I own both Mario Kart DS and Super Mario 64 DS and out of the two I would probably say Mario Kart is the better game.
It's one of those games where you can just jump straight into it and have some fun, no matter how many times you've played the same courses over and over again. I haven't been online with it, but I'm sure that's great too (it certainly sounds it, from what I've heard.
I also probably play MK DS a lot more than SM 64 DS, although I'm not saying that 64 DS isn't a great game, because it is.
Having never played the original on the N64, I can see why it is known as one of the greatest games of all time. It might feel a bit dated by todays standards, but in my opinion it still provides a solid gaming experience.
But yeah, out of the two i'd have to say MK DS is, in my opinion, the better game. I've never played New Super Mario Bros. so I can't pass judgement on that game.
If you're talking in terms of all Mario games (not just the DS ones) I can't really help there, as I've never really played a Mario game on a console other than the DS, although I do own the original Mario Bros. on my mobile.
