One of the (totally legitimate) questions - Why 'Skyward Sword'? By that I don't mean why "Insert Title Here". I mean, why 'Skyward Sword'? What relevance does Skyward Sword have other than that it mirrors us back to the hook of MotionPlus controller? It is skyward? Ooo. The sword's orientation doesn't really add much especially since most often, swords either position themselves downward or upward. We know from 'Skyward Sword' that thestory will follow the novelty of the gameplay design, it will not be inspired. When it comes to story, it is ideal when the title or grand statement of a piece denotes mystery, branches out to possible subject matter, not object matter. The most extreme example is with a title like 'Majora's Mask', where coincidentally, the designers wanted to develop the world of the side characters.

You can spot the less memorable games in the series (though not necessarily less liked) this way: Zelda: Minish Cap; Zelda: Wind Waker (kinda); Zelda: Phantom Hourglass; Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

It's the name of the Master Sword before it was the Master Sword. And because Nintendo wanted the name... People have asked the same thing about every Zelda game. Another question I hear is: Why isn't it the Legend of Link? You don't play Zelda... Well, it's Nintendo's will... Nintendo is the God of Zelda. Period.

Zelda sounds better. And it's Nintendo's WILL.

The name Skyward sword is actually surprisingly good, and it fits the game. The game is going to be set in the sky, don't know if you picked that up or not. You will start in a town called Skyloft and "the enemy forces will be on the world beneath" or something, really clever. I can't wait to see how the skyworld looks like, especially with that artstyle.

The sword part is also fitting because the gameplay is going to change drastically with WM+, as the combat is going to be strategic and not action oriented, which is good because Zelda is not about action, it's about puzzle solving. It's not button mashing combat. 'Button mashing' combat would make your arm hurt after awhile aswell. When you think about it, the guys over at Nintendo are geniuses.

Judging from the demo, I think you can charge the sword when you hold it up to the sky, allowing you to swipe it and create those cool slice-blades. But it probably has something to do with the story, too.

I remember in Twilight Princess, there was a sky temple level. Also, there were those little birds with the human face, calledOoccoo in Twilight Princess. In TP it is said that Hylians are descendants of theOoccoo. The sky temple in TP had a numberOoccoo within it. Maybe Skyward Swords delves more into that backstory, since it starts off and is mainly set in a land in the sky. Just a thought.

they didn't even mention the story and people are already whining about the main point of it. yes, the skyward sword will be a huge plotpoint in the story, just like the wind waker, the majora's mask, the minish cap, the spirit tracks, the ocarina of time, the phantom hourglass... do i need to continue? WAIT UNTIL THEY START TALKING ABOUT THE STORY BEFORE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TITLE. it's not like it's bad or anything.

Pretty much. They said that Link lives on a floating island, called Sky something and he uses the sword to go from there to the land below, which I will assume is Hyrule. Not too difficult to understand.

The main reason was actually because Miyamoto thought it was epic looking when link pointed his sword at the sky.

It's called Skyward Sword for a very good reason, Link lives in a Village called "Skyloft" which is similar to the realm of the bird-like creatures called Ooccoo from Twilight Princess, there resides the Skyward Sword which for some reason Link obtains and then travels to the land below, Hyrule, in the course of the game the Skyward Sword is forged into the Master Sword, and is placed in the Temple of Time, to await the events of Ocarina of Time, It doesn't really have anything to do with Wii MotionPlus.

Now that I think of it, he said it looked epic when Link was on his horse in TP. Miyamoto wanted it in TP really bad, but I guess it didn't work out well. Since it worked in SS Miyamoto had to make it apart of gameplay, and even make it the title of the game...wait...does this confirm Epona

Its the name of the master sword before it became the master sword. It originated from the sky which is also where hylians came from which is why link starts out there. You point the sword in the sky, and it gets power which even gives more meaning to the sword, and the idea of hyrule and the sword originatinating from the clouds.

hy didn't it work out well? the horseback moments were the best parts in the game. TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO CHARGE THE RANGED ATTACK: you just have to hold it still, not necessarily skyward, like the game's title would imply.

I'm more curious to know where the heck Steve was at E3 and how she plays into the story. I still think she is the "Skyward Sword" or the Master Sword

I just hope the story isn't corny. Nintendo doesn't seem to have the best writers on their payroll

At the E3 Roundtable after the conference Miyamoto revealed the plot of the game and the identity of the Skyward Sword. Here is Miyamoto from

this article on IGN.

"How many people remember the scene where Link dives off the cliff in the trailer? That's a very important point for the storyline. This time around, Link is born and raised in a land called Sky Loft, a land floating above the clouds. It may sound unique for someone to live on a floating land, but Link finds it ordinary. A land beneath the clouds is discovered, it's ruled by evil forces, but Link is forced to go there. Link has to travel between the two lands in this adventure. The Skyward Sword is his driving force behind his traveling between lands. That mysterious figure in last year's art is the Skyward Sword. People suspected this to be the Master Sword…but spoiler alert, the Skyward Sword becomes the Master Sword. (laughs)."

We know from 'Skyward Sword' that thestory will follow the novelty of the gameplay design, it will not be inspired.Fireheart89

That's a weird conclusion.... So because the story revolves around the gameplay, that automatically makes the story uninspired? Sometimes this kind of storytelling has a much more creative end result. When you're forced to mold a story around some unique and arbitrary standard, you'll often end up with something you never would've thought of otherwise.

Which do you think might yield a better result.... a pre-written story with gameplay forced into it, or pre-determined gameplay with a story written around it?

The subtitles are fairly arbitrary aren't they? I don't care if they call it "LoZ: The Dirty Underwear". Besides, the Skyward Sword has some nice alliteration like the Wind Waker has.
