That would make 2 out of the last 3 Zelda games flops. There's NO way Nintendo takes that chance with a franchise already in trouble.
What do you mean!?! Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were great games.

Wind Waker didn't go over as planned. Nintendo hoped that would really open up the franchise to everyone (Mario style) and it had the exact opposite effect. Not only did it not bring in new fans to the franchise but it also ticked off the Zelda fans.
That's why TP went with the older looking Link. They needed to at least recapture the main core of Zelda fans for fear they would leave the franchise. They hoped that the Wiimote would be the thing to bring in new fans and to a point it worked because it was one of the best Wii games at launch and they held back the Gamecube release.
There's no way they gamble with Zelda again this soon.
And it wouldn't even be the first time! Remember the godawful Wand of Gamelon?
Besides, Zelda's in SSBB.

Wasn't that the DVD port, that Nintendo had nothing to do about? Also I thought Wind Waker was an awesome game! People jus hate it for the graphics, which I think were splendid. It had all the puzzles and everything. Also TP was incredible, especially if you think about it, it was intended to be a Gamecube game, same graphics and everything. It pushed the cube to the limit! If TP a gamecube made game turned out so well (won game of the year against Gears of War and others) then just think how the REAL Wii Zelda game will be!
I really wouldn't be that adverse to it. Don't get me wrong Wind Waker was an amazing game and it took guts to make it. I also like how they made the game in the unsealed timeline from Ocarina of Time. As much as I tried to become obsessed with the game Resident Evil 4 was still better then Twilight Princess. The series needs a breath of fresh air at the very least.Â
And Twilight Princess was nothing like Ocerina of Time. Maybe the sad truth is Nintendo makes you blow your load on your first Zelda game and it's all downhill from there.

To Jason Guy and the Rest of you. All that your saying is just your opinion. In no way did TP or WW flop in scores or Sales. IMO WW is a fantastic game and the complete opposite of a flop, but that's still my opinion. But no one can use an opinion to dismiss something like this. There is always a chance that it might happen even thoughnot everyonewould wantit. BTW your theory of WW is based on one demographic. WW happened to be the only reason i started to like zelda. It was the reason i tried it and made me play the others. The people that disliked it is just a portion of the sales.

Yes, the most important reason. Sales.
Wind Waker didn't go over as planned. Like I said it not only failed to bring in the new fans but it ticked off the fans of the franchise by large numbers. Nintendo failed in both areas with Wind Waker and that's a flop.
When you expect to expand your audience/sales and the exact opposite happens it's never good.
Opinion doesn't matter as much as sales, heck nothing matters as much as sales. There's no other reason games are made but sales. Nintendo thought that they were opeinging up the franchise with Wind Waker and instead they needed to do damage control for the franchise after it.
There's no way Nintendo messes with Zelda so soon after Wind Waker.

if it's not broken don't fix it...... Wind Waker was better than Twilight Princess... and don't worry people they'll think of something new for the series.... look at Mario...

Windwaker sold 4.38million units, Tp has sold 4.96million units so far...I hardly call that a flop...I personally dont see the big deal in making Zelda the main character..I'd actually like to see that..
People were pissed cos windwaker was too "kiddy" and nintendo at that point were being attacked for being to kiddy so windwaker didnt help things..Actaully if windwaker was damaging to nintendo i doubt they'd release phantom hourglass..That game is already selling like crazy in japan..A good Zelda game with Zelda as the main character wont be bad..
Its funny people complain about how games are too similar and then a company might consider bringing something new to a series they freak out. Which is it?TheLordMagnus
LOL i was thinking the same thing. Nintendo needs to take a chance with LoZ because it is dieing. Game needs some depth to it.

You think the last few Zelda games have been flops? And the franchise is in trouble?!?!?!Man, where do you get this stuff??
[QUOTE="Woolman"]I read this. ONLY gamespot finds TP a flop.
TP has outsold WV with 33% already!
Tp has had more positive feedbacks than WV did already.
Tp has an higher overall rate from gaming magazines than WV did!
Jaysonguy
Who is talking about Twilight Princess?
Why don't you clarify for us WHAT you are talking about?Certainly there have been no announcements from Nintendo who is going to "star" in the next Zelda game, but that sounds pretty farfetched. I think from the link you posted it's not even so much a rumor as an outright ridiculous post. I can see her as a playable character, but never as the main character.
Although, I never expected there to be a Mario/Sonic game either...

Instead of Zelda, I think the next game should star a gruff, manly Link. Kinda like Solid Snake in green garb.
Gore and violence would be optional.

Why don't you clarify for us WHAT you are talking about?I didn't think I had to but here goes again, just for you lol
Wind Waker was a departure from the Zelda series and flopped (meaning it didn't gain a new audience and also upset longtime fans of the franchise) so that means if a new Zelda came out that veered from the basic formula and flopped that would be two flops (Wind Waker, Zelda's title) out of the last three (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Zelda's title)
The franchise is under too much heat right now to take risks. If you follow how the series has gone so far in recent years you see how the franchise isn't as strong as it needs to be right now to take that kind of risk.
From the SNES Zelda hit it's peak on the N64 with OOT (over 7 and a half million sold) and then took a dip with Majora's Mask. It had the same sort of Zelda framework but they changed up the formula and while the fans liked the "Zelda" parts they didn't care much for the changes in the game overall and it showed in it's sales.
Still Zelda was a strong franchise when the Gamecube came out and Nintendo could gamble with making Zelda go in a different direction, in comes Wind Waker. Nintendo really tried to mix things up in different ways from Majora's Mask with the most noticeable difference being the graphics. Wind Waker was supposed to finally capitalize on Zelda's popularity at the time and hit the franchise up, instead (as I said above) it didn't bring it a new audience and ticked off the fans.
Twilight Princess stayed more to the Zelda framework then any game since OOT and you still had people complaining about the wolf parts. On the other hand the Wiimote controls while not perfect did help get Zelda into people's hands that normally wouldn't buy the game. That was also helped by it being one of the launch titles that was a sure bet to be quality.
To make the Zelda franchise take a total departure from the basic framework when fans have hated even little departures from the franchise doesn't make any sense. It's practically begging for the franchise to look poorly in everyone's eyes. Zelda hasn't just completed a run where everything it touches is golden, instead it's shown that while the main formula is there it's very hard to please the fans, bring in new fans, and move the franchise forward.
I expect the next Zelda game to have more of the Zelda that everyone expects from the franchise to satisify the franchise followers and test out a few new things in small doses. If one of the new things they test out wins people over THEN you can take the franchise on a new direction.
That was al ong explaination. Yes, I agree with what you said but I believe Nintendo has to keep the story of the next Zelda closer to OOT or WW. The story of TP is shocking. It jumped from different places too quickly and followed nothing even vaguely similar to past storys with an exception of the Master Sword and Ganon wanting to rule the world. Which is disappointing when they made alot of emphasis on that it would be in the OOT world.
Many famous icons of OOT were damaged. Lake Hylia really didnt feel like Hyrule. And Death Mountain wasn't really in this game either. You could only climb a short way up to the Goron Spas or whatever you wish to call it. Kakariko was missing its signature music and also had a major face lift turning it from a Hillside town near the mountain to a Canyon town in a gully. Which I found unsettling. Gerodos please? They just disappeared off the face of the earth... I also am aware that Ordon Ranch was the only ranch needed by just having Lon Lon for the sake of it would have felt more at home. I understand that Zelda games like to change their geography but when they clearly state "Its the Hyrule from OOT" I expected more originality.

blech.... I hope not
(actually, that would make interesting side-quests if you controlled her for certain parts of the game, but not all of it)hamstergeddon
Yeah, like how you could be Bowser and Peach in between chapters in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.

Did they ever say that exactly?
IMOI wouldlovethem toup the ante a bit and take new risks to improve the franchise. Forget making the game for the "casual gamers", we hardcore gamers of the franchise have loved this game since the very first game for the nes, but come on nintendo your really kicking the hardcore loz fans in the nuts trying to make thenoob gamers to your franchisematter (not that im flamming the noob gamers to loz).Yes I have played the LOZ games from LOZ to LOZ:TP (not the cd-i's cause idont want to wash my eyes and brain with acid to rid myself of the memories) and the3 peak games were loz, loz:alttp, and loz:OoTIMO. i liked loz:ww and i thought loz:tp was great, but if they should do anything they need to continue the story from loz:tp cause they left that game on a bit of a cliff hanger, and if they do continue the story PLEASE FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY, MAKE THIS A GAME TARGET THE HARDCORE LOZ FANS!
