head, easiest way to kill). And i think u're set

I'm glad that I'm not alone in this. I got my copy today and was getting flustered becuase I couldn't get past that point. It just seemed as if I didn't have enough ammo. Then, i'd be sitting there shooting people and out of knowhere I get my head sliced off by that freaking chainsaw. This game has more puzzle elements to it than I thought (I never played the original), but it's still amazingly fun. There's just something satisfying about shooting someone in the knee and then the head and watching their head explode. My favorite game on Wii so far :D

One thing to know is that while a lot of people say go into the second house and get the shotgun, if you don't then the chainsaw guy won't appear and you will just have to deal with normal ganados. Also I heard that that part is on either a timeror kill count. You either have to last so long or kill a bunch to get past that part, your choice. One thing I did to get past that part the first time was go down the side path and into the first house that you can go into.I believe its the second building andits a one story. Then break open the boxes on the table in the back and grab the incindary grenade and start running around the village. Shoot the ganados in the leg every so often and try to get as many as you can into one group. Then turn and run up the path back out of town just past the fork. This will bottleneck them and you can throw the incendiary at them and light most on fire. Then just shoot any that walk through the fire in the knees to keep them in the fire. once the fire starts to die shoot any you can in the head or chest. Most will be weak enough that one or two hits will kill them iftheir not already dead. By that point you should have killed enough or almost enough that it should be easy to end the village part. Once the cutscene happens go around town and pick everything up including the shotgun there wont be anymore ganados in the village to worry about and the chainsaw guy wont be triggered.

Weird.. I never saw any chainsaw guy, or shotgun, for that matter. I had to buy my shotgun later, what a steal! And I'm the type of guy that searches every nook and cranny, too.

On topic, I also thought that part was hard stuff, but I got through it in all style.. I had shot one villager in the head, and even though he was surrounded by 5 or 7, I went in for the kick, anyway. Thing is, I didn't just hit the villager I was targeting, I hit everyone around him with the kick, heads exploding everywhere. That felt good :D

On another note, can anyone tell me how does the deal with heads exploding work? I think I have a decent aim, but of all the times I point at the villagers head, only about 30% get their head blown off. Do they have to be damaged to explode?

Word of advice on that game - never let yourself get surrounded. As soon as you enter an area, scope it out and RUN for the safest corner where nobody can sneak up behind you. Force them to come to you, and take em out as you see fit. The tip somewhere near the top was good - shoot em in the foot/knees to made them fall, then in the head to take em out. It works!

head explosion with a pistol is basically a critical hit. There's a certain chance it will happen with each shot. It will also explode if you shoot thehead after doingenough damage. (I believe that's how itworks)If you upgrade the standard pistol all the way, it's critical headshot percentage gets multiplied by 5. (or maybe 4, I forgot)

Head explosions depend on the gun u're using.

Anything with a 7 or morefirepower and shot directly at a head will tear the head right off, but sometimes u don't want the head to come off . . . u'll have to find that out later in the game.

Pistols on the other hand work by percentage. Ur starting handgun does about i think head explosions 10 - 20% of the time. Once u've upgraded it to the max and exclusive it, it will do head explosions at like about 50% of the time.

Personally, i usually get ride of my handgun as soon as i get the punisher for free from the merchant. I like guns that do splash damage. I also reserve my gold to upgrading the striker and the semi automatic rifle.

don't worry if you find it difecult, there are a few more diffecult later but you'll be FAR better by then

That is the hardest part of the game to me, but what I do is take the left path first and run past the woman up the path were the chainsaw chics at and throw my gernade to take them down but it will not kill the chainsaw chic so run to the door turn around and just take out the enemies as they come make sure not to let the chainsaw chic get you. After you do this for like 4 or 5 minutes it will end but try to reload when you have a chance instead of running to 0 then doing it.
