I would give Super Mario Galaxy 2 a 10 if they take out some of the challenge comets and replace them with more worlds, or more boss fights. I have always like the bosses in the Mario series, and since he made the change to 3d I don't think there have been enough. I think if they do Yoshi correctly it will definately improve its chances to get a 10.

When i read the topic title I thought: Go back in time :P. I can't define what it needs exactly but I'll try. An improved camera could help, maybe include less meaningless waggle (although the controls in SMG were a lot better than other Wii games), remove 2 player unless it's a Mario and Luigi alternating like the old school Mario (probably remove). I'd also say slightly tougher boss fights.

SMG2 needs the freshness of the first game, which is impossible.

Where is the "All of the above" option? But one of my pet peeves is to see the red star used more in levels. And of course a high difficulty with the new help system is a must. Finally, there should be more secret levels, secret paths, etc like in the old mario games.

I wish they had some adventure left in the game it seems like everything was very linear, there never was a point were I was not sure what to do.

Guns (Hell make it shoot Mushrooms/star bits/extra lives) + Tanooki Suit = Win.

Strange combo yes but one I would truly enjoy.

I voted "other" as in all of the above plus less linearity/more secrets. I also would want the levels to be as different as possible from the first game's levels.

A bit more difficulty and more power ups, but since miyamoto has confirmed it will be more difficult and that there will be no new power ups i guess there isnt much left that i would want other than new levels. And please let there be a big land stage

Amazing Yoshi Gameplay. I thought the first one was nearly perfect.

Better than the N64 one, and I loved that game. :)

Bigger levels and higher difficulty. It can still be newbie-friendly, but some harder stars for those who are very used to Mario games (like me) would be nice.

I don't understand people who say it needs to be harder. I thought Galaxy had the hardest levels of any Mario. That one purple coin challenge for example, and the blowing up the space garbage stages were also incredibly hard.

I agree. But it just takes too long to get hard. You can beat the final boss before it gets very challenging.

Well many games today have multiplayer to keep things fun and fresh and Super Mario Galaxy doesn't have that. NSMB Wii will have multiplayer that's fine, but they should do the same here too. I think they should allow a second player to play as Luigi and work together with Mario or they can play competitively to see who gets to the star first. Multiplayer will increase the game's replayability and that's the way it should go.

If they do any kind of multiplayer the only thing that would really work is turn-taking like the S/NES Mario games used to do. And I'd be fine with that, but I certainly don't count on it.

If SMG2 wants to score a perfect 10 it has to emphasize the freshest and possibly most gameplay changingest thing it has going for it: Yoshi. Some more interesting and neat tricks with the gravity would also be welcome as would some fun secret levels, kind of like the star road in Super Mario World.

Well, the level designs were amazing IMO. Perhaps they could make more mini-bosses and increase the difficulty slightly, but still make it enjoyable. SMG2 has to change it's formula somehow in order to get a perfect 10, otherwise it will be marked down for being the same as the original.

Well, I think it really needs to just have a bunch of minor modifications in place. Mario's ethnicity has been Italian for too long - I think it'd be a nice change if he were reimagined as Eastern European, or something like that. And the whole "cartoon galaxy" thing is really kinda overdone; it'd be much more believable if he were placed in a well-known American city, say. The storyline in which he saves the princess is getting pretty tired, too. Mario needs more depth to his character - perhaps he's trying to find something from his past, something that he can't let go. And it really needs a more modern, realistic take on it, too - rather than pipes and Koopas and all that, why not cars, and gangs? Maybe you could make Mario a war veteran too, someone who's trying to escape sorded deeds he did in a new country. And while we're at it - the name "Mario" doesn't work too well either, given the new take on his character. Maybe something like "Niko" would work better.

I think we're well on the path to AAAA material here.

Bigger levels.

Ah yes, that too is a must. There where very few traditional levels, like the ice part of the freeze-flame galaxy. When it's just a succession of small worlds with one way in and one way out, it feels much to linear.

How about this: Call of Duty: Mushroom Kingdom?

Guns include mushroom shooters, fireball launchers, koopa shell blasters, and many, many more. Power-ups include kamikaze, goomba grendade, and feather firer. Unlock many new characters, and take the Mario World destruction online, with many stages, such as Peach's Castle, Bowser's Castle, and the unlockable Luigi's Mansion.

Personally I didn't like the halving to traverse sheres for most of Galaxy 1. I didn't like it because to me it is difficult and annoying to maneuver. So if great gameplay with Yoshi happens and there's larger areas to travel through, with less sphere traversing, I'll be set.

Boot suit! :o Aw, was SMB3 the only game to have that? The Boot was awesome. I remember using my Tanooki suit and being in the boot. Tanooki Boot. It was great. But yeah, instead of new power-ups, let's see some old favorites return. I wanna see the Wing Mario or Metal Mario from SM64 come back, or maybe the Hammer Suit or Tanooki Suit from SMB3.

True co-op. Have Mario and Luigi work together to complete objectives. Have the story that both Peach and Daisy get kidnapped, Roselina gets taken hostage by the Koopalings, and Bowser wants to make his own Galaxy using Roselina's power, with either Peach or Daisy being the new "Roselina" of the Galaxy. Powerups for coop include a rubberband type thing where one person gets flung, and using momentum, the other goes forward, and so on. How about something to decrease/increase gravity? A switch on levels? Suits for both Mario and Luigi so when you shake the Wiiremote, either has the power to increase/decrease gravity? Miyamoto really was serious when he said he has a ton of ideas. I just thought of that in 5 minutes. Imagine 1 year!

I agree with the camera/higher difficulty/more bosses.

The camera really did bug me sometimes throughout the game.

It is way too easy to beat the game as far as beating the final boss. Sure there were a few really difficult moments in the first one, but they came way after Bowser was defeated.

It would be nic if they took out a lot of the repetition in the gameplay and replaced it with cool new boss battles. I really liked the boss battles in the first one, but they were few and far in between.

For Gamespot to give it a 10, it would have to have guns, sex, drugs, strong language, and be on the Xbox 360.

The difficulty level is the only reason I would give SMG a 9/10. It was still a great game, but not as satisfying as it could have been with more epic boss fights and more challenging levels. I almost crapped my pants with joy when I heard Reggie say that SMG2 will have "a more difficult edge for seasoned Mario fans". I like what I have seen so far with the inclusion of Yoshi and the new drill power up. I have no doubt that this will be a 9.5 at least in my book.

well, they can make it challenging but not frustrating at the same time. I'm currently playing SMW on VC and that game has almost made me snap my classic controller in frustration. I think the health system in the 3D Marios is a lot less frustrating than say the 2D ones where with mini mario running into an enemy will kill you, In the 3D ones, a hit will just take away a piece of your health.

Well the only thing you can really do to make a platformer more challenging is punish with cheap death and thats not fun, it works in something like Megaman because that was part of its charm because the game has sort of a puzzle element to it, but that doesn't hold true for Mario. I don't know if people really find that more fun or if they think they got thier money's worth by spending an extra 2hrs of game time staring at a game over screen? I'm sure people found those 1 hit kill comet missions to be more annoying than fun so why would you want the entire game like that.

A combination of amazing yoshi gameplay, more open levels and harder difficulty ensures a 10, which they seem to be incorporating into the next game. If Galaxy 2 doesnt at least score a 9.5 at GS and IGN I will take apart my Wii and eat the CPU.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3
SoulCalibur DC
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 PS2
Chrono Cross PS
Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 /X360 It would appear it has to be on a Sony Console actually... going by strict percentages...

The first Galaxy is a 9.8 for me (I don't have a review yet). So I'm guessing (from what I've seen)SMG2 will most likely receive a score of 10.
