There is gameplay and there is game mechanics.

Basic gameplay defines what a game is, while game mechanics determine what the entire game consists of.

However, from a programming or overall design perspective, basic gameplay can be deconstructed further to reveal constituent game mechanics. For example, the basic gameplay of fighting game can be deconstructed to attack and defense, or punch, kick, block, dodge and throw which can be further deconstructed to strong/weak punch/kick. For this reason, game mechanics is more of an engineering concept while gameplay is more of a design concept.

Good luck making a design conept or game mechanics without physics or ai or even graphics

You could make a text adventure, that doesn't require physics, AI or graphics.

Welcome to table-top RPGs

Well I could pay the extra. I'm a Nintendo fanboy and will forever be, the graphics does not make a game/console good! Why does this seem to be such an important thing for many people? I admit the Wii's online is garbage (for the most part) but I gotta say that they are heading in the right direction atleast since Mario Kart Wii's online is awesome and Tatsunoko vs Capcom's online ain't that bad. The Wii may not be as powerfull as the 360, PS3 in terms of hardware, etc. But it's not even close to a bad console.. There are so much good games for it! :) And yeah even tho that the Wii does not have HD graphs I still think that Galaxy, Sonic Colors, Other M etc has amazing graphics! It does not have to be this dark and boring Gears of War graphs.. Just my opinions thought.

I voted "don't care either way". It would be nice to have it but.. I think the Wii is fine the way it is. graphics don't mean **** to me anyways.

[QUOTE="locopatho"] Well pardon me for assuming people would be talking about VIDEO GAMES on a VIDEO GAMES website. When TEH GRAPHIX were not as good and TEH MANUAL was importent, guess what? Games still had AI and physics, even 1985 Mario running and 1980 Pacman ghost enemies are obvious examples.LordQuorthon

Ultima, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest had no physics. Hell, their recent iteration still DON'T have physics.

But if they did, it would be a apart of gameplay. Not saying physics or AI are necessary (look at Tetris), but if they are in a game, they massively effect gameplay!

I have no problem with the Wii's graphics or online capabilities. Maybe because I prefer 1-player games. (^-^) But I wouldn't mind if they upgraded the console in those respects.

graphics online nor movies make a game

its gameplay overall and replay value ,you would tihnk online adds to it but wait , ,

if they were like 360 and ps3 theyd cut splitscreen there for taking yrs of replayablity out of the game and making us pay for usless dlc ,

id rather have games thne graphics

Nintendo is all about keeping cost down. TBH if the Wii wasnt $199 new on launch and it was more, they wouldnt sell as many as they have, Nintendo understands the tough economy. 360 when launched was like $300 I think or it might of been more. The PS3 is still expensive and when it was launched I think was $400, its quite ridiculous. You have to understand very few games would look good in 720p or 1080p anyway, Zelda would look awesome in 1080p unfortunately, but few others would. hard drives on consoles matters none to me.

Yeah, I think I would pay more for a Nintendo system with those additions. Nintendo made glaring mistakes with the Wii's graphics and online features (with the exception of Virtual Console, although that could use more games, particularly for the N64).

MathMattS

They can only be considered mistakes if they produced negative results. That doesn't seem to be the case.

They would have lived off of their DS sales for a few months, but it would have made me and I'm sure a lot of other buyers happy. I wouldn't have bought it until it got near $300 though...

It would have probably appeal to more devs thus giving us more games. And it would have also gave the devs a reason NOT to port all those PS2 games to the Wii since the media and fans would have completely destroy that companies rep., not that the Wii at its current state should be any different. My main concern about that would be the cost of Wii games would go up to $60 or $70. I like gaming, but I just don't intend to pay over $50 for a game...

[QUOTE="JuarN18"]Nintendo would be dead by nowRECON64bit

Exagerrating much?

So what if Nintendo wouldn't have made as much as they would with the Wii. The games on the Wii are lack luster because of weak hardware and poor priority.

And I HIGHLY doubt it would stop the Wii from being hard to find. Motion sensor would have still been a reason it would sell nicely. And Wii-sports too....

nintendo said the Wii dropped out of the graphics race a long time ago when kinect was released. It was made to be different and for party games and the odd shooter so you pay the price for what you get. If you want a console for graphics or hard drive then the ps3 or xbox is more sutied

Don't know where he getting lack of splitscreen from, I can only think of Burnout that lost it's splitscreen? Halo, COD, Gears, Left 4 Dead, most of the Tom Clancy games, PGR, Forza, Borderlands, Resi 5, Army Of Two, Kane And Lynch, Guitar Hero, Rockband, Fifa and all those other EA sports games, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, UFC, not to mention XBLA games like Castle Crashers, Bomberman, ect! Wii is the one that loses splitscreen from it's games in my experience!
