Yeah that part aint easy when you aren't use to the controls. Just keep trying.
There are much harder parts in the game. It isn't easy.
Did you choose the difficulty level easy?
I know it's a rather hard game. Even more so if you don't know what to do. Just a tip: head into the house that has the open door to the left of the fire when you head into the village...it'll trigger a cutscene and you might find something that helps you out up the stairs. Have a blast...It's a great game!
Also, don't feel bad. My bro can beat most of us in all FPS's, although I can beat him if I really get into the game...yet he had a real tough time with RE4...the village fight. It's all about the types of games you play and how you play them. We played Gears on Xbox live, and for some reason, I was doing way better than he was...Just the way I was playing.

I think that spot is meant to be a rude awakening into the game. You won't have moments that difficult for quite a while longer after you beat it. Definitely go to the right and up that trail right at the beginning of the village. The trick is not to focus on one enemy, but to pop the heads of the closest one since it makes them stagger and gives youa bit more distance. A grenade when they gather doesn't hurt either.
Good luck.
You need to have some strategies when your shooting the zombies. Shoot them in the leg, and then kick them. Shoot them in the head, and when their on the ground knife slash them.
Also, you can just go straight and near the church tower to your left is a building - go inside that to proceed farther in the chapter.. it will be easier instead of killing all those zombies.
The game is quite challenging at the beginning. One major thing throughout most of the game is that you have to do more than shoot, you must use your head. There are so many strategies you can use against the enemies. And they get smarter too. When you have your gun pointed at their head a few seconds, they may shift their head and you'll miss. Enemies actually are pretty smart and work together as a group which is something I'm not used to seeing.
Don't get discouraged though. The game is definetly worth beating even though it is a challenge. I got a players guide free when I got RE4 on GC and it's very helpful in sticky situations. Plus sometimes there is an easy way to deal with a tough situation. Like what people have mentioned above for the village scene. The game can be tough, but you'll learn to cope with the intelligent AI as you go about the game.
harmonixer is pretty right...
u dont stand there and get through the game...
run and shoot...
run and shoot...
trip and die
What I always do is go into the house on the far left from the fire where it will trigger a cutscene, and then you go up to the top, pick up the shotgun, jump out the window, and then run toward the Lighthouse. From there, climb the ladder up to the top of the lighthouse, and just shoot off as many ganados as you can with your pistol. Go down to the bottom once you're either out of pistol ammo, or you're satisfied with the amount of kills you got. Stay to the corner of the top when you're shooting to avoid the molotvs. But anyways, once at the bottom, pull out your shotgun, and when the enemies get close to you, fire at them, prefferably in bunches. The chainsaw guy will also be knocked down this way, and will eventually die.
Hope that helped.
that brings up a question i had. i killed the chainsaw guy in the beginning. does he ever come back? What I always do is go into the house on the far left from the fire where it will trigger a cutscene, and then you go up to the top, pick up the shotgun, jump out the window, and then run toward the Lighthouse. Yep, you have to fight him two times more.
You probably don't really suck, your just not used to the game. Once you play the gaem more things like that get easier. I had a hard time in the village also the first time I played it. There are other parts harder than that in the game, but once you get there you will be more prepared. They throw that hard spot in at the beginning of the game so that you can adjust I guess.
Well, u could always do this . . .
Rush into the village, and go into the house that has a hence. (this should be the second house) Once u're in, the cut scene will trigger (Oh Crap CHAINSAW). Go around the stairs, there will be barrels, knife those, and get some gold or ammo.
Walk upstairs, take the shotgun mounted on the wall. To the left is a cabinet, knife it to break the glass. Take the grenade. At this point in the game, there will be a villager climbing through the window, if u're quick, u can run to the window and push the ladder down, if not, shoot some rounds so he falls off the ladder, then push ladder to the ground.
On the bed in the same room will be some shot gun shells, grab those. Now, u're all set, just jump out the window to the left of the cabinet where u got the grenade. Jump off the rooftop and proceed towards the hill. Now that u're in high ground, just pistol anyone who comes close. Save the grenade for mobs, or chainsaw guy. Save ur shot gun for the chainsaw guy (make sure u shoot him in the head, easiest way to kill). And i think u're set
Weird.. I never saw any chainsaw guy, or shotgun, for that matter. I had to buy my shotgun later, what a steal! And I'm the type of guy that searches every nook and cranny, too.
On topic, I also thought that part was hard stuff, but I got through it in all style.. I had shot one villager in the head, and even though he was surrounded by 5 or 7, I went in for the kick, anyway. Thing is, I didn't just hit the villager I was targeting, I hit everyone around him with the kick, heads exploding everywhere. That felt good :D
On another note, can anyone tell me how does the deal with heads exploding work? I think I have a decent aim, but of all the times I point at the villagers head, only about 30% get their head blown off. Do they have to be damaged to explode?
I'm not a big gamer, but the wii has reintroduced me to gaming and got me excited for them once again. So I pop in RE4 on Day One, and within minutes those villagers don't. stop. coming. Level One Chapter One, about freaking 5 minutes into the game. I kill the first four and like eight more come at me. I can pick off a few, but there's always one or two that creep in, or rise from the dead.I tried going down the side path, killing the hay woman and ducking into the house. Even then, they won't. freaking. die. Is this game really that hard so early on? Am I going to be helpless for the entire time? Am I missing something that should make this at least a wee bit easiery? [notice I avoided the obvs. pun].jerryyeti
Use your grenade that you should've picked up earlier.
Is there a difficulty setting on RE4 Wii edition??
cause ive only played the cube version, and there is none

head explosion with a pistol is basically a critical hit. There's a certain chance it will happen with each shot. It will also explode if you shoot thehead after doingenough damage. (I believe that's how itworks)If you upgrade the standard pistol all the way, it's critical headshot percentage gets multiplied by 5. (or maybe 4, I forgot)

If you live in North America, no, I think, other than Normal and Professional mode (which teh cube also had.)

Head explosions depend on the gun u're using.
Anything with a 7 or morefirepower and shot directly at a head will tear the head right off, but sometimes u don't want the head to come off . . . u'll have to find that out later in the game.
Pistols on the other hand work by percentage. Ur starting handgun does about i think head explosions 10 - 20% of the time. Once u've upgraded it to the max and exclusive it, it will do head explosions at like about 50% of the time.
Personally, i usually get ride of my handgun as soon as i get the punisher for free from the merchant. I like guns that do splash damage. I also reserve my gold to upgrading the striker and the semi automatic rifle.
no your not missing anything, that part of the game is one of the most dfiffecult, it sets the scene for many to come
don't worry if you find it difecult, there are a few more diffecult later but you'll be FAR better by then
m_machine024 - I thought there wasn't an easy difficulty in the U.S. version. And, I didn't have a problem with the controls.
