What is the perfect Ds for someone who is looking for their very first DS?

I notice that there are three main Ds out or coming out soon. So which one is the best for someone looking for the first Ds. A lot of reviews that I have read only really talk about upgrading not including people that are looking to get their first Ds.

I am talking about the DSi, DS lite, and the DSi LX.

I want to be able to connect to wifi with the Ds, so I can trade Pokemon with other people and maybe even battle people.

Which one functions the best in ur opinion? I heard that the lites buttons are less than stellar.

Second of all what are some games that you would recommend?

I plan to pick up Pokemon Heart Gold and possibly Pokemon Platinum.

If you like Pokemon, I would think the DS lite would be the obvious choice.

You can play gba games that way, and I for one quite frankly still play my gba games. DS lite has the brightest setting and is my preferred method of playing the other handheld's games.

You could get the DSi and DSi XL, but they're essentially useless. Their camera isn't that great, and while you may enjoy the DS ware, it still hasn't lived up to its potential.

Especially when there's talks of a DS 2 in a few years, a DS lite is the most bang for your buck.

I don't have many GBA games. So that is not a factor in buying a DS. If I get the Ds lite will I still be able to trade pokemon with people. I heard some where that the Ds lite can only connect to certain things. Not sure if true.

I like:

platformers

RPGS

shooters

Open world games ( like GTA)

This is kind of an impulsive buy, but some of the games on there look cool.

Lite. Especially if you're going to be playing Pokemon.

The GBA slot is very useful.

It really depends bud...

If you want to play old gba games, then the ds lite is the one you want since it's the only DS model left with a GB slot.The DSi and DSi XL are pretty much the same, except that the DSi is meant more for portability, and the XL is meant more for sitting at home and playing. Where will you be playing your DS the most? If you say on the go, then your best bet is the DSi, but if you're like me and will choose to play your DS mostly at home, then the XL is better since the screens are bigger (at the expense of the light weight and portability of the original DSi model). The perfect DS is different for everyone, since everyones situation is different. Good luck!

I see myself mostly playing a ds mostly at home. However, I think I will probably get the regular Dsi.

lol i actually agree with you. Like I said before guys, there's always going to be something better coming out sooner or later. The 3DS is probably going to be released Feb-Mar 2011, and imo at launch the systems are always horrible and usually take a while to hit their stride, not to mention the hefty price tag it's going to carry. I was literally about to pick up my phone and cancel my pre-order for the XL, but decided not to and am going to wait until the 3DS gets a good library and smaller price first. But that's just me. Also, for anyone buying a DSi/DSi XL soon, I'm sure gamestop will have some trade in deal.

DS Lite is the best value right now. It is backwards compatible = more games.
