Sorry if old.....

From cubed3.com:

A new rumour is suggesting a "double USB hard drive" storage solution is on the way for Nintendo's living room Wii.

AQJ.nettipster says the additional storage mounts on the back end of the Wii, designed to look like a natural extension (think Xbox 360's hard-drive attachment). A firmware upgrade will be required to use it, and once that's setup, content from the Wii Shop channel can be shoved across. The report also proposes 32 and 64GB models.

What's meant by "double USB" is a little uncertain, but likely requiring both USB slots to be powered, like some high-capacity USB drives and peripherals.

This is probably bs but you never know, maybe Nintendo listens after all.

Here's a picture of the back of the Wii:

Wii Backend

If you have a Unit that plugs into both the USB port and sits flush on the back of the Wii can you see the problems that would cause?

The power and TV out would have to have through ports as would the Wii-mote bar.

Then you have to somehow very the Wii as well.

Sorry but that's not gonna work is it.

You'd do better to have box that sits along side the wii, flush with it and plugs into the USB ports on the back leaving everything else free.

Sorry but this seems like a hoax to me.

Come on and get real, it can be a small little square box that can sit squarely right on those USB's and go no further. Nintendo(if this is true) they will only give 30 GB's at most, meaning small Hard drives

Taking up both of the USB slots is not a good idea. Nintendo's own product.. Wii Speak uses one of these slots.. plus there are many other add ons which use one of the USB ports. This tends me to belive it is all rumor and will not happen.

All that they need to do is let us use the SD card! How hard can it be? Save the hard drive for next gen

A 2,5 " disc only requires one USB port.
A 3,5 " disc usually has an external power source.

A HDD will probably never happen.

I agree. It's not really necessary to have a large HD drive, since it's not possible to play movies or things like that on the Wii. A few GB on a SD card would do fine if it could be used to play games.

i like how NO ONE including the source thinks it means two USB ports ON THE HDD not using TWO usb ports

most USB HDD need one USB port (that are 2.5)

so i'd guess, that though this doesn't seem likely, it would probabl have usb portss on the HDD to make up for always needing to use one

seriously nintendo make a new Wii stand that has a HDD, uses a USB cable to plug into wii's current usb ports mke it like 20GB and we're happy all of this could be under $50 being that 250GB HDD cost $100 nowadays a 20GB isn't asking that much

This could happen, and yes I know I am over a year late, big whoop. Anyway, I've already done research on this, it's actually looking more and more likely in my opinion, for those wondering what happens to the USB oriented gizmos for the Wii, like Wii speak: on a few sites, they state if this does happen, it will definitely have USB ports installed in the device taking up the only two USB ports in the back of the Wii. Happy? v.v

Why do people always bring up old posts. Obviously by now we know this wasn't true. Besides the Wii doesn't need a hard drive anymore. It already has access to 32GB SDHC cards which are faster and more reliable than hard drives.

It could just be like a normal external hard drive on the computer, you don't need 2 usb ports to put in, and even if the Wii needs more power it could have a cord to plug into a electrical outlet like some xbox 360 coolers, this isn't really needed though, we can have access to a much cheaper, more accesible solution which is SDHC cards, they go up to 32gb which is much more then the Wii will need, unless you download a bunch of Wii ware.
