[QUOTE="dirktu"][QUOTE="jfkunrendered"][QUOTE="dirktu"][QUOTE="jfkunrendered"]LOL!!!!! Did you seriosly just ask if a Wii game would be on par with Gears of War!??? I laugh...I laugh...the Wii cant even do bump mapping! COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you were just kidding!!!! It`ll probably use the Unreal Engine 2, not 3.dirktu
Well, I hope you're kidding as well here, 'cause that's just dead wrong ;). BTW, I don't own a Wii either, but I'm sure the Wii could get close to Gears of War graphics-wise, it just wouldn't run in HD (although 720p or maybe even 1080i would be possible regarding the hardware, the possible game wouldn't look nearly as good as in 480p) and would probably have smaller environments..
BTW, a lot of the graphical marvels of GOW are caused by this bump mapping...
So to end all these graphics comments: does the Wii have the same graphical capabilities as the PS3 and XBox 360?: NO
Would it be possible for the Wii be able to play games coming close to or rivaling the PS3/XBox graphics on 'normal televisions'?: YES (although this would be absolutely NOT possible when comparing them on HD sets).
Do Wii owners expect PS3/Xbox360 graphics?: NO
Question 1 is a hardware issue
Question 2 is a programming issue, because "graphics" is more than just hardware. Graphics are determined by the programming of the developer and the accessibility of the hardware...
Just look at what Rare did during the SNES era (Donkey Kong) and the N64 era and what Factor 5 did during the GC era.

So your telling me that the Wii can dish out games close to Gears? I take it you dont own a 360 or PS3? Just look at the final fight with General RAAM on and SD(thats what I use) and go play...whatever comes out this holiday for Wii....and tell me they are similar just do it! And the WII CANNOT DO BUMP MAPPING!!!!!! This is old news man. Just google it.

1) Some GC games (especially Factor 5) is a big fan) has normal mapping, which is one of the types of bump mapping. To my knowledge Mario Galaxy uses Normal Mapping as well.
2) Considering the overall 'internal hardware' picture, PS3 and XBox360 are not in the same league as the Wii, and as such it will never be comparable in the HD region. But I think the games for the Wii could look -as- awesome as well, given that that would be in 480p. A lot of effects can even be software emulated. However, due to the boundary conditions, something has to give, which is-as stated previously- the resolution in the case of the Wii, and maybe the size of the environments as well.
3) So technically, the graphics won't be the same, but they could be the same in practice. BTW, I'm not bashing Gears of War (which I indeed don't own, but I've seen and played it) as its graphics look superb, and as I said, technically the graphics of the Wii will never be the same, but the human eye and mind do not see technical graphics, they only see the actual screen..

My grammar sucks ;) ...
And BTW, I don't think we will see this this year, I just state the possibility... of a great title...somewhere...sometime..on the Wii.
Â
Ok....well let me say this...the Wii cannot do adv. bump mapping...which is a fact stated by Ubi....and I was trying to get what you are saying...but I still dont think there is any way a game the Wii can produce eye candy like the 360...and dont get me wrong, I know the wii will put some pretty stuff out there....but to say these future games will be comprable to Gears.....I mean, look at MP3, it looks just like Halo 2 to me.Â
