What is the point of Luigi?

In SMG2 I know you can be him at the beginning of some levels, but why? I don't understand the point here :P. Thanks for the help guys!

I didn't notice any difference in SMG2...

But beyond that everyone needs a friend!

He jumps higher, runs faster and he slips when he walks or land from a jump.

It can really get on your nerves. I love the character tough.

To get rid of the characterless Mario, mostly. :P I swapped to Luigi every chance I could since I like Luigi so much more.

I think if you beat atleast one star in each galaxy as luigi a time trial ghost would appear.

He jump higher and is faster than Mario but he does slide alot.

As everyone has said he jumps higher, just like in Super Mario 2. It's great for the green stars that you have to jump high to get. I had trouble getting some of them with Mario, but after switching to Luigi I got them easily.

Lol thanks for the answers guys! I just beat the game and have 73 stars or so now. Gonna play it more and get all of them, but I might pop in Okami or Twilight Princess first...hmmm.

He makes Mario look way better than he actually is.
