"Dramatic angles and clumsy cantering are things of the past, traded for a third-person over-the shoulder perspective and a control set-up owing a lot to Retro's note-perfect Metroid Prime series. Walking and strafing is tethered to the nunchuck while the remote pointer – acting as your flashlight – adjusts your line of sight. Point your torch toward the edge of the screen and you can glance up, down or even turn 360-degrees. It feels perfectly natural as you explore Shattered Memories' incredibly atmospheric environments but, crucially given the intensity of the game's frenetic chase sequences, responsive too. "

The trailer and hands-on are new!....fresh off the press

The most impressive part of the hands-on is this though.....really insane!!!.....
"Perhaps most impressive of all though is Shattered Memories' much-touted psychological profiling feature. It's a cool concept on paper but even more exciting when you see it in action. Playing through the demo a few times, it's evident that profiling has the potential to revolutionise the survival horror genre as the game tailors itself around your subtlest actions to truly get under your skin. While Shattered Memories will ultimately build your psychological profile throughout its entire duration, we only had chance to see how the world shapes itself based on the game's opening questionnaire.
Probing everything from how easily you make friends to whether you've ever role-played during sex, even these early questions have a radical effect on Silent Hill's opening few sequences. State that you're fond of a drink and the game replaces the town's diner with a bar. We also noted our answers affected whether an early store location sold electrical goods or clothing – each permutation featuring unique puzzles – and if our first character encounter occurred with a cop or a waitress. Even conversations take on a different tone – from perfectly pleasant to outwardly aggressive - and answer phone messages switch from inquisitive to thoroughly menacing. It all goes a long way to ensuring your experience is relentlessly, refreshingly, unpredictable and you're never at ease with your surroundings."@kruomeli: Yea... we read about that before... but is sooooooo nice to heard that is actually working out... :)
This is the first horror game that has really caught my attention:)TaMuK711
so you can imagine how excited I am... as a horror fan this one looks great... I do not know what it would do to the SH series (which is one of fav) but so far so GREAT..
Wow, that's the first trailer in a long time to actually spark real excitement. It has all the freakiness of Silent Hill, and it even features some of the profiling stuff in the trailer that'll make it that much more awesome. This is probably the number one game on my radar right now.

yeah I as well have a special place in my heart for anything that can make me scared. Ah fire guy. I love you. but yeah as a fan oh more subtle mind destroying horror (May :D) as opposed to BOO horror (every american remake of a japanese horror film EVER, although I like this too) this looks like the greatest idea ever. period."You have to run, Daddy, you can't fight them... RUN!"
I find that so very sweet and sad that she cares more about her Daddy's safety than hers... yet that line just creeps me the **** out.
Wow the game looks good but the Voices Do not match up with the lips at all...It is almost a second apart...
What is the point of this game...? What do you do. All I see is him walking around. I didnt see any gun or anything. Is it like a puzzle horror thing??

It's a survival horror game in the truest sense of the word - your only recourse when confronted with enemies is to run. I like that, because games tend to become slightly less scary when you're armed to the teeth and can just blow things away. :P

In this version, there aren't any weapons. The point is that if you (like you personally, in real life) saw the kind of monsters that are in this game (we haven't seen them yet in trailers), you wouldn't stand and fight.... You'd run like hell. In the original, the bulk of the gameplay consisted of going to different locations and searching all the rooms for clues to find your daughter. Along the way, you figure out that the town of Silent Hill is pretty messed up, despite all the monsters running around. Most of this was contained in notes and other textual clues, but apparently the developers of the new game are making everything pretty seamless, so there won't be any videogamey popup text. Rather, the character will read it out loud or there will be an otherwise visual or audio clue.
Most of your time is spent just walking around, but it's the scariest walking around you'll ever do. The Silent Hill games are famous for having incredibly creepy atmospheres that perpetually cause the hair to stand on the back of your neck, with little to no reliance on cheap scare tactics.

Oh no a monster! Should I use my dual wielding AK47's or my Dr. Evil Moon Laser?interesting. The trailor doesn't really show anything off besides graphics, and a little bit of story. Gotta love these trailers...keep ya wanting more!
Looks cool though

 Yeaaaah, that's pretty much it.
As I understand it, the core gameplay is the same - you go around trying to figure out what the heck is going on - but the no-weapons is one of many unique twists on it. Others include stuff like psychological profiling of the player - this affects everything from what you find in the town (e.g., a diner might be a bar with a different profile) to the way in which you talk to people.
All in all, this game sounds like it has a number of pretty darn awesome ideas.

I agree. Since I first heard about it I was like "they've done absolutely everything to address every complaint I've ever had about any horror game ever made in the past. nice" being a huge horror fan I struggle to find really good horror. Like yeah I screamed some expletives rather loud when the infamous fire guy popped up but that was just an incredibly well placed startle and I was over it fairly quick. A game like this silent hill however has the potential to reach deep inside my mind and destroy it forever. The more disturbed and haunted I am by this game the higher a rating I'll give it :D Americans just don't get this type of horror. I watched the original Japanese pulse and despite the fact that I hated the movie for its massive amounts of downtime and whining about how lonely they were, the ghosts were infinitely scarier than any american horror movie BOO moment. (you can't even really see the ghosts. all you see is a very faint silhouette in the shadows but its much more haunting than anything a hollywood movie ever produced). Anyway I have had high hopes for this game since I heard of its existence and I expect great things. Day 1 buy for meWhat is the point of this game...? What do you do. Your trying to find your lost daughter in the worst city on the planet, when the world reshapes into the nightmare world the monsters come out and they chase is on. There are no rocket launchers, handcannons, or huge knifes for cutting these things down. Its suppose to be a real world regular guy who like any real world person when confronted with monsters, they don't reach for a grenade, they haul ass. It promises to be a real cerebral experience, instead of a gore fest or startle moments
I am really digging the fact that they trying to make the world so immersive and basically make you forget that you are playing a game. That is how you do horror, and I have to say again no combat was a great idea. Once you get guns and stuff, the monsters aren't tormentors they don't frighten you, they are just like any other game enemy, an obstacle to be mowed down.
^yeah our horror is all about startle moments, gore and adrenaline sequences, it gets pretty boring, I like the Japanese pyschological horror more.
Ok not that I hate On rails shooters, but I am WAY more excited for this than I ever could be for Dead Space: Exctraction and Resident Evil: Darkside Chonicles. Those are two good games but this is so much more and being that they are all in the same genre pool its worth mentioning. Though they are look completely worth it.

What makes this game so interesting to me is NO LOAD SCREENS. You can't just go through a door to make the monster stop chasing you like you could in the old games. You will have to survive on your wits alone. I think this game is going to be really intense. Especially when you consider how the Wii remote can give you a tangible connection to the game world when used properly...

don't forget you can also try and block their path so that they can't reach you....
Silent Hill always finds a way to get to me and I think this will be the scariest one.
im going to miss killing bad monsters with the guns oh wait a minute i wont be able to :(
resevl4rlz
And that's what'll make it scrarier! Look what happened with RE5.....RE4 would have probably suffered the same fate if the environment had been in daylight like RE5
