[QUOTE="FLEEBS"][QUOTE="Jaysonguy"][QUOTE="Woolman"]I read this. ONLY gamespot finds TP a flop.
TP has outsold WV with 33% already!
Tp has had more positive feedbacks than WV did already.
Tp has an higher overall rate from gaming magazines than WV did!

Who is talking about Twilight Princess?
Why don't you clarify for us WHAT you are talking about?I didn't think I had to but here goes again, just for you lol
Wind Waker was a departure from the Zelda series and flopped (meaning it didn't gain a new audience and also upset longtime fans of the franchise) so that means if a new Zelda came out that veered from the basic formula and flopped that would be two flops (Wind Waker, Zelda's title) out of the last three (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Zelda's title)
The franchise is under too much heat right now to take risks. If you follow how the series has gone so far in recent years you see how the franchise isn't as strong as it needs to be right now to take that kind of risk.
From the SNES Zelda hit it's peak on the N64 with OOT (over 7 and a half million sold) and then took a dip with Majora's Mask. It had the same sort of Zelda framework but they changed up the formula and while the fans liked the "Zelda" parts they didn't care much for the changes in the game overall and it showed in it's sales.
Still Zelda was a strong franchise when the Gamecube came out and Nintendo could gamble with making Zelda go in a different direction, in comes Wind Waker. Nintendo really tried to mix things up in different ways from Majora's Mask with the most noticeable difference being the graphics. Wind Waker was supposed to finally capitalize on Zelda's popularity at the time and hit the franchise up, instead (as I said above) it didn't bring it a new audience and ticked off the fans.
Twilight Princess stayed more to the Zelda framework then any game since OOT and you still had people complaining about the wolf parts. On the other hand the Wiimote controls while not perfect did help get Zelda into people's hands that normally wouldn't buy the game. That was also helped by it being one of the launch titles that was a sure bet to be quality.
To make the Zelda franchise take a total departure from the basic framework when fans have hated even little departures from the franchise doesn't make any sense. It's practically begging for the franchise to look poorly in everyone's eyes. Zelda hasn't just completed a run where everything it touches is golden, instead it's shown that while the main formula is there it's very hard to please the fans, bring in new fans, and move the franchise forward.
I expect the next Zelda game to have more of the Zelda that everyone expects from the franchise to satisify the franchise followers and test out a few new things in small doses. If one of the new things they test out wins people over THEN you can take the franchise on a new direction.
It is something I think called phathom hourglass that is the sequel to the game that is selling like crazy in japan and that when it comes here it will sale like crazy to. And if what you were saying was remotely true nintendo would have never made a game like this again. But they have so live with it and keep your opinion to your self. And Zelda actual being the main character in one game would be great. The name of the game is the legend of zelda not the legend of link the legend of zelda. It is only a matter of time before she gets her own game and if the rumor is true then I cannot wait for this game to come.

No, not at all.
That art style works for the DS because it's not as powerful as it needs to be to pull off realistic looking graphics like Twilight Princess. So you take the over simplified graphics and to compensate you throw in as much of the core Zelda gaming as you can find. The art design is the only thing that Phantom Hourglass has in common with Wind Waker. You also have to look into who (and more importantly what age groups) owns a DS, you're not shooting for the exact same demographic.
Even the quotes about that game are trying to pull you away from making the link between Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. All you've been hearing are things like "Link is back how you remember" and "puzzles are back" everything about that game is trying to push Link being back to his roots. Both games (Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass) stress that Link is going back to his roots.
Zelda as a franchise is brittle. If there was any question before the direction of Twilight Princess told everyone for sure. It's just not strong enough to take the chance.
Maskedgamer up there made an excellent point that I agree with. Just like in some of the Mario titles they have you taking control of Peach for little side quests. That's the kind of introduction the franchise would need to test the waters. You cannot risk the entire franchise on a hunch. I mean what would have happened if Twilight Princess' gameplay was ALL wolf? Considering how many complaints we've heard from those parts of the game they would have had a flop.
While I know many don't want to hear this the bottom line is sales.
The chances that a game featuring Zelda sells well no matter what is iffy at best. It would be hard to convince all of the fans of the franchise to take the gamble that it's worth it to purchase and then you'd have to convince everyone else and considering how video games are a male dominated business that's a hard sell. Peach has the strength of the Mario franchise behind her and while her game didn't flop it wasn't one of the best sellers that year. If it was a Mario title that featured Peach it would have been a flop. Mario is too high caliber a franchise to have lukewarm sales, same goes with the Zelda. That kind of reception can't be tolerated for the Zelda franchise.
This is the way I see it. IFthey choose to do this, then they are going to do it well. I believe that the only way that this idea will work is if they use the Zelda from OOT. Ihope that (if this happens)Nintendo will do one of those seperate storyline options that you can get when you complete the game. Yes that's right, I am suggesting a Wii OOT remake, something that will DEFINATELY help the Zelda franchise. Which other game had Zelda any more badass? We can see what happened in those 7 years (montage cutscenestyle)and then play as Sheik and have fun beating Link to the temples. Think of the possibilities! Has something different and has something for the hardcoreZelda fans. If they do this any other way, then i have to say that yes, it most likely will flop.

YOU WANT ANOTHER REMAKE OF OOT? ffs just buy master quest if ur that desperate
Flashback:
God I can't believe Nintendo is letting some experienced developer make a FPS OUT OF METROID.
Change isn't always bad, keep an open mind and listen for more, it could be the best Zelda game yet.
Ok link has Always been the really the "Main Character" of each game because you play as him in every game. Why all of a sudden would they make Zelda The "Main Character" as the persony ou play as. Isn't she like a god too..She was like the Ruler of time(Lol?) And if they did make her the "Main Character" She would be too powerful.
"Main Character"
It would be cool to have her just for small portions of the game.
Also, Zelda fans suck.
*Wind Waker comes out* omfg nintendoo y is it so differnt?!1
*Twilight Princess comes out* omfg nintendoo y is it teh samez0re?1
*News on the next Zelda game comes out that indicates it might be a little bit different* omfg nintendoo y is it so different?!1
By the way, this thread is like 2 months old and the rumor was proved false.

Nintendo Europe said the game will be ALTP remake. With a good story. That would be a first wouldn't it? I am looking foward to it actually. The Zelda games need to have a good story again like the early games. Which would be awesome think about it =D
Oh yeah and Zelda did star in her own quest on the Phillips CDI the horror the horror...........
[QUOTE="TheLordMagnus"]Its funny people complain about how games are too similar and then a company might consider bringing something new to a series they freak out. Which is it?dieasgrey
LOL i was thinking the same thing. Nintendo needs to take a chance with LoZ because it is dieing. Game needs some depth to it.
I agree. I think it would be awesome to play as Zelda.Zelda as main character is almost uninteresting, and it would be just a new skin for the game. What Zelda needs is some boost in the core gameplay. Look at Mario, the same hero, the same objective, the same 120 stars, in one word, the same background. But gameplay evolved, and it's blowing every reviewer and gamer mind.
[QUOTE="lovetheblindone"][QUOTE="Jaysonguy"][QUOTE="Haziqonfire"]Wont happen.Jaysonguy
Exactly
That would make 2 out of the last 3 Zelda games flops. There's NO way Nintendo takes that chance with a franchise already in trouble.
What do you mean!?! Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were great games.
Wind Waker didn't go over as planned. Nintendo hoped that would really open up the franchise to everyone (Mario style) and it had the exact opposite effect. Not only did it not bring in new fans to the franchise but it also ticked off the Zelda fans.
That's why TP went with the older looking Link. They needed to at least recapture the main core of Zelda fans for fear they would leave the franchise. They hoped that the Wiimote would be the thing to bring in new fans and to a point it worked because it was one of the best Wii games at launch and they held back the Gamecube release.
There's no way they gamble with Zelda again this soon.
Well, TP ticked me off for not trying anything bold. I was sold to WW the second I saw the first trailer. That was the Ninty I loved, unpredictable and open minded - not just that, but the actual game was more than justsuch courage, it was also one of the best designed games of the generation, and a major step in game history.
A Legend of Zelda game starring Zelda herself? I find that highly unlikely. thebisonx
wouldnt it be called "legend of link"

I wouldn't want to play as only Zelda. Though i don't have a problem if she becomes a playable character via coop play(Zelda is to link as dom is to marcus, to use a gears reference). I would love to see a female link, or at least the option of choosing gender.
How about a zelda where we play as ganondorf? :D
I'd like to add that Twilight Princess was not only my personal favourite game to date, but i also believe it is the best zelda game.
Don't fix what isn't broken, Nintendo...funnymario
Zelda is getting kind of stale. I'd like to see a new direction. WindWaker was so much fun because it was new, but TP was more of the same. A game where Zelda rescues Link for a change might be interesting.

Why wouldn't you want to play as Zelda? As for playining as Ganan, that would be great. I don't think that TP was even close to being the best. It was a fun Gamecube game, but the game was not as good as many people think.

Agreed, but the direction they're taking is the wrong one, IMO. It would be essentially the same puzzle-solving game with a new main character.First of all, i think that Wind Waker was a better game than TP, and they are both great games.
Second, i dont think that a new game with Zelda as the main character is the solution, but they definitely need to restructure the series, like a better history, it would be great some kind of history in which Zelda have a mayor role, something like Tifa, or Sheena or Rinoa, something mayor, but not the main one. I think that is all about the history that is why Wind Waker have such a success.
Maybe a change in the gameplay too will be awesome, something a la SMG, and with a deeper history and BANG, we have again The Legend of Zelda, the gigant of Nintendo. (yeah even more than Super Mario)
I don't think making her the main character is such a good idea. But i did always want to have zelda play a bigger role since the franchise is named after her. I think they should have Zelda have much more to do with the storyline than having you save her. Maybe it won't be to bad having her the main. It's about time zelda started kicking ass instead of getting kidnapped and in trouble all the time. Thats Peach's job.big_mak123Um she does have a lot to do with it, hence you are saving her lol
You people are crazy, changing the zelda formula would be suicide for nintendo. Zelda games are always there best. Everyone thinks brawl will be the best game of all time. WRONG. Zelda '08 will be

Well, if zelda was the main character that would mean that Link is either forgotten about or he's minor(ie captured, secondary character). It's not that i don't like zelda, because i do.. its just that Link is my favourite character, evar. So, if they were going to keep us from playing as the hero, i'd like them to do something completely drastic like letting us play as gannondorf.. I definitly don't want to rescue link. If they wanted us to play as a female character, i'd rather they just go ahead and make link female.
Oh, but i'd like to add that i wouldn't mind having a spin off game that had zelda as the main character. Remember here we're talking about the main series, aren't we?
:( Too many people think zelda is stale(maybe because gamespot, and pretty much only gamespot, said it was?), yet twilight princess was the first game in the series since ocarina to go back to the series roots. All the games since then have felt rather different. Since ocarina, we've seen Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Four Swords Adventure on consoles. I was more then happy to see twilight princess taking us back to the old hyrule, using concepts that made the series famous and perfecting on them while introducing many new interesting game mechanics(horse back combat, wolf combat). Also, this game was by far the most cinematic and dramatic in its story. It felt like zelda, but it was bigger and more epic then zelda had ever been. I don't know how zelda fans cannot love this. Twilight Princess is to Ocarina of Time what Link to the Past is to the Original Zelda.
