[QUOTE="meetroid8"] It doesn't make much sense to base quality of sales on how many it could have sold rather than what it actually sold. We would never say, it sold 5 million but it could have sold 80 million, so it sold poorly. That being said, the game hasn't sold well, it hasn't been a disaster and it has done better than some other "core" games though.meetroid8

It wouldn't make sense to say that, which is why I never said anything like that :? The bottom line is that the games sold poorly, this is magnified by the fact that the userbase is twice what the other two consoles are, yet those games sell better there. This is just fact :P

You definitely just said it again. >.>

No, I'm not saying ANYTHING about having to sell proportionately to the install base to be considered good sales. I'm saying that the sales are flat out bad regardless, its only more glaringly obvious because of the huge install base.

Bad sales are bad sales, even it only had an install base of 1million, 200k would still be just as obviously bad.

I'm afraid The Grinder is M.I.A. This is mostly because HVS have recently made some really bad games, fired a lot of people and so no one wants to work with them anymore - Publishers want safe options and developers that have consistently gotten high review scores.

High Voltage Software should make Wiiware games. Go back to the drawing board guys. Small scale, self published games with low risk. There are clearly some talented guys there, the tech is really good for the Wii, but their games are awful. They need to make tons of small scale games and get better at design and fun. In the Conduit, there was no point having great controls for crap gameplay, no point having strong graphics tech with ugly art and design. If the Grinder came out as a Wiiware/XBLA/PSN game with simple graphics, and they spent all their time making it fun, it could be great. If they release another retail game I think it'll just be another abortion like the Conduit games. Just my view!

[QUOTE="WreckEm711"][QUOTE="so_hai"] Which good games didn't sell well on the Wii?nintendofreak_2

Excitebots, Rune Factory: Frontier, No more Heroes 2, Little Kings Story, Dawn of Discovery, Madworld, Dead Space: Extraction, De Blob 2, Red Steel 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, A Boy and his Blob, the majority of multiplat games, and so far Xenoblade Chronicles. Take a stab in the dark and odds are favorable you'll hit a great game that sold poorly or far less than it should have given the user base

Xenoblade is well over 200k. Those are certainly not bad numbers.

That's crap for a top quality game. A game like that should be a million seller, easy.

Bad sales are bad sales, even it only had an install base of 1million, 200k would still be just as obviously bad.

The thing that seems to be missing here is that "bad sales" is simply a matter of expectations, which tend to be based on numerous factors. By some games' standards, to reach 200K would actually be an achievement, especially if that game wasn't heavily promoted or built on a massive budget. If we're talking about recognizable brands and games that we know have been built to be a major factor for a publisher's/developer's success, it's more likely that such a number would be a disappointment. Still, how great of a disappointment that would be would hinge on how much was riding on that game throughout its creation.

Install base is oftentimes a factor, but not important enough to be only thing to base any game's sales numbers on. Sure, some publishers/developers may try to sell games on the system with the largest userbase, but they all know that within that large frame who they're really selling the game to, and in the Wii's case, it's not always the majority. Target audience, overall budgeting, quality, and branding also have their say when it comes to determining whether a game's sales were "good," "bad," or enough to hold serve. In the case of a game like "The Grinder," it really would just like depend on how much the game cost to make and market at this point, since we're talking about a less than hotly anticipated game with basically nothing going for it at the time being in terms of hype or publicity.

If HVS haven't canned it they'll have switched engines from the Quantum3 to the Infernal engine for a U release. We'll probably hear more about it at next years E3, it won't be anywhere near the planned release date this year if they've done this.
