This is just a speculation thread on why Nintendo has yet to release a port of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo DS, or other widely popular games from the N64.

My theory is that they are waiting to release the port until later so as to prolong the life of the system. Or perhaps the DS can't do it justice, but I think it could handle it. Either way, I'd buy it if they ever released it for the DS. Portable Zelda goodness, just The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

(Note: If you know of someone else who has already posted a thread on this topic, please let me know and I will delete this thread)

When the DS first came out, Nintendo stated that Super Mario 64 DS was a one off and that they would not rely on remakes/ports to determine the success of the DS. Then when it came to planning a Zelda on the DS, it was said that the game must not only make full use of the consoles unique selling points, but also appeal to casual gaming fans. As it is, Ocarina of Time, or a similarly developed Zelda game would never meet those standards, and on top of the remake statement, I doubt you'll ever see Ocarina of Time or any other Nintendo-developed N64 titles released on the DS. Personally I think such games are ill-suited to the DS, mainly because they required the many buttons the N64 pad offered, and Nintendo will favour using stylus controls in order to influence and encourage 3rd party developers to follow suit.

I think the same, but if it happens it should come with a new game too as in the GBA ALttP version.

About another Zelda DS game, I'm sure that will come later for prolong the system's life. Myamoto already confirmed that the DS and the Wii team are working on two Zeldas games.

Sorry for my English, my primary language is Portuguese.

I myself would rather see a semi-sequel to OOT for the DS, not a remake. I've played through OOT enough. Maybe a game similar to Majora's Mask, as in it takes place after and it utilizes a new idea comparable to the masks...like...uh...collectible swords and shields that give you certain abilities...like...uh...roundhouse kicks...

Oh forget it don't listen to me...I can't think of anything cuz I'm tired.

Thanks for responding, guys.

I'd have to agree with most of you that the controls wouldn't be perfect for Ocarina of Time on DS, and also that it wouldn't appeal to all of the casual gamers. That makes sense why Nintendo wouldn't release a port.

Still, if they ever release it I will buy it ;)

a port of oot would not work on ds and for one reason only, the ds does not have enough buttons for it. think about all the buttons you needed to use on the n64 pad and the ds does not have enough to cover them all.
