Let me guess, you also said things like "this HD stuff, just a fad"
"internet higher then 56k, in what lifetime would anyone need that?"
and let us not forget
"video games are just a fad, they'll go away soon"
Already been discussed more than once. Metroid controls like a first person shooter but shares little else in common with the genre. It's an action/adventure game first, a platforming game second, arguably a puzzle game third, and a shooter fourth. If the game was exactly the same as it is now but third person nobody would've called it a TPS, they'd call it an action adventure. Just like if it were first person with melee controls... little else about how you play the game and how you experience it would be different. It's like saying Mega Man is a third person shooter or Fallout 3 is a first person shooter.Metroid is a first person shooter, it's a first party game

Mega Man is (depending what game you're playing) a 2D action adventure or a 3D action adventure, Fallout 3 is a FPS RPG
The idea that Metroid isn't a FPS is wrong, you're in a FPS and you do things that all other FPS games make you do.
If the game was in third person it would be a third person action adventure since that's the genre of games like that, FPS is what we call games like the last 3 (not that awful side scrolling one) Metroid games.

FPS genre was created in 1992 but it is still been around for 20 years already.

It's not an FPS and it's not an action adventure. It's hybrid, though it does share more traits with adventure games than it does a traditional FPS.[QUOTE="elbert_b_23"]fps games are a fad that needs to die offJaysonguy

Then thats a stupid reason to want other people to miss out on what they enjoy
Peoples complaints are usually a fad. I think thats what he may have meant? IMO the complaints you have now usually go away once the console is released and have had the experience of using it. FPS are in a fad right now though definitely. I call it the COD fad lol.

[QUOTE="meetroid8"]Your logic is undeniable. norm41xIt will soon pass once (if) Nintendo introduces something new to the FPS genre. If it stays after the next gen of consoles are released then I will admit my defeat. Next episode of this conversation = Wii U release date.
If they do make a FPS game, I hope they'll innovate the genre because it really needs it.
Maybe a Metroid Prime Hunters for the Wii U, kind of like Quake 3. Metroid Prime... Arena???

That actually isn't a bad idea. It should just be priced accordingly to it's content.
[QUOTE="D4W1L4H"]I must say, I think Meetroid has some competition with the ponies now. What? D4W1L4H lost a bet, I lost all of my shame. :PI think they should include a multiplayer in Metriod.

Portal is not an FPS, it isn't about shooting anything, it's a puzzle game.Hopefully if they make an FPS it's innovative like Portal or Metroid Prime (which are both FPS. You are in a first person point of view shooting things as the main gameplay. they both just also have adventure/puzzle elements)
PSWiiU
Meetroid8 is right, Portal is a puzzle game with FPS view. FPS stands for First Person Shooter. Games in First Person that are not shooters are not FPS games, they are whichever adventure, action, puzzle, etc. games. Metroid Prime is a First Person Adventure. Adventures have shooting and jumping, good example is Tomb Raider which is a Third Person View game. Major differences guys. The camera view does not equal game genre.
I like the idea of a Mario World FPS with all the characters and then some in the Nintendo Universe. :) Sort of like a Smash Brothers but with a FPS or even third person POV. Or if not, I'd like to see nintendo come up with a flagship original FPS, like Halo is to Xbox and Killzone is to PS3. One can dream... :)

Your reply is completely inconsistent. The perspective does not determine the genre. If a game goes from third person/action adventure to first person then it is obviously a first person action/adventure game. Now, let's take a game like Halo. I think we'd all agree that it's a first person shooter. If you changed the perspective to third person, shooting would still be the core mechanic. The genre hasn't changed, just the perspective, so it's a third person shooter. Saying Metroid Prime is a first person shooter because you're in first person and you shoot things is absolutely no different than saying Metroid Fusion is a third person shooter because it's a third person perspective and you shoot things. Fusion is still obviously an action/adventure game, as perspective doesn't determine genre. Gunstar Heroes is a game which shares the same perspective as Metroid Fusion (2D, third person, sidescrolling) but it obviously isn't the same type of game. Here's shot of God of War. It's a 3D game, and I see some platforms:Nintendo could make a fun multiplayer based FPS Mii experience. Customize custumes and look. A range of whacky guns and weapons. Levels Set in some standard Nintendo franchises. I could get into that.
That would be pretty funny. I'd like to see an unlockable Mario or Luigi too in a game like thatNintendo could make a fun multiplayer based FPS Mii experience. Customize custumes and look. A range of whacky guns and weapons. Levels Set in some standard Nintendo franchises. I could get into that.

While the market is pretty much flooded with FPS games, I think Nintendo should do one for the WiiU specifically taylored to take advantage of its unique capabilities and add variety to gameplay in ways other consoles can't match.
I envision things like holding the tablet infront of the tv to act as a scope for sniping.
Another idea might be using it as a mirror to check for enemies sneaking up on you.
In the E3 trailer last year, one of the concepts was showing the controller mounted on some sort of wii zapper, like a scope. Like you said, if Nintendo can use a FPS to use its system's new features in a good way, it'd probably do really good. And if it did good, 3rd party developers would want to copy/improve upon those mechanics in their own Wiiu FPS games. It has to be fun and top quality before any of that though.I envision things like holding the tablet infront of the tv to act as a scope for sniping.
