He's right.
Half the time on the boards it's just little kids complaining and whining. I can guarantee you there will be more of that in this thread. And I know exactly who's going to do the whining, too.
It's true. We just got a huge load of games announced, not to mention killer games already out and yet, there are people still clamouring for more.
The media summit was fantastic and showed off so many games, I couldn't keep count
He's probably right. Yet I haven't received a Wii game in the past six months, so it's either myself or there's bug in Nintendo's industry. Oh well, more games on the way.
I laughed at the comment saying Mario Kart was hardcore. Personally, it isn't.
I've been saying this for a long time. Nintendo isn't the only developer on the Wii. Even then, they release a great game every month! How you guys can't be satisfied is beyond me . I suggest you actually try out Wii Fit. Its actually really fun. Also, it had an 80% average on Gamerankings.
Yup, can't blame him for feeling that way. If you're so hardcore that you can blow through all the good games the Wii has to offer in jsut a couple of months, then perhaps it's time to go multiplat.
Man, we could get a Star Fox Wii, a F-zero Wii, Punch-Out Wii, Pikmin 3, a new Zelda AND a new Mario all announced on the same day and we'd get many of these on the boards:
Where's my Luigi's Mansion 2? Where's my Kid Icarus? Where's my *insert title*?:cry::cry:
Nintendo has a rather good balance between the casual and the hardcore gamers out now and still many 12 year old whiners say they're not pleased one single bit.
I mean yeah SSBB and Mario Kart Wii, they're keeping me occupied and they're going to for the next couple years :D Plus, the additions of more confirmed games already happening. All in all, it's all good 8)
I still buy a game every 2 weeks. I still play about 20-30 hours a week. Am I insane like that? Indeed, but there are a lot of games I want. I don't blame anyone for making too few, because its not my problem they aren't getting my money by not releasing more.
Reggie needs to realize that the only people complaining are those who want to give them more money. It's almost like he's apologizing for not being able to keep up.
Maybe he needs to call out himself for not being the provider of more Nintendo games.
meh...i dont agree with him. People were upset because Nintendo didn't show anything but casual at E3 this year...not because it wasn't Mario or Zelda. The only game they showed to their fans was Animal Crossing, and some like myself couldn't care for that title. E3 is a showcase for the next year or 2, to generally show off whats coming out or whats work in progress..."hardcore" fans got Wii Music and AC...thats it.
Im not whinning (as mentioned by the nintendo fanboy above), i'm stating an honest opinion that doesn't involve me bending down and kissing a companies butt. Having been playing Nintendo consoles (own all of them) for 20+ years...I can honestly say Wii is the very first time i've been underwhelmed by what Wii has to offer. If people disagree with me, thats fine...I can handle 'flaming' (word used around these forums) but at least i'm not lying to myself saying otherwise.
Maye not for you, but it is for me. I play it a lot and am very very good. The other day I got hit with no less than three blue shells and still won the race by a large margin. He's probably right. Yet I haven't received a Wii game in the past six months, so it's either myself or there's bug in Nintendo's industry. Oh well, more games on the way.

If that was the case, I would not recommend him another console but to go outside and get a life.Yup, can't blame him for feeling that way. If you're so hardcore that you can blow through all the good games the Wii has to offer in just a couple of months, then perhaps it's time to go multiplat.

Reggie's new stance should be giving everyone the finger and then telling everyone to screw.
Whatever new they come out with people aren't happy.

"That's why they call me the Regginator."
Yeah...so what have we gotten this year? I guess you could say Super Smash Bros but meh. Otherwise my Wii got No More Heroes and Megaman 9...that is is... Yeah, if I didn't have a PS3 and was not pre-med I would be pissed too!ice_radon
What the heck region are you in?
We have Mario Kart, Williams Pinball, Castle of Shikigama, BlastWorks, PES 2009, MLB Power Pros 08.
You must have at least some of those in your region
I agree totally here. I would have loved to see new franchies, hell I would have even been super happy with another proper Luigis Mansion( I have some strange deep love for that games, don't ask why...). But yeah, they showed Cami being a woman going for their new target audience. They showed shawn white to try and get all the 11 year olds in, they showed Wii music to get all of the 3-6 year olds and then the 60-90 year olds to jump on board since it really doesn't matter what the hell you press. So where is my demographic...or hell, Nintendos following for the past 20 odd years, the 13-35 year olds or whatever that demographic is?meh...i dont agree with him. People were upset because Nintendo didn't show anything but casual at E3 this year...not because it wasn't Mario or Zelda. In some ways Reggie is completely right, the more they give, the more the people want from Nintendo and they just can't keep up with demand. Never before has Nintendo come out with so much in such a short amount of time and what does that do to most of us out there? We now expect more, we expect them the keep putting out great games on a constant basis, which is most likely due to the lackluster third party support the Wii started with. Nintendo's Media Summit was great and I'm very pleased with what all was announced, now I'm just hungry for more news and can't wait to hear and see more of these new IPs they just announced.
However at the same time I can't blame gamers for being upset when it comes to terms of the amount of games the Wii has (yes I know we have plenty), when you compare what the Wii has to what the 360 and PS3 have and how often they have bigger games coming out. The Wii does get the shaft in terms of multiplatform releases and those are some of the bigger games and are what feeds the 360 and PS3. So I guess we as Wii owners what Nintendo to make up for that in some ways, give us more to look forward to since they decided to not push it graphically and I for one feel that valueable time is wasted developing casual games instead of focusing in on the bigger titles or flushing out new IPs.
Nintendo has done a great job this generation in terms of games and the quality of the games they have put out, I think most of this falls onto the third party developers out there and when they fail us we look to Nintendo, who is without a doubt the #1 first party developer ever. I'm predicting that in about a year's time the Wii gaming issue will be a thing of the past now that more third party developers are taking the Wii seriously and with new engines coming forward that are really pushing the Wii (check out the latest Conduit preview and Call of Duty: World at War which has the COD4 engine running on the Wii) and now things like the Unreal 3 engine might be on the Wii, things are definitely looking up. Third party developers now know the Wii and have seen how to use the controller and how not to, plus with Wii Speak and Wii Motion Plus coming up soon, things are definitely going to improve.
Lol, someone needs to bring this guy up to speed.
Before E3, he said that there was going to be something revealed that would make the hardcore really happy. When many were upset and disappointed with E3, he was surprised, said he couldn't understand it and said that there's no reason why anyone would feel left out, dismissing core gamers' concerns by calling them insatiable... whilst Cammie and Iwata were issuing apologies for E3 and acknowledging their error.
Now he's telling us we're going to be able to play off SD cards... whilst Iwata is saying we won't be able to. And again, he's dismissing core gamers' concerns by calling them "insatiable", and just a month before, core gamers' concerns over lack of storage space were being dismissed by Nintendo by calling them merely "geeks and otaku".
When is Nintendo Japan going to go beyond issuing apologies for their NA and EU counterparts and realise that having their overseas reps insult their fans is not the best way of going about business?
I'm really getting sick of the dismissal and the insults of those with legitimate concerns, and it would appear that Nintendo Japan is getting increasingly embarrassed by it, as they should be. This is not how you treat customers.
Reggie's definitely right. I'm not going to lie though, I was disappointed at Nintendo's E3 showing because there weren't very many first party games but I knew there were third parties so I didn't really mind. After the media summit Ninty has completely regained my trust because they decided to bring Fire Emblem DS over here along with Sin and Punishment 2. Then they reviving a franchise people have been asking for for years, Punch Out!!. They're also continuing the great series of Mario RPG games. I for one am not disappointed and none of you should be either. By the way, I also have an Xbox 360 and PSP in addition to my DS and Wii if it matters to any of you.
This latest press conference was good, and while I am satisfied with the games they showcased, the fact remains that they still haven't done much for more serious gamers. Look at the big games out there - your World of Warcrafts and your Bioshocks and Elder Scrolls - then look at Nintendo's offerings. While they are trying to appeal to every demographic - and they have really been trying in other ways with the console itself - their games do not appeal to all gamers. It's a limited reach.
But there is nothing Nintendo can do about it this console generation - they have done everything they can for the Wii for now, so it's all riding on whether the next Nintendo console is half-decent or just for kids and old people.
and you are one of them. He's right

IGN- "What do you think? Should Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii be enough to satisfy us for the entire year?"
My answer is no.
ohhh.... turning this into another debate? well much like i said earlier, shift your anger to third parties, cause nintendo is doing what no other company can. This latest press conference was good, and while I am satisfied with the games they showcased, the fact remains that they still haven't done much for more serious gamers. it's a shame your game score does not = good player.
people say they are wasting time and resources on casual titles. but without wii sales could we expect the amount of japaneesse support wii is getting? no. and without nintendos own high profits could they afford to get the games from
gaia
sandlot
next level games
taito
treasure
all the other devs which ive forgotten
of all the new games announced at their fall conference i dont think a single is being developed internally. obviously nintendo has more titles in the works for 2009
"The gaming enthusiast that buys a tremendous amount of games is truly insatiable," Fils-Aime says. "As an example, in March, we launched Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In April, we launched Mario Kart. In later April, we launched Wii Fit. Then, in July, at E3, they say, 'where are the games?' They say they want the next Mario game. Super Mario Galaxy isn't even a year old yet."
I've never liked Mario Kart. And Wii Fit? No. I agree with him that people asking for the next Mario, Brawl, or Metroid should shut up, those aren't even old. Zelda isn't that old. I don't need a title in any of those Nintendo franchises, I just need a good game. I'm not interested in most of the Wii games I see, this year I've really only cared about Okami, No More Heroes, and Brawl. Having one game come out every month or two isn't enough for me. When a game comes out I either buy it or rent it and if the game is only single player and linear, which most Nintendo games have been, no they are not going to hold me for months at a time. I don't care if we got Brawl, I want some other games to play in the next two months. The online for Brawl isn't that good and I can't just invite three or more friends over to play it with me every day. Why would it hold me for months at a time?
For Microsoft and Sony I don't really care if both of them never develop a game again, I have over 12 games I want on my 360/PS3 by the end of the year and already have titles I want next year, even two I want on the PS2. For the Wii and DS I'm really only looking forward to Tales 2, Disaster, and Fire Emblem DS. Two of those we don't even have a date on for next year. People other than Nintendo need to start bringing out more games. I like to have some choices between good game rentals/buys every month, I don't want to have one or two good games every three months.

hehehe... i have never been in agreement with the whole "casuals" and "hardcore" thing, its a bunch of balogna, everybody should just play games and leave it at that, the classification of people playing games based on god know what actually ( alot of casuals probably play more than alot of hardcores, so amount of time spent cant be it, the type of games cant matter because because alot of casuals play the same thing as hardcore, the only difference is "hardcores" are whiny babies lol ) needs to be eliminated. people who play games play games
alot of casuals probably play more than alot of hardcores
...No. Hardcore and core games are usually considered people thay play and buy a lot of games, systems, accessories, while casual gamers buy one every now and then or almost never. Basically casual gamers might be satisfied playing Mario Galaxyand Brawl for a year while waiting for Nintendo next game. Hardcore and core gamers will beat the game and then be wandering where the next thing is.

No actually, the definition is the amount of time spent playing games. This is the definition that researchers and casual game companies like PopCap Games use. It's the most objective and the easiest. There is no problem with these words, except of course people's confusion over what they mean, but just because people don't use words correctly doesn't mean they should be thrown out entirely. Those words help describe what's going on in the industry, the trends that arise, and the different tastes and gaming patterns and preferences of the diverse audience.
97% of all teenagers play video games. But does that mean they all play the same way and the same kinds? If you rob the language of words to describe the differences within the population, then you're destroying our descriptive capacity, and with it, our ability to understand the differences - and similarities - between gamers.

I agree with you 100% First off, Reggie calls Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros Brawl core games? Those are both "family friendly" versions of older games in the series. Neither of them were impressive because Mario Kart DS > Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Melee > Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Also, It's funny that the games he advertised as being fresh for this year use the same mechanics that have been used for over a decade now (since N64 for 3d mario, 3dmario kart and ssb). Where's the "innovation?"

ive got to say... i disagree. the "casuals" put more time into wii fit than hardcores, they played more wii sports and wii fit, they play games for longer than "hardcores" who rush to complete a game so they can complain about how fast they beat it and how they need "hardcore" games, when in all actuality, they should probably be doing other things.
I largely agree with Reggie. I distinctly remember last year when everyone was saying, "The Wii only has first-party games! There should be more third-party games!" Now that we have substantially more third-party games coming, everyone's saying, "Forget the third party games, I want the next Mario and Zelda!"
Quite frankly I'm glad that Nintendo has basically made their strategy to blatantly ignore everything their fans say.
