No you cannot. The DS version is much more confined in what you can and cannot do. For example, you can only create one character per file. The emphasis is much less on interaction with people and more focused on interaction with the environment with an emphasis on exploration.

It seemed pretty linear for a sim game to be honest. That being said, the system by which you develop items is interesting. The trading system is well done and the discovery system is somewhat addictive. It's a prett good game overall. I did run into one snag. There is an entryway that seems to have some trouble registering that you activate it. Overall it's enjoyable though and if you are stuck, a quick online reference to nudge you forward.
