What exactly EV training is???

I can't understand what exactly is the EV training. I play pokemon games since 2001 and is the first time i hear smthing like that.

P.S. I'm new in Generation IV

im not to 100% with it because i have only trained 1 ev pokemon basicly when you kill a pokemon eg:geodude you get exp and 1 def ev point (go to serebii's pokdex and look at pokemon at the bottom of the page there should be ev value)geodudes ev value is 1 def point so if you kill 100 geodudes you get 100 ev points and with and then buy 10 iron to get 10 ev's and thats example how you train a super fast snorlax or a really really super powerful umbreon

and only go around killing geodudes if you want a pokemon to focos on its deffence

well, if you wanted to raise a pokemon in certain stats, such as defense or special attack, you would battle a pokemon that gives you extra points for that stat. It's not easy and it isn't easy to learn. I only reccomend it if you want to become a competitive player.

its pretty much stat points that you receive for defeating pokemon.

the limit for effort points is 510 tho
