I loooooove the classic random encounter RPGs. There really is no reason why I should like em but I do... Anyway, What do you think is the hardest RPG out there for the DS? I need to test my powers on some new games :P

I'm sure everyone's first thought is Etrian Odyssey I and II but are there any others? I love the Dragon Quest games' length but I just wish they were harder.

Any takers?

PS: I'm talking about it being hard AND satisfying. I don't know how to descirbe the feeling but... like Castlevania Order of Ecclesia on Hard Mode LvL 1 (now that was fun!)

I found Phantom Hourglass to be extremely hard. When I FINALLY finished off the very last boss and Zelda and Link returned to the ship- YESSSS! :D

And let's not talk about getting through that temple - over and over and over..............

Etrian Odyssey is definitely a really hard RPG, although it is a bunch of grinding, so it's up to you to decide if it's "hard", or just takes a whole lot of time because it's a grind fest. Dont' get me wrong, I like the game, it's just not as much skill as it is time. FF 4 was actually pretty challanging, nothing impossible, but enough to stop you from breezing through the game for sure.

i found ff 4 to be annoying and punishing, not necessarily hard which is why i never beat it. You have to go out of your way to find save points and often have to replay large segments when you die.

Really? I found that game to be insanely easy. Etrain Odyssey and Final Fnatasy III are you're best bets for tough RPG.

Final Fantas III was fairly easy compared to FFI and II (`100 floor dungeons lulz)

Etrian Odyssey is the hardest RPG I've ever played on the DS, hard yes, fun no. But if your a masochist, go right ahead

this. ff4 is hard without augments/abilities. i freaken hate how there are no hints in the game to finding the augments. thank goodness for gamefaqs.

Final Fantasy III was pretty hard, as well as Final Fantasy IV I don't know if anyone else has played it, but Dragon quest IX is hard at some parts. I imported it and started playing a few days ago. It's still fun though. Very very fun. ^__^

With Final Fantasy 4, to me the entire game was easy except for the end (might helped cus I played it on the SNES). I was able to breeze through all the bosses before the moon. All of the random creatures there require you to be like 30 levels higher than you were when you actually gained entrance to the core. THAT was a grindfest right there. Final Fantasy 3 was definately a harder one... I actually havnt finished it. I always change my mind with what jobs I want everyone to have. I suppose I should start a new game on that to get the story again.

Etrian Odyssey was hard but didn't have the story I was looking for... I'm a sucker for the one chosen hero or group of heroes thing. Call me nostalgic.

I just got Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor... I'm not fond of SRPGs like FF tactics but I'll give this one a shot!

Also, anyone here anything about Kingdom Hearts' play style or anything like that?

Final Fantasy III... The last boss is horrible. You spend three hours trying to get to her, then if you die while fighting her, you have to play those three hours all over again.

The Dark Spire, then Etrian Odyssey iI, then the original Etrian Odyssey. Most everything else on the system is pretty easy, but those three are tough as nails.

I say the Etrian Odysseys. You can't save unless you're back at the town, for crying out loud.

I have yet to finish Final Fantasy III. Its hard but not insanely hard.

Had a lot of trouble with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but its not a straight up RPG so I guess it doesn't count.

The Dark Spire is a pretty rough game. One of those super old-school, first-person dungeon crawlers. Gotta have a alot of patience with that one.

EOs are quite hard and sometimes frustrating, when you get killed accidentaly after roaming 1 hour;

SMT: Devil Survivor is a "just right" game, but some boss fights are quite hard.

FFIV is hard too, but its nothing that some grinding don't fix.

Knights in the Nightmare can be challenging at the first time, but it get easier as you get the hang of it.

But seriously try The Dark Spire. From what I know, it's a really old school RPG game.

the hardest RPG to complete is black sigil, not because of the difficulty, but the patience required to fight a random battle every 2 steps.

the hardest game gamplay-wise is probably FFIV.
