This means that Capcom and all its IPs could be up for grabs for the highest bidder. I think it could be a great potential grab for Nintendo. Could you imagine if Platinum got their hands on DMC? Or if they had their hands on Megaman or Breath of Fire? Wii U would become the official console of the FGC with both Smash and Street Fighter. What do you think?

I just wish if they do take over, they make Capcom make Megaman Legend 3 and revive the rest of the other Megaman franchise

That would be a huge get if they did. Huge. Especially in the handheld market.

Securing the exclusivity of the Monster Hunter franchise would be an asset to say the least... assuming Nintendo is in a financially sound enough state to do so.

If any company buys Capcom, I hope it's Nintendo. That wouuld be BIG.

Nintendo would have access to EVEN MORE iconic IPs. They already have games like Monster Hunter. They might as well buy Capcom. Put some of those billions of dollars to good use.

That's if somebody actually buys them, that is.

A lot of what I've read makes it seem more likely that Capcom would sell off individual IPs, rather than be sold all at once. Have an auction, of sorts. To echo earlier sentiments, I'd love to see Nintendo purchase control of the Mega Man IP. Capcom is just squatting on that one at this point, and it's just sad that creator of the series had to quit and go to kickstarted to keep making the games, even if under a new name. The excellent treatment of the character in Smash Bros. makes me think Nintendo would do great things with the character if they could build a dedicated Mega Man game themselves.

I wonder what Nintendo would do with the Power Stone, Rival Schools, Plasma Sword, Capcom Vs, Gigawing, Heavy Metal Geomatrix (Spawn Into The Demon's Hand Clone), Strider, Breath Of Fire, Demon's Crest, Ghosts n Goblins and Darkstalkers franchises.

However I'm not sure all the details in this case so I will reserve my judgment on this.

Hey...Whether Capcom is selling their IPs, or selling their company as a whole, wouldn't Nintendo be one of the only few that could actually afford them? (Assuming the price is really high)

@pikachudude860:

No. There are many corporations with much more money than Nintendo. You're assuming a publisher would be the most likely to attempt a takeover, but few have the necessary capital. It would most likely be done by an umbrella corporation.

Capcom games seems to be popular across the world and as much as people want to crap talk Capcom at every given opportunity this would be a big win for Nintendo if they could afford it. Securing such things as the Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and more could be a huge jackpot for Nintendo but a part of me doesn't want to see these games become exclusive to just Nintendo.

If Nintendo were to acquire Capcom and their IPs, it would be a massive win for both. Nintendo's oversight could improve game quality and Nintendo themselves would benefit from having the huge catalog of IPs at their disposal. They would be pulling the rug out from underneath the competition, making previously multiplatform games Nintendo exclusive. Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Mega Man all under Nintendo's roof.

Would be pretty sweet, only to ensure that Monster Hunter stays with Nintendo. I'm not that big on Street Fighter anymore, and Resident Evil officially sucks. I believe, despite their recent suckage, that Capcom can still deliver great games. And being exclusive to Nintendo would probably not make them worse, maybe even better.

No, because Capcom's current direction doesn't align with Nintendo at all.

Capcom has moved towards mobile and their strategy has been heavily focused there. You'll likely see a company that aligns with mobile buy Capcom before you'd ever see Nintendo, or even Sony and Microsoft, making the attempt.

Well I can imagine if Nintendo buys Capcom they will have the power to change the direction to fit their needs.

@meetroid8: More corporations? You mean gaming corporations?

Last I checked, Nintendo had at least over 5 billion in cash. Assuming the price isn't to high, Nintendo would have a lot of money to fall back on.

I don't mean to sound dumb, but what do you mean by "necessary capital"?

Yes, didn't you see the link that you added?

They're losing profits, revenue, assets, and employees.

That 5 billion isn't that much because it's BEFORE operating costs. Sure, they could buy Capcom if they didn't pay their employees, didn't have to pay for any of their buildings, and all their games were made for free....

It'll be a great move for Nintendo to own both Megaman and Monster Hunter. I'd be worried about how fans would react with Street Fighter and Resident Evil as Nintendo exclusives, but it'll definitely be beneficial for Nintendo as it will force fans to buy their consoles.

HD Okami and Viewtiful Joe sequels pls.

It would be a fantastic move.

It would add a great deal of variety to the already varied franchises Nintendo has under its belt.

If Sony, MS or Nintendo turn the company into a second-party, it would be a major loss for the other two.

Yeah that's true. In the end, If it costs around 1 or 2 billion or so, I THINK Nintendo would buy them. But if it's over 3 billion (Which it could be) I don't think Nintendo would want to pay that much. And maybe they shouldn't.

Even though it's worth that much money to have access to all of those IPs, there is no guarantee that they'll make all of that money back. Especially if the Wii U doesn't turn around.

lol looks like I was onto something before it blew up. I still think it would be best for business if Nintendo does this. Even if its just to buy their IPs. Nintendo could buy Monster Hunter, Megaman, and Street Fighter and they would have tons of influence over genres with those games. Or substitute Street Fighter for Resident Evil, or DMC. Either way I think that this would be a great deal for Nintendo. Now if they can find a way to get Atlus from Sega.

It depends really. If Nintendo buying Capcom would get me a new Dino Crisis then sure, if not then, I want them bought by someone who would make me a new Dino Crisis.

That said I do think it would be worth there while to pick up Mega Man, Monster Hunter (as long as they can also acquire the team that works on them), and Ace Attorney. Possibly buy Breath of Fire too, to give them another JRPG series.

Of all the companies I would like Nintendo to buy them the most. I Just hope Microsoft EA Activision don't get their greedy hands on Capcom. Nothing good will come it of if they do. I doubt Nintendo would buy them though too much of an expense and overhead.

If Nintendo doesn't buy the rights to Megaman I think Iwafune should start a Kickstarter campaign to get his IP back from Capcom.

I think it would be in nintendos best interest to select IP's at good value, which will benfit nintendo. I think street fighter/resident evil, wouldnot be worth the high investment cost. Megaman and monster hunter would be nice,at the right price. Okami and viewful joe would be good for nintendo. I just dont want to see nintendo spend all their money on older ip's with fading popularity.

@bunchanumbers: I was going to make a post with the same question months ago but over thought it and decided not to, thought people would find it dumb for some crazy reason of mine. But yes I agree I think it would give them more mature IP's that they need and could do a better job with them than Capcom does.

I read that Microsoft bought Capcom. However, after I clicked the link, the pages seemed to be dead. Hopefully it's just somebody trolling.

I also found a link to a page where you can email Nintendo. Lots of people in Miiverse have also been asking Nintendo to buy Capcom.

If we all just keep asking (And maybe spamming) Nintendo will have to at least acknowledge our requests. It's worth a try. You all remember what Microsoft did to Rare, right?

I was hoping they took Atari before they went under but nope, they let them go. I highly doubt Nintendo will even consider getting Capcom (Though they definitely would be fools for not trying). I see Capcom more likely to be bought by Microsoft.

That's not to say I don't want Nintendo to buy Capcom as I really REALLY want them to, its just that I see Nintendo being the least likely to buy them seeing how uncompetitive they are in the markets and how much profit they have been losing lately....

Rooting for either Nintendo or Sony. I'll have to pretend that Capcom and all of their IPs went under if Microsoft buys them since they'll most likely become Microsoft only titles from then on.

@-paranorman-: Honestly, I believe if ANY of the big 3 bought Capcom, the IPs would become exclusive to their consoles.

I think the only way Capcom's IPs would stay miltiplats is if a 3rd party company bought them, like Ubisoft, Activision, EA, Etc.

That must mean that the rumor must be fake then. I hope it is. As much as Microsoft needs more IPs that people actually care about, (Besides Halo and Gears) I don't trust them with games like Megaman, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, ETC. Nintendo could really benefit from those IPs. People say that they don't have enough "mature" games anyway.

Whether they do it or not, at least it may get their attention. People on Miiverse are doing the same. It's probably a waste of time, but the end result could be well worth it.
