Castlevania DoS is hard to find, although I found a copy at my closest gamestop. Contra 4 should be anywhere, I don't know why you couldn't find it at your gamestop.

When I went to pick up DoS, all they had was Portrait of Ruin. Which isnt as good. I went back on the day they got their shipment in and they had like 5 copies. Just do that.

You could probably check best buy or circuit city, I was just at circuit city like 30 minutes ago and saw about 5 copies of Contra 4. For Castlevania I would recommend checking online, I just bought a copy of it for 13.99.

Castlevania:DoS is excellent. The weapon synthesis system makes the soul system better because you have a use for a lot of souls you wouldn't use normally. I recommend playing Aria of Sorrow first to get a basic grasp of the characters, although you can survive without playing it.

Contra 4 is a really hard game to beat.

The Castevania games are good and I suggest you buy a copy from half.ebay.com

I live in a small town and I had the exact same problem until last year when one opened up 5 mins from my house. Now I only buy from them to help keep them open and keep the money in my town.

I disagree for several reasons.

I do believe that if you only play through the story portion of either one once, DoS is a better game.

However, if your looking for content, no castlevania, or frankly any game on a handheld including Advance Wars, can give you the sheer amount of content available in PoR.

The levels are far worse, for the purpose that most of the development time wasn't spent on level design, but instead, creating the vast number of unlockable things, the item system, the WiFi system, the vastly superior boss rush modes, the play through as a side character mode(which is absolutely magnificant) and the vast number of awesome available gameplay mechanics involved with having 2 characters on the screen. Not to mention the addition of moves that were glaringly omitted from DoS, like the repeatable celing thrust punch, and the ability to wield a whip....and what whips you wield, oh yes, no other Castlevania has ever had such an amazing variety of whips that have been so fun to use, culmenating in the victory over Trevor's ghost to obtain the Vampire Killer, which is an AWESOME moment in gaming history. Even the subtle character animations are astounding.

Dawn of Sorrow might be the best traditional castlevania next to SotN, but PoR, to most hardcore Castlevania fanboys(check the gamefaqs forums) is THE castlevania of the 21st century. It's the first game to update the series in serious and amazing ways. People have put well over A THOUSAND HOURS into PoR and still not maxxed out their characters to their liking, or completed all the challenges the game has in store.

Just listening to most casual DS reviews, however, you wouldn't really know that, and just playing through the game once, you might assume DoS was the better game. The 7 hours you streach DoS to last, might be better than the first 7 hours of PoR, but the last 993 hours of PoR is where it really shines, lol.

Contra 4 is hard. I play through it and hardly get past the second level, cause I suck at it, but no matter how frustrating it is to have to start all over from the beginning after you get a game over, you still go runninninng back to it. It is hard, addicting, and a fun challenge. The only way to make it better is if it had single card play and wifi.

Runninninng? Ya... I spelled that wrong. Running. Boo Yaaaahhh!!!

I definitely recommend both Castlevania DoS and Contra 4. It's true that Contra is a hard game, but I and many others have beaten it without using a continue. For that matter, people have beaten it on hard without dieing. It's a matter of patience, reflexes, and level memorizing. If you don't want to deal with Ebay you can get it on Amazon new. Castlevania you can get from Amazon sellers, but not from Amazon themselves. and FYI Portrait of Ruin is also a great game.
