It's old "news" but I think it bears mentioning that the VGAs are not meant to be taken seriously by legit gamers. Case in point, it's on Spike TV. A channel known for UFC, 1,000 Ways to Die and Jean-Claude Van Damme reruns. Basically, meatheads are going to watch it.
So look at the GotY list for those guys: Black Ops, Halo: Reach, God of War III, Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2. There's no denying that they're all top-tier titles, but there's also no denying that the selection of nominees was made with entertaining the core demographic of their viewers. Super Mario Galaxy 2, nor any Wii game for that matter, wasn't nominated in my opinion based on the target audience for Spike.
In fact, I'd say these guys might even make Other M Wii GotY on account of it being the most visceral of the Wii nominated titles.
That, and based on their other nominee categories (like Best Developer and a few others) it's clear that God of War III and Call of Duty Black Ops are just filler games for the main award. The three front runners are Halo: Reach, Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption based solely on the other award category nominations. It should be really obvious.
And look at the games that are to be revealed there: Mass Effect 3, Resistance 3, Batman: Arkham City and Uncharted 3. It's clear what the target audience is and unless Nintendo resorts to developing a game like that or someone pulls off a game like that in the same capacity for the Wii, I doubt we'll see many, if any, Wii games nominated for GotY on this ridiculous show. Don't forget, Madden won GotY the first year they did, that should tell you the audience they're going for.
