You aren't going to get that much fun out of any Animal Crossing game at first.
Running around catching fish and/or bugs, digging up fossils running to Blathers to check them out, and then running all the way back to Nook's to sell it. Of course you won't think that's fun.
If you want to enjoy a game, play it. Don't look at it, play it for 5 minutes, and then say it's not fun. Especially in Animal Crossing. The first 5 minutes of your time is mainly setting up everything. And after another 10 minutes of Tom Nook's nose moving up and down, (which to me watching it makes the time go faster) you start the job.
That is when you start having fun. If you didn't make it there, of course you aren't going to think Animal Crossing is that great..
And what makes it more fun, is playing with friends. There are multiple websites with Friend Code trading systems, that allow you to meet others over Wi-Fi. Chatting among REAL people is always fun. And if it isn't, why not talk to someone else. -_-
And if you really started playing when you were around 5...I'm sure you got bored of pressing A and B and didn't have enough patience to get to the actual game. And if you missed on on AC:GC, and AC:WW, you might want to pick up AC:CF when it comes out, and instead of playing games that you're probably not old enough to play as it is, make a few friends.
