I am hearing a lot of rumours about a new DS coming out this year. I just would like to say that this can not be true. Nintendo will not release another DS until 2009  unless sony comes out with a new killer psp. The reason for this is the ds has already sold a lot of units and Nintendo has absolutely no need for a new handheld right now. The DS still has two holiday seasons left in it. It wouldn't make sense release a new system right now.

Thanks, professor! I haven't heard any rumours (aside from the "hai guyz i want to buy ds lite but do u think tehyre coming with sumfink new soon?") and it's obvious there won't be a 'new handheld' from nintendo while people are still buying it. There's no need for a new handheld, so there's no demand, and no supply :D

Nintendo has been known to milk its handhelds until the utters are dry (Gameboy Micro, anyone?), but the DS lite practically just came out.  I'd give it 1-2 years before Nintendo decides to "revamp" the DS.

Yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing a DS Liter any time soon. This version of DS is selling far too well for them to make a new one.
