What characters didnt you know about until smash came along?

I didnt know about Ness, Samus or Roy.

I can't really say I didn't know about any of them, some of them I was introduced to for the first time from Super Smash Bros Melee.

I've known about Pit for a long time.
I still got Kid Icarus of Myth and Monsters for the Gameboy.

Never did beat that game though :roll:

Lol, ok ok ok. Out of all of them, the only ones I dont understand you not knowing is Snake. The rest of the charcters are a matter of "are you old enough to remember them" or if youve been to japan.

Personaly, I did know about Lacas and Marth (Marth through a friends import and Lucas through the GBA import).

Honestly, unless you're Japanese, I seriously doubt you knew about Marth or Roy before Melee.

I knew about Marth and Roy through Fire Emblem before I got SSBM (I wasn't old enough when it came out, but just a little before SSBM came out, I imported it).

Other than that, I pretty much played, or at least knew where every character came from in SSBB :).

EDIT : My mom had R.O.B. for her NES :).

i didn't played much video games when i was younger. when i played SSBM i found out about the rest of the characters and started playing games from the Zelda series, etc.

Captain Falcon, Marth*, Roy*, Zero-Suit Samus*, Ness, Lucas, Falco*, Mr. Game & Watch*, Shiek...I think that's it.

I never had an SNES, so I was never familiar with the F-Zero or Earthbound series until after I played Smash Bros. I had played Star Fox before, but I was only familiar with Fox, Slippy and 'young' Peppy from those games back then. I never knew of Earthbound 3's existance until a year or two ago, and thus didn't know much about Lucas. I was familiar with the 'Game & Watch Gallery' series of games for GB and GBC, and Mr. Game & Watch appeared in a picture on GameBoy Camera as well as the role of your guide in Wario Land 4, but I still didn't know who or what it was. Since I never really got to play Ocarina of Time until Master Quest edition was released for GCN, I had no inkling of who Shiek was or if it was even a boy or a girl. Zero-Suit Samus confused me because I had mistaken it for the Fusion Suit from Metroid 4: Metroid Fusion, and hadn't realized that Samus wears the Zero Suit underneath her Power Suit and its subsequent upgrades until then. I had heard of the Fire Emblem series before it reached America through people referencing the series in comparison to other RPGs in reviews, as well as pictures of FE 6 that appeared in NP before they were sure whether or not that game would reach American shores - it didn't.
