Super Mario 64: 150 stars?

Ive thought about this for a few minutes... In the Nintendo 64 the popular video game Super Mario 64 has 122 stars to collect( thats right there is 2 more) and the nintendo DS has 150...whats up with that? why did nintendo add another 28 stars to the game? maybe its because there is more charecters therfore more plces that you need to use a certain charecter to get to a star.
