I know there's hundreds of these threads here, but this is an important question:

Will the new 2008/2009 Zelda be different from all the others? Will it lack the traditional gameplay the past 3D ones have had? Wil it be 2D (like Wario Land for the Wii)? All of these will be answered soon at E3, possibly.

Seriously, the suspense is killing me.. I hope it will be better, if not as good, as Twilight Princess. Some members said Miyamoto confirmed that TP was the last traditional Zelda game. I dislike how all the Nintendo developers and game makers/w/e always want to give change to a game. It worked for Mario Galaxy, but the big question is, will it work for the new Zelda? It better not be that different, and if it is, I just hope it's still action-adventure.

My biggest fear of the new Zelda is if it will be a casual game. I have waited a long time for a hardcore Wii game, Reggie (I forgot who) confirmed E3 will have many core wii games, let's just hope his meaning of the term is the same as we think it is.

(Forgive me if this has been asked previously/belongs in another thread. If so, please close/move thread.)

1st of all Yes I am really really really looking forard ot another Zelda announced and Nintendo's press conference.

However, 2nd of all, Nintendo game makers barely ever change a game. All Mario 3Ds aren't that different nor the Zeldas with the exception of WW's art style. A Pokemon has had no change at all. But changing a game isn't anything to fear, unless Rare is doing it.

I just hope Nintendo doesn't change the series too much, to the extent it doesn't really feel like a Zelda game. Fresh ideas while keeping the same style of gameplay is all I really want from new Zelda games, similar to what they did with Wind Waker and Majoras Mask.

I too would like that style, but not exactly like wind waker. I want it to be sort of like NMH style where there is some kind of realism to it, not completely cartoony. That way it will be the best of most worlds, and I personally think it would look great. And if they do actually involve the future into this, I will certainly be interested.

I'm hoping for a TP style, or that NMH style freek mentioned. Man, if this game does not have TP graphics, there should be an OoT remake with TP (and other updates) graphics. The original's environment seems too uneven.

Those illustrations are great, but I prefer the lower one. TP style clothing and items with OoT enemies, make it more realistic and dark. T

he monsters in OoT would be kinda scary (well not really but close) actually if they were realistic, which would be awesome. Imagine fighting the re-dead but instead of the weird awkward blocky body it has the whole dark scary zombie-ish TP look.

NO! TP style all the way. Anyway its not going to be 2D. It will have the traditional gamesplay, it just wont be the same as the other ones somehow. Maybe futuristic (youtube video), or maybe something else. Whatever Nintendo thinks up it will be amazing. And E3 holds all the answers

I do think that Nintendo will change Zelda somewhat. I don't hink that the change will be too drastic because many people know how and what to expect in a Zelda game. Some people are used to the action/adventure mode with that 3rd person view. Yet, the series needs a twist to keep things fresh and for a change. As for looks, I really liked the TP style, but Wind Waker is my second favorite Zelda. Overall, I do honestly believe that we wll don't a taste of a new Zelda. E3 is the best place to annoucne a big title for NIntendo. Also think of this, when else would they say a Zelda game in the remainder of the year?

But that's what Im wondering, some people said Miyamoto has confirmed that TP was the last traditional Zelda game, I don't want it to be 2D. It'd be a miracle if he was just joking.

I know this game will probably be announced E3, and WW is also one of my favorite games of all time.

I found a quote from Reggie, not sure if it has been posted before: "There's gonna be a big game for the holiday that the gamers will want. All I can tell you is what we announce during E3 is gonna be fantastic. The gamer is gonna be excited and the expanded audience is gonna be excited."

Could it be a new zelda or some other game from a franchise we love? Who knows. Time to play the waiting game...

It was Japan only, or cancelled, not sure, and was a puzzle type game, I think. I do know it was a casual game. Oh and epicpets, I cannot believe you have never played a Zelda game! It's one of the best gaming franchises ever! Try TP or OoT if a friend has it, ask him if you could borrow/buy it from him (:

I remember Miyamoto or someone else form Nintendo mentioned during a GDC that the wii would stilck to TP graphics while the DS would stick to cel shading. Now, i know nintendo sayd that TP was the last traditional Zelda. Now, if i think about it, all the changes i can think of is making Zelda more oriented by its story and ading dialogues. Also, making the game less linear would make it non-traditional. How can they make a non-linear Zelda game? perhaps by removing dungeons, but that would take away what zelda is. Now, Nintendo could just add more stuff to the gameplay, perhaps improve the sword-play(please), add more horse-battles and make them more dynamic. Nintendo could even add some epic battles that look like from a Lord of the Rings movie. However, once i think about it, the most radical change that Nintendo could do is add a completely new villain intead of Ganondorf(sorry, im tired of killing Ganon/Ganondorf in like 80% of all Zelda games) and giving Princess Zelda a whole new role. Nintendo could even go as far (please) as adding voice acting even to Link which i really would not mind but im sure other fans would. Anyways, those are my speculations and theories. However, three things that i really want in the next Zelda are: more dificulty, a completely new villain away from Ganon/dorf, and an epic fight with Dark Link.

I think that the next zelda will combine traditional gameplay with a lot of new things, I think nintendo has probably noticed that when they change a game like mario or zelda a lot it doesn't get a good opinion from gamers, take sunshine majoras mask and the wind waker as examples

Harder difficulty is a must, or atleast an option to choose which difficulty. Vaati was a new enemy but hasnt made an appearance since Minish Cap. It'd be nice to see him again in the new Zelda

EDIT: guyaboveme^^^: If the change isn't too much, like MM or WW, it'd be a perfectly great game. But Miyamoto said "traditional" and meant all those games, including MM and WW. So there would be more change than in those games. BTW plus point for your avatar. Jim Morrison rocks, I wish he was alive.

I enjoyed Twilight Princess, it was a pretty good game, just too easy and I wish it had a little more replayability. It's the only game I really enjoyed for my wii. If they go the cell shading root like wind waker, then I'm out. About it changing to a new game, well, I can only hope it'll be good

Ok, I see the hole in what I have said but flip side, did any of the changes MM made ever show in any other Zelda Title? There are two types of Zelda games, Traditional and Different. Note: Different doesnt mean spin-off, Tingle's games are spin-offs. MM is a good example of a "different" Zelda. Theres nothing bad at all with "Different" Zelda games and they often redo the entire Zelda formula and come out very interesting. They make changes in the formula and usually they turn out good. But these changes never return to any traidtional games or the series as a whole. In "Different" Zelda games they often put in some experimental mechanics but even if these mechanics are a hit they never return.

Theres nothing bad with different or experimental Zelda games and MM is my favorite game of all time. But Nintendo barely ever change the traditional formula. Miamoto has said TP was the last traditional Zelda game. I for one, am excited that Nintendo are obviously going to change the series.

Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Colosseum, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness comes to mind

despa1r_fact0r

^This is irrelevant. These are not main stream games. They are spin-offs. Its like saying Mario has never changed its formula and argueing against it with Mario Party.

These are spin-offs but you said the formula has never changed but in these games they did change the formula --- However in the main series Pokemon there was a change in the Ruby & Sapphire and that was the Pokemon abilities and natures (which change the battle strategy)

And the Mario Party isn't a spin-off of the Mario series

Who the heck said wind waker was the best zelda game? Although it is a great game i prefer both OOT and TP over wind waker... You obviously have never played TP... I hope that the next zelda does not stray to far from the dungeon crawling, big key finding, hack and slash adventure we have come to love. But change can be a good thing.

You know the more that i think about this the more I am liking the idea of change for zelda... How about a prologue to the zelda games? You start the game as link's ancestor back when the seven wise men were sealing the triforce away in LOZ link to the past? ORRR maybe a spin off like you playing as a goron or zora? All i know is that i DO NOT want a casual zelda game.

I would not like one of the most anticipated games yet to be revealed to be a spin-off. You're right, no casual Zelda game. That ancestor idea sounds kinda like a Metal Geartype of game. I always did wonder what happened BETWEEN OOT and WW.

Just like the TC said, seeing that this topic has been brought up many times, you probably ran into a similiar thread but most likely not his.

Miyamoto and the gang said that the new Zelda will NOT be like any of the Zeldas you've played before. Expect something totally brand new and revolutionary. A modern themed Zelda perhaps, with graphics like you've never seen before? I sure hope so. I love the Zelda series, but riding Epona on the fields of Hyrule is getting quite old. I'm sure, many Zelda fans want some change in the series. As many were quoted, saying that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess didnt bring anything new to the table besides the Wii-mote innovation. I totally agree.

Don't bold and make your text bigger, its annoying. Also he said WW is second only to WW, which is true by review scores.

Also TP is the worst game in the Zelda series apart from AoL (Adventure of Link). He obviously has played TP and not liked it as much as previous Zelda titles, like most.

All i know is that i DO NOT want a casual zelda game.ZzZEVOLUTIONZzZ

Once again don't bold and make your text bigger. If you want to play as a goron or zora go play MM but yes I agree, no casual Zelda game but I believe this won't be the case. As reggie said, theres a game being revealed at E3 that core gamers will love. I believe ths is most likely Zelda.

LoL gamespot gives you the option to use a word processor to bold your text and I am just not going to use it now cuz some lil kid whines about my text size.... get over it... And no that is not what he had said read his post over again... TP is longer then most zelda games and has better graphics controls weapons and storyline...

I know its an option, doesn't make it any less annoying. Also I made an error. I meant that he said WW was only second to OoT. And yes, he quite clearly says that.

If you love TP, thats ok, its a good game but your in the minority of Zelda fans. Also TP's storyline isn't better. Infact I believe its very untrue to the series, like alot of others.

I agree that OoT is better then wind waker but TP is was better then WW... All great games in my top games of all time... however i cant really see how that TP is "untrue" whatever that mean to the series... Every single zelda game is different.... The triforce is always there zelda is alwayz there? gorons check zoras check? It has most of the same weapons and a couple new ones which was refreshing... I dont really understand how anyone could have possibly complained about a game that stepped zelda up in every way possible.... comparing WW to TP is like comparing super mario galaxy to super mario sunshine... there just really is no comparison one is definately newer fresher and better then the other? And if i am part of a minority of zelda fans then that is fine... I would rather think for myself then follow a herd of mindless thoughtless sheep aye?

Some one mentioed the hylian wars. for those that don't know this is part of the Zelda history regarding a war between ganon and his army and the hylians. I think it would be good to set a game here as you could still have dungeons etc but you could have massive open-field battles against many enemies with some hylian soldiers helping you. also there could be sort-of stealth infiltration sections into ganons bases and such.

OR

3D four swords anyone?

No four swords, we have enough of those. I already mentioned what if the game was based on the events in-between OoT and WW, but the Hylian War is a good idea. I just keep posting these, but no one seems to ackknowledge them haha, I'm gonna go cut my wrists now, kthxbye

DON'T DO THAT! How many times do I have to tell people? cutting your wrists = bad idea! But seriously the hylian war sounds good. I don't know about inbetween WW and OoT, I mean they already said that Hyrule got flooded because there was no hero to save them from Ganon, so what would they make the game about? Hmm... maybe it could tell the story through the eyes of one of Hyrule's soldiers fighting against Ganon's army. The king could send him on a quest to try and awaken the legendary hero, he would fail and Hyrule would be flooded. Of course people might not like the fact that it wouldn't have Link. IDK just a thought.

EDIT: I just added a little to that idea.

Aslong as it has Link, nice gameplay, graphics like TP or better, nice music, nice story Im happy. I hope they DON'T ad voice acting. Thats gonna ruin the game! Unless they get some good voice actors.

If they add voice acting, it could work like it did in MP3 (the game) and have Link without dialogue but the rest should be able to talk. Ive always wanted to see how the characters in TP sound like with real voiceacting, not just grunts and gasps.
