Very interesting. Some crazy quotes like "We're not sure how it will sell or if it will be accepted." and , "It's something that can be made because Nintendo is backing you up, but is also something that Nintendo could not make." Something that Nintendo can't make, not sure if it will be accepted? Now I really want to know that they are talking about.

"We want to make something that will be wanted even by the more hardcore game players, and something that offers new ideas."

I'm liking this, happy to see him finally return, and also we will finally be getting a new IP.

I hope people will stop whining about no new ips from Nintendo now. Even if Nintendo dont develop it directly, Sakurai is acting under funding and direction from Nintendo, which is something theyve been doing a lot recently. It really shows their commitment to offering a positive environment for third parties.

Odds are, that what is being worked on (if in development for a while) will be revealed at E3. E3 will be big, or a big disappointment. We'll see. As long as new IPs are being made from such a credible person, I'm all for it.

Hmmm. I don't really know how to take this. Nintendo considered Animal Crossing a "hardcore" game and when expecting a "big finale" at E3 we got Wii Music. Sakurai about eight years ago made Melee and then severely nerfed the game by making Brawl. And does anyone else notice how badly Sakurai wants people to know he is a freelance designer? I'm not getting my hopes until we get more news.

Why doesn't this thread have around 50 posts by now? In my opinion, this is pretty big news! If Nintendo has once again turned to Sakurai for a new project, it means that this is something the company wants to have in order to really push them forward. Granted, a lot about this game is unknown, and chances are that we won't see it until probably late 2011, at the earliest. However, if it's like everything else this guy has managed to cook up over the years (Kirby, SSB, Meteos), it's definitely going to be worth the wait.

thats more or less my thinking. nintendo likes to think if they call a game hardcore, it suddenly comes true no matter the product. im skeptic as usual, but hoping for the best.

Sounds like a brand new "core" Nintendo franchise, something Sakurai himself lamented the lack of during the development of Brawl.

Can't wait to see what comes of this.

Neither of those are dead. Kirby Superstar Ultra was released about 5 months ago and F-Zero has a last gen appearance. Nintendo hasn't made a new masterpiece-worthy IP since the N64 era (Pikmin is arguable).

goods news I guess? They must have a good idea with what their going to create here already, or why else would they already start posting positions?

They can act like they are just starting, but I bet this "new unique" idea has been in someone's mind for quite some time to say the least. (most likely Myamoto's). Remember, they approached Sakurai

This is the part that makes my cry foul. It doesn't matter to NOA what Iwata and Sora do. If the product doesn't sell, America will NEVER get it.

If Nintedo didn't care about sales or the coughcoughcough "image" of Nintendo, Atlus wouldn't have needed to publish Cubivore; Tingle RPG, Mother 3, Captain Rainbow, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Doshin the Giant, Soma Bringer, Sin & Punishment, and even Wii Chess would have been translated and sold to the mass market that hesitated to buy "better than those" games like Endless Ocean and Baiten Kaitos.

I don't buy this, because I literally will never be able to buy this. Not until the real image problem is fixed.

Sounds to me like it's either an M-rated MMO affair, or the first steps towards a new console.

I just read this a couple of minutes ago and 'm excited to see what they may come up with. I don't really have any ideas -- but considering they had some Smash Bros. experience, I'm looking forward to what they can come up with.

The bigger news out of this is that Nintendo now owns Sora, Nintendo is spending the Wii/DS profits, and it is starting to show. Expansion and hiring third party developers to make exclusive games is starting to happen more and more, something Nintendo has been hesitant to do for years.

I heard brawl was so badly nerfed because the big boys of Nintendo told Sakurai to dumb it down for the kiddies. Anyways I'm ecxited for this game because Sakurai is a good developer.

This is very interesting, I read on GoNintendo that their initial plan to release it is on 2011 (I don't have the link right now) so I guess we will have to wait at least another year to see what this project is about.

Super Star Ultra was a remake of an SNES Kirby title with addons. F-Zero has not had a new game since GP Legend on the GBA.

I'm not saying that, it's just that we need to see series like Star Fox, F-Zero, and Kirby agin before we see new ones. We've seen way too much of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

Yes. I get so tired of people complaining about how they haven't played a new mario or zelda game in about a year. They're good games, but nothing could be as overrated as these. Although I am a huge Star Fox and Kirby fan, I wouldn't mind seeing new IPs soon.
