If you play Gamecube games on the Wii, do you need a Gamecube memory card, or can you store the save games in the Wii memory?
Thanks

yeah, you need a GC memory card, I wonder if Nintendo could ever allow us to save GC games on the internal Wii-Memory with a firmware update. That would be awesome.Zerostatic0
I would love that, that's really the only reason I haven't picked up any GC games, b/c I don't want to have to get a memory card.

2 reasons why they can't and won't.
1-GameCube games had been programmed to use the memory card. You'll need to reprogram all the games which will destroy the 100% backwards compatibility and you'll need more time to emulate the saving feature on the flash memory. It will be like Xbox / Xbox 360 backwards compatibility problem but only for the saving. I really don't think the 3rd party and Nintendo would spend time on that.
2-The flash memory would be full every time. Remember, there's only 512 MB on the flash memory.
Deal with it. You need the memory card like you need the GC controller to play on GC games.

on point 1-thats not necessarily true. GC games are indeed programmed for memory cards and look for specific details on them. however nintendo could tell the firmware to redirect all GC memory card queries to the internal memory. there could still be problems with that if the file systems are different or something. if they were to implement a GC saves on wii memory system then they might need to partition part of the memory specifically for GC games. or they may not. however at the end of the day it could still appear as if X amount of blocks are free on a very big GC memory card to the GC game.
2- GC sames are no bigger or smaller than wii saves. there both generally tiny.Â

but yes, at the moment u need a GC memory card and controller to play GC games (the classic controler wont work with them).Â
