The Gamecube had the hardware to produce some visually arresting games, complete with several amazing graphical effects that look impressive even by today's monumental standards.

Rebel Strike

F-Zero GX

Luigi's Mansion

Metroid Prime

RE4

LOZ:WW

Nintendo now believevs that graphical capabilities have reached a "saturation point", and although the Wii is stated to be 3-4x more powerful than the Cube, they have deliberately fallen out of the techincal arms race to focus on gameplay.

That being said, although the Cube games mentioned before are the cream of the crop aesthetically, I still expect Wii games to look equal to or 3-4x better than these last-gen games WITH immersive gameplay through the Wiimote controller.

I think Nintendo's gameplay>graphics arguement has been either lazily adopted by developers or just misinterpreted, because the only game that seems more aesthetically beautiful than last-generation titles is Super Mario Galaxy.

This has paved the way for developers (e.g from Ubisoft) to abuse this philosphy, and it seems that only 1st party titles are producing quality titles at the momment.

Which i think is a great shame, since it seems the Wii has in a sense demolished the 4-5 years of progression the Cube went through. In many Wii titles it seems as if the advances made during the Cube's life have just completely halted (Super Mario Strikers Charged/Batalion Wars 2/Far Cry/Splinter Cell) and present a grim future for the new console.

I am by no means a graphics whore, but i do however appreciate games with decent production value that evidently show progression through the years.

I kinda feel sorry for the topic poster, he's raising some valid points I guess, and everyone just responds with flames/nonsense.

I say that many 3rd party didn't support the GameCube. So basically, every developers that made games on the GC know how to develop Wii. Do you forget that some 3rd party companies didn't support the GC and now support Wii? These developers need the time.

Capcom's Inafume said they'll use the Resident Evil 4 engine and maybe they'll boost it at his maximum for their projects. Source: http://gonintendo.com/?p=14358

You have the proof that your logic is not right.

Yeah I do think that the developers have taken advantage of Nintendo's philosophy in order to slap together some games. It does appear that way and in that sense I do agree with the TC, that being said it is still early and most devs will start to get it together and better looking games will begin to come out. At the moment, Nintendo is the only one pumping out impressive looking games, but I don't think it's far off until that changes

As much as i love my Wii, i agree with the topic poster 100 percent. I can understand Nintendo not taking the HD route, but to completely ignore reasonable current graphics standards is a bit disappointing, and a bit of a rip off as well. I think the developers, including Nintendo themselves. were caught off guard by the success of the system, and were unprepared to develop decent software. I think. this time next year, the Wii games will start looking a whole lot better.

I believe it is a bit early to be predicting the console's future, when it's only been out since Nov of last year.  After about a year and a half, maybe.  But as of now, I see the future may very well be bright for Nintendo and the Wii.  I guess for now we'll just have to deal with what we have and wait and see.  I personally, never even saw the cube as inferior to the likes of Sony or Microsoft.  The cube put out some pretty awesome looking games in it's tenure; in my personal opinion.  But hey some people just really gotta have the best looking graphics out there. 1080p and all is over-rated.  I personally would sacrifice the graphics a little for better gameplay.

As was posted before, the devs need some time to figure out what they can do.  What better way then to make a simple game thats inviting to new gamers and old gamers alike and learn the system while making a game.  There will be some really good titles out there but you people need to learn some patience, you can't always get what you want when you want it.  Nintendo makes quality games, most the time, and I don't think that they would allow a ton of cruddy games to come out.  Thats my opinion as to why Nintendo didn't do well with 3rd party devs.  Look at the PS2, it is flooded with games as was the Xbox but how many of the games were quality.  Nintendo didn't want a library of crap.

Get over the graphics people!  They did what they did for a reason and if they cared what you graphic whores cared about they would elect you to be CEO!!  If you want it real, put down the controller and take it to the streets.
