The best answer is to have a lobby for people who don't want to snake, introducing an overheating system would ruin time trials mode which would make a HUGE number of time trials fanatics VERY angry lol.

Can someone please thoroughly explain what snaking is? I have no Idea what it is.brightshadow525
Snaking is when a player uses the mini-boost in Mario Kart on the straightaways. You go back and forth across the track and it looks like a snake when it's moving, thus the term snaking. The community is split about 50-50 as to whether or not it is considered cheating or a bug in the game.

Oh thanks.Snaking is Perfectly Legit, in fact its Great!
Only Whiney losers who cant do it say to take it out and call it cheating, It in the game for a resaon!
In fact, they should Reward the player for doing it.
I look forward to PW3N all joo noob with my mega Snaking moves like i do on MKDS Everytime.

This post right here is a big reason why the people who don't like snaking feel the way they do. Players shouldn't be forced to race against a guy like this who seems, to me, to act like he's better than every other player who doesn't use the same tactics he does.

Agreed. The less articulate pro-snaker's argument goes something like this: "Oh man yousuckyou needa getbetterat MKusuckzzzz." Apparently, you see, snaking is the definitive art in all of videogames. People who think it's against the spirit of the game, or that it makes it less fun, are actually deluded. The truth is they're jealous. Even if they can do it themselves. They're probably just jealous that they can't do it better. etc. In conclusion, I hate snaking. It's not a fun way to play the game. And let's not kid ourselves that it's second only to brain surgery in terms of skill requirement. What about keeping the drift, but taking away the speed boost?I've been in favor of, in the next Mario Kart game, that the creators make "drifting zones" near the corners of a track and that you can't use a mini-boost in a straightaway. it would be very easy to program this in and then make a marker of some sort on the track to let you know you've entered the "zone" of drifting so to speak. That would keep drifting and mini-boosts in the game, but elminate snaking.
QFT Problem is, you get people that like to play "casual" and they auto-lose to snakers. So thier options are limited. Either learn to snake, or keep trying to find matches where isn't a snaker. I think Nintendo needs to introduce a lobby system. Basically, where you can go to join certain games. Like, "Just for FUN" or "Serious only."[QUOTE="jonathan_rector"][QUOTE="criscotwister"]if it takes skill to do it, then learn and master it. it adds depth to the game and more skill drifting has always been in mario kart right? or is this differentMorgario
I agree 100%. Removing snaking from Mario Kart would be like removing the advanced techniques like wave-dashing from Smash Bros.
Can you snake in MK DD for the Gamecube?
Also, exactley how is it done. so far I get that you move back and forth, but its that while holding certain buttons, please explain???

Basically, you hold the R button to begin to drift and then you push left and right on the D-pad until your sparks turn blue and then release the R button. That will give you a mini boost and then you repeat it over and over making a "snaking" motion on the straightaways...
