The Nintendo Wii Is The Best Console This Generation

The Nintendo Wii has been the hot topic this entire generation as to whether it deserves the praise and hype it garners. The system is a simple machine touting technology dating back over a century ago, yet it is the single hottest item to sweep the world this millennium. The pure attention the Wii gathers is why it is the best console this generation. The rest of the argument is irrelevant, because inevitability intervenes. You may be surprised by what comes next, so keep reading!

History is not always kind to its subjects for those who fight in the past. The opposite is true for those who pave a path for the future. The Nintendo Wii represents the future of gaming and the inevitability of its future of praise is coming soon. The sheer amount of hate that gamers show for the Wii will mean nothing when the Wii is finished and the next round of consoles are for sale, because the Wii is the first step to the future of gaming.

Many have mocked Wii's inability to render fully realized 3D environments realistically, but that fight is set in the past and so are the games that we play on our Xbox360s and Playstation 3s. The path we are currently taking in gaming has been taken many times and no amount of excellent software can change that.

The next big game will always be outdone when graphics and processing power rule. No game will be left special because the next title will always 1up it. This generation could very well be skipped, and gamers could easily move to the next generation when graphics have piqued and developers would have to focus on new ways to excite gamers. It is those new ways that interest the industry and this generation has seen fewer of those "new ways" than any generation before it.

This is where the Wii enters the story and tells its own chapter. Currently, the Wii has seen next-to-no titles that have used the Wii remote's technology to their benefit, yet the technology has excited the industry to extreme levels. Tell me what happens when Wii Motion Plus enters the market and the Wii truly realizes what it promised from day one. There is no doubt that Nintendo will capitalize on this, and there is no doubt that Wii Motion Plus will become a Wii standard for the next round of software.

When you combine this future hype to the current hype the system is gaining, the Wii's sales advantage will be catapulted to a level at which the competition will have little room to grow other than the niche gamers. Wii Motion Plus offers enough excitement with a system that truly has to be compelling to develop for, that software will continue to pile high for the Wii, and not just the bad software, because more gamers will support the system. It is pure inevitability. Market saturation will hit, you will see. The Wii is the future of gaming, it's just a matter of time.

All of these factors will combine and solidify the Wii's stance in the gaming world, and there will be no doubt as to what the future of gaming will be, no doubt at all. As soon as the Wii's successor is released, the old path and the Wii's path will combine, and a new path will be set: virtual reality. The future of gaming will be paved out thanks to the Wii, and History will be kind to the Wii.

The Nintendo Wii is the best console this generation because its pure amount of hype has solidified its spot forever as the console that paved the future of gaming and created some of the best and most unique software of its generation.

It is inevitable.

Charts and graphs mean very little to me...what means more to me is actually providing what was promised to consumers. What was promised was a revolutionary new way of gaming. the execution has been far from revolutionary however.

The Wii is the hottest gift this Christmas for the very same reason Tickle me Elmo was back in 95. Hype. Living up to hype however is beyond Nintendo's interests.

I do love my Wii but I'm really excited to find out what Nintendo are doing next. Imagine a Wii2 with enhanced motion sensors, a 120gb solid state drive and a graphics card capable of rendering games at 1080p natively... Launching with Super Mario Universe.manicfoot

1) This should be in system wars, not the Wii forum. You can't compare consoles here.

2) I like how you say it's the best console this gen, you mention how 3rd party support is the highest, and you state that the Wii has "some of the best and most unique software of its generation", but then you look at your sig and it says "A Change in Wii Software - Sign the Petition Today!"

I would of agreed until I got a 360. NMH, MKwii, and the obvious SSBB are the only games I bought for it this year. I could not careless about graphics and sales charts. Most of the games are dull. When it was my only console last year it almost made me feel like I was bored with gaming. I would go months without playing and there were few games that kept me playing 3 months later. I like the controller, I like the innovation, but its was barely being used.

Thankfully 09 looks better(Little Kings Story, Madworld, maybe the Conduit, motion+, and et). But you calling it the best console this gen fact is nonsense.

The Wii is easily the most overrated, and it targets families\younger kids\and softcore gamers, but it's an ok system. It might not be as fancy as a PS3 or XBOX, but it's doing just fine and there's no need for Nintendo to worry about it. I can't believe they are going to make a Wii 2 in just 3 years or something, I think that's kind of dumb. It's going to be another console to buy if you want to continue playing thier games and they also want to improve thier graphics. Since when should they care about thier graphics, imo they weren't meant to make great graphics. But who knows? It could be a great system I guess we'll have to see :)

And I'm no fanboy of anything, I own a Wii and PS2 mainly, along with a DS and older systems, hoping to get a PS3...

How would you know if they're dull if you only got 3 this year? Personally, I've bought over a dozen games this year (not including WiiWare) and they've all been great purchases.

It sounds like you need to expand your horizons.

I rent most games before I think of buying them, mostly personal taste things that interest you won't always interest me and vice versa. I am mostly speaking for myself in this post.

I'm happy Nintendo took their own path instead of producing non stop first person shooters and generic garbage. Look at the PS2. It had great platformers such as Jak and Daxter, Sly cooper, Rachet and Clank, ect. PS3 comes out with Haze :(

Good for you, though i'm not trying to turn this into a which one is better thread. Just giving my reason why there is no way in hell wii is the best console this gen IMO.

I;m sorry kansas but you can't say its the best console because of hype and sales.

The main part of a console is the games.

Then you have the other games that aren't that good. The petition is against developers making poor games. It says nothing about entirley changing all future Wii games, but calls for overall better quality in Wii games.
