Waggle killed it.

When will devs learn that motion-control don't work with every genre.

I'm glad I decided on getting the 360 version. I wasn't expecting the Wii version to score that low. Oh well, Motion Plus is probably needed for a decent Star Wars game on the Wii. The review header was interesting...

"It's short and it's frustrating, but you'll still have a reasonably good time with this force-powered adventure."

Not all bad I suppose.

There were games like this on Wii that worked well

A shame but the fact is the Wii game was an afterthought.

The problem with many Wii devs is they go for motion control ...when they should be using the IR pointer.

A force powered game really should have used the pointer to aim at object and enemies and allow you to pick them up and throw them around (they should have looked at the likes of Mushroom Men/Boom Blox/Lost winds/defend your Castle and even the way you pick up Mii's in the Mii channel). Mushroom Men does force powers far better.

Action games (Ninja Gaiden, God of war) , Racers (not mario kart but Gran turismo, Burnout, GRID).

The only great action game on the Wii is No more heroes and that game barely uses motion-control and the little it use could have easily worked with a button instead.

How does motion-control make a racer simulation better?

How does motion-control make RPGs better?

How does motion.control make Fighters better? SSBB isn't using it.

Would Guitar Hero be better with motion-control? Wii music isn't really promising.

Give it a rest, motion-control is great for a lot of genres but not all of them.

The Force Unleashed was never going to be the game Wii gamers wanted, it's exactly what happened with Spiderman 3, Treyarch did the PS3/360 game and Vicarious Visions did a cheap minimal effort cash in for the PS2 and ported it to Wii.

I'd just like to see a more compotent and superior developer given a bigger budget and take a crack at a Wii Star Wars game.

The only thing tht pisses me off is the fact they used motion controls for the force powers, that was just plain dumb.
The pointer would of been the best choice, sigh and people wonder why us Wii owner complain.

Good concept, poorly executed. I read the reviews for both versions (360/Wii) and I have to say the scores for both sounded pretty generous. 6 hours of waggle gets you a 6.0?

Racers - when tilt is executed properly I'd take it over analog control anyday. Excite Truck does tilt control brilliantly, and it feels really immersive when you turn your Wiimote and see your car do exactly what you tell it to.
RPG's - I've no idea.
Fighters - Options are limited. Though Boxing on Wiisports proves that fighters have potential to some degee.
Guitar Hero - not a fan so can't comment.

IMO the devs should have looked at The Godfather for how to use Wii controls. In that game you can use the Wiimote/Nunchuck to strangle people, throw people off buildings, smash up shops and even push someone into those ovens they use to cremate people! It would've been really satisfying to force choke someone with motion control.

Yes it can work work for extreme arcade racers like Excite Truck but that's because the game doesn't require any precise controls. Games like Burnout, Grid, Gran Turismo, Forza that requires very precise controls would not work good at all. The steering isn't responsive enough.

Boxing can work to a certain limit but when it comes to games like Fight night 3 it would be far to clunky and not precise enough. Don't make me start with 2D fighter. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (Which I own myself) is on the Wii and the review clearly states that you need a Cla$$is or Gamecube controller for it to work (Which I fully agree with).

I'm not hating on the Wii-mote or it's motion-control but I just don't think every Wii game should have motion-control shoehorned into it.

At the moment, what you say is probably true. However, may Wiimotion+ will bring the precision simulator racers need. Same goes for Fight Night.. I think thats completely doable. As for traditional 2D fighters, I think motion controls are rarely needed for them anyway. I don't see how it'll make the experience better.

I don't agree with the review at all. I do have the game and the controls work very well. I knew the review was half ass when he mentioned the first person camera is activated with the down button when it's actually the up button.

The visuals could definitely have been better. I found the voice work to be very good. As for waggle, you can spend time only attacking with the lightsaber or you can mix it up as you should and will want to and not get sore or tired. My wrist only got tired after a few hours of non stop play but no different than a long session of guitar hero or rock band.

Simply put I'm having alot of fun. The worst thing I can say about the game is that it is short. If you like star wars and/or had any kind of enjoyable experience with soul calibur legends. Then you will like this game.

Overall Star Wars : TFU is a flop , this game was over hyped , it looks more a tech demo than a game for

both 360/ps3 and wii

Just because it gets a 6.0 doesn't mean it's not fun... Dunno if I'll be spending 50 bucks on it now, but I can't wait to rent it!

I bet we'll see once again how broken gamespot reviews really are.

Seems like the major complaints come in the form of glitches and the length. 6 hours is complete BS for a $49.99 game. Good thing I'm renting it.

They also complained about the camera -- I hope its not too different from the 360 demo, because to me it was fine in the 360 demo.

So pretty much this is a semi-sloppy port (glitches, looks like PS2 version) with some effort (Wii controls add a bit of fun)

Basically it was the 'after thought' version. Thats too bad, I was looking forward to it. Though, I'll see how it plays when I rent it tomorrow.

Yes, it is much lower then i thought it would be, but on the flipside Nintendo power gave it 7.5, which at least brings it up to the level of it's other versions. Personaly i will await IGN's opinions before purchasing.

I got it today too and I agree with Remblade. Here's how I see things:

The awesome: Controls work pretty much EXACTLY as Krome said they would work. You can just waggle for lightsaber combat, but your lightsaber actually does respond to your movements. However, lightsaber controls are not even half as interesting as force powers. Those are executed flawlessly. I honestly recommend you people at least rent this game, because force powers are the kind of thing every Wii owner should experience at least once, and more developers should take a look at how Krome did them. It's just brilliant, from the force push to the mini games that show up when two force powers clash. It's just tons of fun. Too bad Gamespot didn't see it... Then again, they did take points away from Fire Emblem because it didn't have any kind of Mii integration...

The good: In game graphics are actually kind of cool. The game looks way more colorful and vibrant than I expected from the videos on the Internets. I don't know whether they are PS2 graphics or not, but they sure do their job.

The mediocre: Lock on is kind of broken.

The bad: Camera is really dumb.

The ugly: Cut scenes are just horrible. Good voice acting, but they look like a PC game from 1997. There's no excuse for this. Cut scenes nowadays can look as pretty as you want them to look, regardless on what platform you are programming for. I don't understand how they ruined them, but they sure did.

Yeah GS always bashes a Wii game no matter how good.

Back on topic, at least it's a 6 and not a 5 or lower. 6's don't really count as shovelware, but don't count as firmware either. A lot of people still need to realize that games with fair scores aren't shovelware. I'm buying the game anyhow, I don't care on what anyone says.

Six does seem harsh for this game. Sometimes I think that some reviewers just care about polish, not quality.

The gamespot review is off, if you want a good idea of how the game is read the IGN review. Disregard the score and just read what they say about what works and what's bad. It's a good game but I'm a star wars fan so that may have swayed my opinion. As IGN said, it lacks polish but is fun none the less.

All versions of the game are bad

This was a simple cash in, nothing more.

360 demo was really fun -- I'm expecting the same fun on the Wii version and 360 versions when I play them -- Though TFU isn't a buy by any means.. only a rental :)

I saw this score coming, although I admit I fell into the hype of TFU. I eventually began to believe that TFU in general wouldnt do well. WHich in conjunction would mean the Wii version would fare even worse. But it seemed that it was like Jedi Academy where basically it was a lightsaber fest the entire way thorugh without much depth in "strategy." So a 6 or 7 was actually what I was predicting over all versions

That is going to happen once and a little while when a big game is going to get a low rating. But really it deosn't look that bad. I am going to get tomorrow so I can't wait.
