I assure you, it is there. Just downloaded it. Probably wait til after work to play it.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a shame that most of the sequels don't do this game justice. I only wish they released the other 2 here in the states instead of keeping it in Japan. I heard the 3rd is a real classic. After that, they really bottomed out.
I was a tad worried at first that they'd pull a Chrono Trigger and slap a $40 tag on this...but fortunately that is not the case.
Now let's bring on Earthbound :)

There was only one sequel to Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2)

I think he just means the "of Mana" games, however different they be. Some of them aren't bad, though I do admit there are quite a few (Heroes, Dawn, Children, and Sword of Mana).
Anyhow, glad to see the VC getting some awesome older RPGs. Hopefully it will get a few newer people to see the awesomeness of the SNES RPGs.
Wow. I really, honestly, didn't see this happening. My theory is that since the "of Mana" franchise isn't getting much attention these days is to remind people of the best game with the title... but I really don't care.
I thought I was excited for World of Goo, but I was wrong.
I don't understand something.
Secret of Mana can only be played with online co-op under conditions that Nintendo does not approve.
Why would third party emulators have more robust features than Nintendo's own official pay service?
If you want to find a real problem with the Wii, look no further than the Virtual Console emulators. Nintendo needs to expand the VC to allow for online play.
There's no reason why it isn't in place already. There's no good reason why third party emulators have more robust features than the official pay to play service.
If Nintendo really wants to beat piracy, they should make a real effort to match (or exceed) the competition.

You don't understand what the VC is for. The VC doesn't allow online gaming because the VC is like a NES, SNES, N64,.... Those consoles were not online at that time. That's the goal of the VC. If you want a Mana game to be online, ask Square to make it on Wiiware. As for me, I don't want my classics to be online.

The point of the VC is to play games in their original form.

Not true... Seiken Densetsu 3 is the 3rd in the series as well as here. Secret of Mana was the second game and Final Fantasy Adventure was the 1st in the series... by the way, I played Seiken Densetsu 3 on an emulator and its incredible.[QUOTE="-Oath"][QUOTE="Danger2bme"]I assure you, it is there. But yes, there are 4 games in the main series all connected in some way but only SoM ans SD3 are actually directly linked. The main series consists of Final Fantasy Adventure (Sword of Mana). Secret of Mana, Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3) and Dawn of Mana. SD3 being my favorite :)

Whatever you say.
In the end, Nintendo won't stop third party emulation and piracy until their software matches what is available (for free) on the internet. You make it sound like the Virtual Console's lack of support for netplay is a selling point and attractive feature. That's ridiculous.
[QUOTE="NamelessPlayer"](Also, I can't help but notice that there isn't a single mention of Legend of Mana in this thread until now.)-Oath
It wasn't exactly a good game... atleast IMO.
LoM caused quite a schism in how the SD saga played out. Ever since then, the consensus was that mana games should have always been about multiplayer, and story focused SE was running the series into the ground. Personally, LoM is my favorite 2D fighter, but for some to consider the game as NOT an RPG would incite some pretty raw nerd rage.
The fact that SoM is currently #4 in America should be telling SE a lot about the direction Wii owners want future square games on the system. I bet this gets as touted as Dokappon Kingdom will for RPG party action for the next few weekends.
Let me clarify my statement a bit. I am aware that technically SoM is the 2nd with the first being Final Fantasy Adventure (later being redone as Sword of Mana). I was referring to the 'Of Mana' games out there as well. I have heard that 3 is the best out there and I wish that I could play it. Who knows, maybe someday Square will translate and release it on the Wii or DS.
It's a shame that they don't make the Secret of Mana games like they used to anymore. Talk about a completely destroyed franchise. If they would have given that franchise the same TLC as Final Fantasy, Square would have made tons of money. Instead, they butchered it.
Again, sorry for the confusion. I should have clarified my statement earlier.
