Please read everything.

*************************************************

Today, I was talking with my friend and expressing my excitement with the new Zelda game on Wii's compatibility with WiiMotion Plus, allowing the player to swing the Wii Remote, and have Link mimic their swing, with his sword, in that precise manner.

******************

However, he then said that Twilight Princess, on Wii, did, indeed, have a similar feature, although maybe not quite as refined.

******************

From my understanding, Twilight Princess on Wii has you shake the Wii Remote, but this is no more than pressing the B button, and it does not matter the manner in which you swing it, for you use the control stick/locking on to do different slashes/combos. Good old Jeff even says this here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLGh0DqzVwI#t=192

Jeff says, pretty much, that shaking the Wii Remote is exactly like pressing B on a Gamecube controller, nothing fancy, end of discussion.

******************

However, my friend said that swinging the Wii Remote straight down will cause link to do the same, (likewise swinging horizontally will cause Link to slash horizontally, etc.) for example without touching the Nunchuck at all. (No locking on, or control stick movements) I have tried this many times, but Link simply does his horizantal slash, the basic, regular slash without using the Nunchuck, which would be found by just pressing B in the Gamecube version.

******************

VERY IMPORTANT: I am not using the official Wii Sensor Bar, I am using a third party wired one, although I'm not sure how this could change anything. I have tried doing it in pointer mode and without.

******************

Is he tricking me? I couldn't find a better way to explain it, I hope you understand what I am saying.

******************

Bottom line: Is Jeff completely correct here?

******************

Thank-You,

MrSaturn33

Yeah, just swinging your remote in any direction has no correlation to how Link does it.

No, in TP the motions and on-screen actions have no relation.

In Twilight Princess it doesn't matter how you swing. Swing the wiimote in any direction you want and Link will still do a horizontal slice. Hold the camera button, the Z button, and then swing the wii remote in any direction and Link will always do a vertical slice. While button pressing is perfected, the motion controls in the current state are not 100% at this time. Even the WiiMotion Plus is still not 100%, close but not yet.

This is right. Some games did do that, but Twilight Princess just replaced hitting a button to swing the sword with shaking the remote. I personally liked it, but I'm looking forward to the Wii Motion Plus sword fighting.

Yeah, basically the Wii controls were put into the Wii port after the game was finished, hence why they're a bit simple.

WRONG. Everyone here is WRONG.

It says explicitly in the game that a Vertical action will result in a vertical swing, a horizontal action into a Horizontal swing, and a thrusting motion to stab.

However, the game doesn't do a great job of translating this. So although swinging aimlessly will result in whatever action, you can mix it up. Just keep in mind it won't be perfect by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't want to say you're wrong, but I have tried EXACTLY what you have said to no end and it does not do anything, he just does his horizontal slash. I have tried thrusting the Wii Remote and swinging it vertically, it simply does not work at all.

Are you referring to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8dq_NQU5JE

This video starts at, and contains the end of, the sword tutorial in the game. (It starts at 0:00 and ends at 1:05) It says there that you just swing the Wii Remote, and refers to the Nunchuck for everything else. I'm sorry, but I just do not know how you can be right.

I have read the entire Instruction Manual and it does not mention anything about this either.

No, you are wrong. My copy of TP does not do a vertical swing from a vertical motion. The stabbing motion comes when you lock on and push forward on the nunchuck before you swing, if I remember correctly. So, try to get your facts right before saying people are wrong.

I have experienced that if I swing my WiiMote wildly, Link will sometimes perform a vertical slash, but that is part of his attack (so it is one attack with two horzontal and one vertical slash). Note that when I did this I only swang the WiiMote horizontally, not vertically, meaning that Link does only perform a vertical slash if the Nunchuk stick is pushed forward.

i never any complaints about the Wiimote and controls on any game. As long as ur not flailing ur arms everything, it works 99.9% of the time. LOZ-TP has great controls, and it might not be 1:1 motion, but it works fine. Have you tried Wiisports resort? Do the sword fighting and u will see (most likely) how the new LOZ will controls. it works great and is tons of fun.
