i've always wanted to buy a 3ds (xl or the normal one) and now im thinking if its a good idea, mainly beacause the system has 2 years on the market and i don't know if its getting old or if i should wait until the wii u gets things right... what do you think?

Well it's definitely not getting old or irrelevant... Both the Wii U and 3DS have a pretty sweet holiday lineup.

If you want to get one now, I'd say 3DS because you'll have a ton of games + I don't see the price dropping a whole lot more.  Maybe wait a bit for Wii U to take advantage of possible price drops/bundles along with the awesome holiday lineup.

It all depends on what you want. If you want a portable gaming system, get the 3ds. If you want a home console, get the wiiU. As for the 3ds, it's highly recommended based on the gaming library. It currently has something for everyone and the game library will only get better with time. Plus there are a lot of exclusive for the system as well as hyped titles in the future (like pokemon, zelda etc). If you are willing to shell out the cash for the console and the games, I'd go with the 3ds.

The library for the 3DS has something for everyone. Two years ago I'd tell you to hang on to your cash but now the system has solidified a top notch reputation thanks to what it has to offer. The last time I had this much fun with a handheld was back when the Berlin Wall fell.

The line-up of games for it right now it fantastic, you're bound to find something you like on the system. Lots of exciting games coming out soon too. A resounding yes!

I would say the time is good to get a 3DS, especially if you're interested in both Fire Emblem: Awakening and SMTIV as you can still get $30 eShop credit by registering both games on Club Nintendo. Even if you aren't, you don't have to worry about a price drop or another remodel for a while (I doubt either will happen anytime soon). As for the Wii U, I would wait for the holiday season (unless there are great deals on where you live).

As someone who likes RPGs, the answer is a resounding YES. I'm swimming in quality JRPGs ever since I bought the system, and I don't regret the choice one bit. I would go for the XL because the extra screen size is amazing if you have bad eyes, or just want to see more on the screen at once.

As much as I love the Wii U, you'd be safer getting the 3DS because there are so many great games! Definitely get the XL :)

Like others are saying a 3DS is a better choice. And it's only going to get better over time.

I'm in the same position with the 3DS (XL)... I already have a Wii U & I like it. I understand it takes time for games to come out, so I haven't complained about it yet. As for the 3DS, I haven't bought one yet because I'm worried there will be A Link Between Worlds edition... Anyone have any input on how likely that would be?

If you enjoy rpgs, puzzle games, and platformers, then yes, I'd say it's worth it. The whole reason I wanted a 3ds was for animal crossing, but I ended up getting other games like professor layton (newest is on 3ds), virtues last reward (first game on ds is a must though), zelda oot (never played it on 64), and luigis mansion (didnt think it would be good but I was wrong). Still haven't got animal crossing new leaf, but I do look forward to it. For me 3ds was very worth it, just do research on the type of games it has and see if it matches your preferences as far as genre is concerned.

Special editions like those will always be overpriced, sometimes double the price of a regular version because it's collectible. The pokemon X/Y 3ds xl bundle sold out at amazon in about 9 hours, so u know people will be asking premium for one. If I want a unique looking 3ds, I'd just buy skins for it. Might get a pokemon/zelda front skin :P

Why?

Because you came to a 3DS forum asking if you should get a 3DS, of course we'll all say yes.

Very, very true. Didn't think about that... That's not worth the price at all, for me personally. Thank you so much for the reply! Now I don't have to wait :)

Here's my story: Years ago, I had a Nintendo DS, ended up selling it for an iPod Touch. After a while, I sold my iPod Touch and got an iPhone 4S, then iPhone 5 about 1 1/2 years later. I bought a 3DS because I missed the portable Nintendo, but didn't play it that much. Thought a 3DS XL would be better so I sold the 3DS and upgraded to the XL. Played Mario World 3D and really liked it, but thought about getting an iPad Mini, so I did, and sold my 3DS XL. Less than 2 weeks later, I got bored with my iPad Mini, so I sold it. I just couldn't justify having an iPhone 5 and an iPad. I thought about getting a 3DS XL, but I liked the portability of the 3DS, and the battery life didn't bother me as I play in short stints, and I like the form factor better. This brings us to today...I have a Cosmo 3DS coming in the mail this week. I've already purchased New Super Mario Bros. 2, and thanks to Best Buy's B2G1 pre-owned deal, I picked up Kid Icarus Uprising, Super Mario Sticker Star, and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. So, Nintendo portables will always have a special place in my heart. I will not be getting rid of the 3DS again, until the next iteration comes out at least.

I have a 3ds but i'd wait till you see a flow of games you like come out. Doesnt seem like there are many games.

I'll likely buy a Ps Vita to fill in where the 3ds may lack in games.Â
