Personally and I think a lot of people think this but I am a huge smash bros fan so I think brawl will destroy Metroid3 but they are still both great games.
well metroid 3 is old and was known as super metroid :-D sry having a very obnoxious mood today. anyway personally i think mp3 will be better due to the fact that super smash bros isn't going to redefine a genre... it's set its heights to be the best in its genre but never to change anything

Online was confirmed for Brawl, but they didn't give any info about it. I want to be able to host tournements and use voice chat, but I don't think that's very likely givin Nintendo's current online games.

that would be awesome just imagine having like a 16 person tournament
i was gonna say 64 but if there were a 64 person tournament it would take so long to finish

Well the old metroids were horrible.
if by horrible you mean awsome then yes i agree. if not then you are wrong period.
having some cool metroid 3 online multiplayer would have totaly blown me away ... but now that it officialy doesn't, i don't even think i'll buy it so i do hope smash will be the one to blow me away
Obviously, my pick is Brawl because Melee was one of the best games I've played and an improvement on that can only make it better (hopefully). Although Metroid Prime 3 won't be multiplayer, it definitely wins in the story mode department. It seems like you have to think of Prime 3 as a Zelda game where Link has a gun instead of a sword and transforms into a ball instead of a wolf, and is a girl, of course, if you really want to appreciate it.
Brawl will have the online component, so it'll get more play time, but that doesn't mean it'll be the better game. I think Metroid because it's bringing something new to the table that changes the very core of the gameplay for the better, whereas with Brawl, it'll probably be Melee with new power-ups.

Hero is right, these games aren't supposed to be competitors, but that doesn't mean one can't be better than another. For their purposes, I think that they'll probably both be very good games, and each better than the other for certain people. That being said, I'm not good at Smash Bros and enjoy the Metroid world. The multiplayer game I really would like to see would be a great Bomberman.

are you kidding? you think a generic button masher like melee is better than any of the 3D zeldas, Metroid Prime games, Battalion Wars, mario games etc, etc.
You can't really compare these games because they are both different genres of games. But if you are asking which one i will end up playing more it would probably have to be SSBB. Well at first i would play MP# hours on end but i will probably play more of SSBB because it has multiplayer.
SSBB because 1. theres online and MP3 doesnt hav it 2. SSBB has tons more replay value and 3. how much more can they add to an MP game? more weapons and levels and make it longer? its still to straightforward of a game
It's not really who is better but which one is gonna be more fun and I personally think beating up kirby online is alot more fun than the innovative controls that metroid 3 has. (no offense to the kirby players out there)
mp3 destroys ssbb in the single player department, but because of ssbb's addictive multiplayer and online features, hands down ssbb (but i'm still getting both cuz they r both gonna rock). i just hope that ssbb's online play isn't laggy and plays as silky smooth as doa's online (but...u know...better!)

Perfection is not the word they will be both rated the same and they will have there share of ups and downs.
