I see tons and tons of people on these boards (including myself) begging for a DK64 sequel, or even a little love for our hairy cousin on the evolutionary chain that just so happens to wear a neck tie, but no pants. I understand that when we broke off and became our own distinct species, we most likely didn't want anything to do with old school kids, ya know...out with old, in with the new right?

Well in terms of video games, DK is just as old as Mario (aka Jumpman) and they have the same birthday to be precise. Mario for the most part, has had tons of great games over the years. Obviously, there's no comparison when it comes to popularity...and DK could be considered one of Mario's ugly friends that only makes him look better at a party. We all show love towards him, hell....we've even bought 2 games where we couldn't even play as our Sluggish Simian. So all and all...why no love for DK for the past 9 yrs Nintendo?

Is Nintendo ashamed because of their latest attempts since Rare's departure? Are DK's games not profitable even though loved by millions? What's the deal???

Let's give Nintendo some ideas on how we can bring our favorite banana loving primate back from the grave! What would you do with a DK game? How would you implement the controls? What would the game play like (2.5d vs 3d). Would you have it just like DK64 but updated tech wise?

We all whine (again, including myself) about how DK needs a game, but what would we actually want Nintendo to do?? I wanna hear what would make it so great!!!

GO!

I seriously think this would be awesome: A DK tower defense. You play as DK and defend Peach or that other girl from Mario, like the original Donkey Kong, but from the opposite perspective.

Its definitely a great idea, donkey kong was one of my favorite franchise back in those days, the last donkey kong game I play was donkey kong 64 ( awesome). The sequel should be right like that but they should add the co-op mode as in the one of the Super nintendo( donkey kong country 1,2 and 3).

It's definitely a good idea. Really, I would love to see maybe a Donkey Kong RPG (maybe a bit of a stretch), but similar to Super Mario RPG with bits of platforming, and you play as the DK characters but maybe fight opponents in a turn based combat system. Maybe it's a little bit biased since I'm in desperate need of some RPGs, but I would love to see that. :) Or at least, something to build on Jungle Beat (fabulous game, but too short! :( ) or just a sequel to Donkey Kong 64 of course; nothing much else to say regarding that. :)

no@Dk being mario's ugly friend that makes him look good at parties

DK is the party starter. he's the first guy drinking out the keg and wearing a tutu and running up and down like a mad man. mario is the friend in his shadow.

Why nintendo abandoned the DK series is beyond me. donkey kong is my favorite video game character of all time and the DK games are my favorite of all time (especially DKC2). This is the onyl franchise nintendo does not want to revive and it bugs me. It's not like Rare is holding them back so whats the big deal?

If they do make a dk for wii........just make it better than mario galaxy. thats all i ask for. and give it a story line. not a bunch of collect golden bananas to get to the final boss or unlock doors or none of that nonsense that plagues nintendos platformers

Donkey Kong Country 2 is my #3 favorite game of all time. I've been shocked that nintendo has not done anything good with the DK character since DK64. I would like nothing more than a new DK. Could you imagine if Nintendo had a new DKc, Star Fox, LOZ, and Mario games come out in the next couple of years?

I don't really care, but I think at least part of the game should be located on a construction site, just like the first game.

Maybe it could be a climbing game instead of a platforming game. Start a new genre.

Jaysonguy

agreed, that was was cool about the DKC games. The first was al about the jungle, or at least the first part... but the later games mixed it up with variety, while keeping the same basic concept of gameplay.

I'll post my idea's tomorrow while at work...it'll take some time to get it out, and I'm tired as of now. lol

The obvious place would be to put DK in DKC platformer. I don't think the controls really need to go beyond the typical control stick/d-pad w/2 buttons configuration. At least, if the game is 2D. While I think it'd be interesting to see a DK go 3D, I think it would be hard to implement standards of the series like swinging on vines and the blast barrels. Also, I'd like it to go back to it's roots of being just DK and Diddy w/optional co-op. As far as something completely off the wall, a DK and Diddy adventure game - Donkey Kong's Jungle Detective Agency. Make it so you travel the jungle looking for clues, solve puzzles, there could be a some platforming and combat. Give the characters a 1930s gumshoe look and it'd be awesome.

As a Wii Ware game this would be great, one team plays as a mario/Luigi duo and the other plays as a Donkey/Diddy Kong kind of like the beach mode in CBFD on N64 :P.

I'd want it to be the same type of game, more moves, more places to explore, more banana's. So a sequel. I would be very happy.

Donkey Kong needs a breath of fresh air. I agree with Jaysonguy and bob, DK needs to get out of the jungles and move into the city. There's all kinds of possibilities once you remove the obvious. He's not a traditional Ape, why should be be treated like one? I'd love an open world DK platformer focused on climbing, something akin to Hulk Ultimate Destruction or the Bionic Commando reboot. I wouldn't be too keen on a DK64 sequel though, the whole game was based on collecting, and it honestly bogged the game down. Nintendo needs to stop trying to strangle DK with Rare's constraints.

The monkey needs stretch his arms and breathe.
