It looks like the "3DS Slide Pad Expansion" will be out in North America before February 8th:

"Capcom was coy on how it will be made available, but you will be able to use it in February.

The additional Circle Pad will be available for use in Capcom's Resident Evil: Revelations, coming out on February 7, 2012, according to Capcom's Ryan McDougall at New York Comic Con. McDougall did not say whether the second Circle Pad is coming out separately or in a bundle, but he confirmed that, if you want it, you will be able to get it." - NintendoWorldReport.com

The add-on will be out in Japan this December, just in time for Monster Hunter 3G's release. There is also a picture of a flyer going around from a Japanese retailer which shows off a Leaf Green 3DS and Expansion Pad support for Luigi's Mansion 2 (but this is only a rumor for now):

Other Games with "Slide Pad Expansion" support:

  • Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
  • Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy
  • Dynasty Warriors Versus
  • Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance

I'm actually kinda looking forward to this for better camera control in games, what about all of you?

Man, why is Nintendo releasing all these cool colors like Luigi green and Ice White? Makes black look so boring in comparison.

I think it'll be needed for LM2. LM1 used both the analog stick and c-stick didn't it? It's cool aiming with the gyroscope and all, but when it's in 3D aiming becomes a PITA. Definitely grabbing one with Revelations though. Cannot wait for that game.

Only thing I don't like about the Slide Pad is how it makes the screen off-center. Just imagining that makes it look/feel awkward.

Definitely, for me no aesthetic sacrifice is enough in exchange for better functionality. Plus the fact that it's totally optional means I don't have to carry it out of the house if I can't :)

I've said it once and i'll say it again. Having played Snake Eater at Eurogamer last month, i'm definitely not touching that game with out the 2nd slider. The controls we're a mess to say the least. It really wasn't necessary for Resident Evil though.

I am really hoping it comes bundled w/ a good game. That's what will make me buy it.

I'm still not buying this.

I haven't seen a game that I want that's actually going to benefit a lot from using it. Resident Evil: Revelations looked fine as it was and Kingdom Hearts 3D will probably control the camera like KH 358, which I'm fine with too.
